National Bank publishes list of most profitable banks in Ukraine

State-owned PrivatBank in January 2023 received UAH 6.316 billion in net profit, Oshchadbank – UAH 2.242 billion, which amounted to 57% of all profits earned in January by 60 profitable Ukrainian banks.
According to the data published by the National Bank of Ukraine on its website, the top five leaders are also two banks with foreign capital: Raiffeisen Bank – UAH 715.8 million, Sense Bank (formerly Alfa Bank) – UAH 680.5 million and state Ukreximbank – UAH 623 million.
Three other banks with foreign capital: OTP Bank – 617.6 million UAH, Ukrsibbank – 605.3 million UAH, Citibank – 544.9 million UAH, FUIB – 499.1 million UAH and Universal Bank (mono) – 378.5 million UAH were slightly behind.
As for the most loss-making bank in January, it was Forward Bank, owned by Russian Rustam Tariko, which the National Bank considered insolvent on February 8 – UAH 298.3 mln with an increase of reserves by UAH 291.8 mln.
In January, seven banks worked with losses, although the banks formed almost 4 billion UAH of additional reserves (PrivatBank took the biggest losses – 824.4 million UAH).
After the growth of assets of all banks by 91.6 billion UAH in December 2022, in January they increased only by 18.2 billion UAH, including at Ukreximbank – by 14.1 billion UAH, while PrivatBank even decreased by 5.48 billion UAH.
Due to the increase of the National Bank on January 11, the mandatory reserve requirements and permission to form up to half of them at the expense of government bonds, banks’ investment in government securities in the first month of the year increased by 20.9 billion UAH. The largest increase in portfolios was demonstrated by Oshchadbank (UAH 7.397 billion), Raiffeisen Bank (UAH 3.171 billion), FUIB (UAH 2.279 billion), Ukrgasbank (UAH 2.067 billion), Ukreximbank (UAH 1.688 billion), and Universal Bank (mono) – UAH 1.578 billion.

Profit of Ukrainian banks in January amounted to 14.7 billion UAH

Ukrainian banks’ profits in January 2023 amounted to 14.694 billion UAH, which is 2.1 times more than during the same month in 2022 (7.145 billion UAH), the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said Wednesday.
The regulator noted that banks’ revenues in January increased by 55% to UAH 38.65 billion, and expenses – by 35%, to UAH 23.956 billion.
At the same time, the fee and commission income rose by 4.6% – to UAH 8.3 billion.
At the same time the result of revaluation and from purchase and sale operations was positive and amounted to UAH 5.9 billion, while in the same period last year it was negative and amounted to UAH 42 million.
At the same time, deductions to the reserves rose by 58%, to 2.488 billion UAH, and the commission expenses increased by 31%, to 3.985 billion UAH,
As reported, the Ukrainian banks in 2022, net profit decreased by 3.1 times – to 24.716 billion UAH compared with 77.376 billion UAH in 2021.

Ukrainian banks in 2022 issued 2 thousand mortgages, which is 5.3 times less than in 2021

Ukrainian banks in 2022 issued 2 thousand mortgages worth UAH 1.96 billion – this is 5.3 times less than in 2021 by the number of such loans and 4.3 times less by volume, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said Thursday following a monthly survey of banks.
According to his data, in December 2022 issued 405 thousand mortgages worth 500 million UAH, which is the highest figure since the beginning of a full-scale war.
Information on the issuance of mortgages in December reported four banks, the regulator said.
It is indicated that two-thirds of the number of contracts were issued before the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation, in January and February, and in March no mortgages were issued at all.
In September and November the demand for mortgages began to recover, and banks issued 252 mortgages worth 280 million UAH.
The share of secondary market mortgages amounted to 99% of all mortgages issued in June and December.
The results of the survey show that the average size of a loan to buy housing in the primary market in 2022 rose to 954.875 thousand UAH from 898 thousand UAH in 2021, in the secondary market – to 974 thousand UAH from 809 thousand UAH.
In the regional context, more mortgage loans in 2022 were issued in Kiev and the Kiev region. – 241 contracts worth UAH 345 million (43% of the total amount), Volyn – 48 contracts worth UAH 60 million (8%), Vinnytsia – 37 contracts worth UAH 50 million (6%) and Chernihiv – 54 contracts worth UAH 47 million (6%).

Ukrainian banks’ profits reach UAH 7.4bn

Ukrainian banks’ profits in January-September 2022 amounted to 7.4 billion UAH, which is 6.9 times less than in the same period last year (51.4 billion UAH), the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said on Monday.
According to the report, losses of Ukrainian banks in September amounted to 1 billion UAH, while August’s profit amounted to 5.05 billion UAH.
The regulator noted that banks’ revenues in September increased by 13.3%, while expenses increased by 13.1%.
According to the regulator, banks’ income for nine months of this year increased by 30.8% against the same period last year – up to 255.08 billion UAH. At the same time, the fee and commission income decreased by 16% – to UAH 59.8 billion (whereas over the same period last year it increased by 28%).
At that the result from revaluation and purchase and sale operations was positive and made UAH 37.1 billion, while over the same period of previous year it was negative and made UAH 2.4 billion.
At the same time expenses of banking system in January-September 2022 increased by 72.5% compared with this index in 2021 – up to 247.7 billion UAH, including deductions to reserves – 12.9 times, up to 99 billion UAH. At the same time, the commission expenses increased by 2% up to UAH 25 billion,
As reported, the Ukrainian banks in 2021 doubled the net profit – up to 77.5 billion UAH, compared with 41.3 billion UAH in 2020.

National Bank published rating of most profitable banks in Ukraine

State-owned PrivatBank and Oschadbank topped the list of 43 profitable banks in August with net profits of UAH 3.21 billion and UAH 2.85 billion, respectively.

According to the data published by the National Bank of Ukraine on its website, they worked with a profit despite the formation of an additional UAH 7.71 billion and UAH 0.62 billion in reserves, respectively.

The main reason for such a significant profit of both state-owned banks was the result obtained in August from operations with financial assets and liabilities – UAH 7.49 billion and UAH 2.95 billion, respectively.

In addition, in August, PrivatBank showed an increase in total assets by UAH 14.95 billion, and Oschadbank – by UAH 8.22 billion, while the assets of the state-owned Ukreximbank immediately decreased by UAH 31.23 billion, which is probably due to the government receiving through it part of external financing and its spending.

Among other leaders in terms of profit in August were UkrSibbank – UAH 625.0 million, Citibank – UAH 444.4 million, Raiffeisen Bank – UAH 267.7 million, Universal Bank (monobank) – UAH 210.7 million, Ukrgasbank – UAH 143.0 UAH million and OTP Bank – UAH 131.4 million.

Alfa-Bank and the state-owned Ukreximbank showed the largest losses in August – UAH 1.357 billion and UAH 1.103 billion, respectively. During the month, these banks formed additional reserves of UAH 1.674 billion and UAH 0.776 billion, respectively. In addition, Alfa-Bank lost another UAH 1.51 billion of total assets in August.

Credit-Dnepr Bank – UAH 181.8 million, Idea Bank – UAH 110.7 million, Globus Bank and Kredobank – UAH 87 million and UAH 86 million, respectively, were also unprofitable.

According to the results of eight months of this year, PrivatBank remains the most profitable – UAH 14.15 billion, and Oschadbank took the second place due to the August result – UAH 2.34 billion.

Next come three banks with foreign capital: Raiffeisen Bank – UAH 1.87 billion, UkrSibbank – UAH 1.7 billion and Citibank – UAH 1.12 billion, followed by two private Ukrainian banks: Universal Bank – UAH 0.65 billion and Bank “Pivdenny” – UAH 0.34 billion.

The largest losses in January-August were shown by Alfa-Bank – UAH 4.88 billion and two state-owned banks: Ukreximbank – UAH 4.41 billion and Ukrgasbank – UAH 3.40 billion.

Rounding out the top five unprofitable are two banks with foreign capital: ProCredit Bank – UAH 1.29 billion and OTP Bank – UAH 0.44 billion.

In general, over the eight months of this year, 42 banks operated with a net profit, while 25 – with a net loss.

The total net profit of all banks amounted to UAH 8.43 billion, including UAH 5.1 billion in August, but excluding PrivatBank and Oschadbank, the financial result of the banking system will be negative – UAH 8.05 billion and UAH 0.95 billion, respectively.

According to the data of the National Bank, in August, the portfolios of government bonds of all banks decreased, most of all – Oschadbank: by UAH 3.05 billion, while Universal Bank – by UAH 1.99 billion, FUIB – by UAH 1.73 billion. In total, the banking portfolio of government bonds in August decreased by UAH 23.83 billion.

National Bank liquidates bank “Sich”

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has adopted a resolution to revoke its banking license from October 10 and liquidate the insolvent Sich Bank, the regulator’s press service reported on Thursday.

The corresponding decision was made by the resolution of the NBU Board No. 495-rsh dated October 6.

As reported, on August 10, 2022, the NBU board decided to classify Bank Sich JSC as insolvent due to the financial institution’s failure to fulfill its obligations to the NBU on refinancing loans within the time period established by the agreement due to insufficient funds.

The message on the regulator’s website also notes that Sich Bank did not pay interest on refinancing loans for July 2022, violating the terms of the general loan agreement concluded between the bank and the National Bank.

Each depositor of Sich Bank will receive compensation from the DGF in the full amount of the deposit, including interest accrued as of the end of the day preceding the day the procedure for withdrawing the bank from the market begins. In general, the possible amount of payments of the guaranteed amount to depositors as of July 1, 2022 is UAH 1.229 billion.

Bank “Sich” was founded in 2011. According to the bank’s website, as of January 1, 2022, its shareholders were Oleg Balanda (55.615%), Valery Razdorozhny (31.016%), Andrey Melnik (9.6257%) and Oleg Gubanov (3.7433%).
