INFLATION IN UKRAINE UP TO 1.3% IN JAN

The growth of consumer prices in Ukraine in January 2022 accelerated to 1.3% from 0.6% in December and 0.8% in November 2021, the State Statistics Service reported.
At the same time, in January last year, it also amounted to 1.3%, so in annual terms, inflation remained at 10%, the agency said.
Underlying inflation fell to 0.1% last month from 0.4% in December and 0.8% in November. Taking into account 0.3% in January 2021, in annual terms underlying inflation decreased to 7.6% from 7.9% in the last year.
According to the State Statistics Service, in the consumer market in January 2022 compared to December 2021, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 2.5%. Vegetables went up in price by 20.5%, prices for eggs, fruits, bread, milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, rice, lard, butter increased by 3.9-1%. Sugar and sunflower oil fell in price by 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively.
Prices for clothes and footwear fell by 5.7%, including footwear – by 6.1%, clothing – by 5.4%.
The increase in tariffs for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.7% was mainly due to an increase in sewerage tariffs by 14.9%, water supply – by 12%.
Last month, transport prices increased by 1.3%, primarily due to a 2.9% increase in the cost of travel in railway passenger transport, and a 2.6% increase in fuel and lubricating oils.
In the telecommunications sector, prices increased by 1.1%, which is associated with an increase in tariffs for local telephone communications by 13.6%.
The increase in the cost of education services by 1.6% was mainly due to the increase in fees for the maintenance of children in preschool institutions by 23.3%.
As reported, in 2021 inflation in Ukraine rose to 10% from 5% in 2020 and 4.1% in 2019, while underlying inflation rose to 7.9% against 4.5% a year earlier.

CONSUMER PRICES IN UKRAINE REMAIN UNCHANGED IN AUGUST

Consumer prices in Ukraine, after the decrease by 0.7% in July, in August remained unchanged, while since the beginning of the year their growth was 3.6%, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has reported. According to the agency, in annual terms (August 2018 from August 2017) inflation slightly grew, to 9% compared to 8.9% in July, which, however, is below 9.9% in June and 11.7% in May.
Underlying inflation in August 2018 amounted to 0.1% after minus 0.1% in July, while in the eight months it reached 3.5%.
In annual terms, the rise in the basic index slowed to 8.7% from 8.8% in July and 9% in June.
As reported, inflation in Ukraine in 2017 accelerated to 13.7% compared with 12.4% in 2016, which, however, is significantly lower than in the past years, in particular 43.3% in 2015 and 24.9% in 2014.
The National Bank at the end of October 2017 downgraded the forecast for inflation in 2018 from 6% to 7.3%, in January 2018 to 8.9%, while the Cabinet of Ministers from 7% to 9%.

CONSUMER PRICES IN UKRAINE REMAIN UNCHANGED, INFLATION SLOWS TO 11.7% IN ANNUAL TERMS

Consumer prices in Ukraine in May 2018 remained unchanged from the previous month, while inflation was 0.8% in April, 1.1% in March, 0.9% in February and 1.5% in January, the State Statistics Service has said. According to the agency, in annual terms (May2018 to May 2017) the rise of consumer prices slowed down to 11.7% from 13.1% in April, 13.2% in March, 14% in February, and 14.1% in January.
Underlying inflation in May 2018 fell to 0.2% from 0.6% in April and 1.4% in March, in annual terms being 9.3%.
The service said that since the beginning of the year consumer prices in Ukraine have increased by 4.4%, while underlying inflation was 3.5%.
In May compared with April 2018 prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 0.7%. Prices for eggs and buckwheat fell most of all (by 9.5% and 7.3%). Prices for vegetables, milk and dairy products, sugar, lard, fruits, rice, sunflower oil fell by 2.9-0.5%. At the same time, prices for fish, pasta, bread, and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.8-0.5%.
Prices for alcoholic drinks and tobacco products grew by 1.8%, in particular for tobacco products by 2.4%, alcoholic drinks by 1.0%.
The growth of tariffs for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.1% was mainly due to the increase in water supply tariffs by 2.2%, sewerage by 1.8%, and housing maintenance by 1.2%.
