Pivdenny maritime merchandise port in January 2020 handled 4.608 million tonnes of cargo, which is 28.45% more than in January 2019.
According to information from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, for the period the port increased transshipment of exported cargo by 9.4%, to 3.125 million tonnes, imported freight by 2.5 times, to 0.877 million tonnes, transit by 56%, to 0.606 million tonnes.
The port did not handle coastal cargo in January.
In January 2020, the port raised transshipment of liquid cargo by 16.76%, to 0.414 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo by 41.18%, to 3.91 million tonnes, and reduced transshipment of packaged goods by 38.7%, to 0.284 million tonnes.
Container transshipment amounted to 18,380 TEU (an decrease of 2.49% compared to the same period in 2019).
As reported, the port handled 53.862 million tonnes of cargo in 2019, which is 26.1% more than in 2018.

Transport enterprises of Ukraine (excluding the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as part of the Joint Forces Operation area) in 2019 increased cargo transportation by 8% compared to 2018, to 674.5 million tonnes, the State Statistics Service has said.
According to the report, the freight turnover of carriers for the specified period increased by 2.1%, to 338.9 billion tonne-kilometers.
According to statistics, in 2019 some 262.6 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail inside the country and for export, which is 1.9% less than in 2018.
Transportation of timber decreased by 58.3%, construction materials by 19.1%, scrap metal by 21.9%, coke by 12.1%, cement by 4.9%, coal by 6.4%, ferrous metals by 5%, oil and petroleum products by 5.7%.
At the same time, transportation of iron and manganese ore increased by 2.7%, grain and cereals by 21%, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 31.5%.
In the total volume of cargo transported by water, overseas accounted for 41%. The volume of foreign cargo transportation increased by 2.3%.
In 2019, compared with 2018, the volume of goods transported by pipelines rose. The handling of ammonia grew by 13%, gas by 1.1%, oil by 0.5%. Ammonia transit increased by 16.3%, gas transit by 3.3%. Oil transit decreased by 1.6%.
Mariupol seaport (Donetsk region) increased cargo transshipment by 10.12% in 2019 compared to 2018, to 6.484 million tonnes.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, the port increased transshipment of exported cargo by 6.81%, to 5.266 million tonnes, imported goods by 33.27%, to 1.209 million tonnes, while significantly reducing transshipment of cabotage cargo, to 8,800 tonnes. The port did not handle transit cargo.
According to the nomenclature of cargo in 2019, Mariupol port increased transshipment of liquid cargo by 5.1 times, to 144,100 tonnes, dry bulk cargo by 47.02%, to 2.512 million tonnes, but reduced transshipment of packaged goods by 7.78%, to 3.828 million tonnes.
As reported, the volume of cargo transshipment in Mariupol seaport in 2018 decreased by 9.62% compared to 2017, to 5.89 million tonnes.
The seaports of Ukraine in 2019 handled 160 million tonnes of cargo, which is 18.4% more than in 2018, the press service of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority has said.
“For the third year in a row, Ukraine’s seaports demonstrate an increase in transshipment. This year, our 13 ports, excluding those that remained in the territory of Crimea, have reached a record high in the entire history of their existence – 160 million tonnes. The maximum levels of grain and ore transshipment have been recorded. Container transportation overcame a ten-year maximum – one million TEU. Three ports at once, Pivdenny, Mykolaiv and Olvia, reached the maximum transshipment volume since their creation. And finally, the authority managed for the second time to provide dredging in the amount of more than 7 million cubic meters,” head of the agency Raivis Veckagans said.
According to the report, the agricultural sector carried out a record transshipment in 2019. Thus, according to the enterprise, grain cargo and oil accounted for more than a third (37.7%) of the total cargo flow in Ukrainian ports, while grain handling increased by 32%, to 54.6 million tonnes.
Transshipment of ore ranked second with 37.3 million tonnes per year (33% more). The top three cargo types in 2019 also included containers – more than 1 million TEU.
Exports rose by 22.2% compared with the same period of the previous year, to 121 million tonnes, imports by 8.7%, to 2.58 million tonnes, transit by 8%, to 11 million tonnes.
Among the Ukrainian ports, the leaders in terms of cargo transshipment in 2019 were Pivdenny with 53.9 million tonnes (26.1% more), Mykolaiv with 33.4 million tonnes (14.5% more), Chornomorsk with 26.2 million tonnes (21.4% more), and Odesa with 25.3 million tonnes (16.8% more).
Chornomorsk seaport (Odesa region) in January-November 2019 increased cargo transshipment by 21.8% compared to the same period in 2018, to 23.572 million tonnes.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, during this period Chornomorsk port increased transshipment of exported cargo by 22.4%, to 18.061 million tonnes, imported goods by 16.2%, to 4.4 million tonnes, transit cargo by 20.6%, to 933,710 tonnes, and also significantly increased transshipment of cabotage freight, by 4.1 times, to 200,570 tonnes.
Transshipment of liquid cargo in the port in January-November increased by 7.2%, to 1.510 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo by 23.9%, to 16.238 million tonnes, packaged goods by 20.6%, to 5.823 million tonnes.
Transshipment of containers amounted to 125,078 TEU (an increase of 11.2%).
As reported, the volume of transshipment at the port in 2018 rose by 25.02% compared to 2017, to 21.54 million tonnes.
