Kyiv Pulp and Paper Mill increases production by 6%

In January-September 2023, the volume of commercial output of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill (Kyiv Pulp and Paper Mill, Obukhiv, Kyiv region), Ukraine’s industry leader in this indicator, amounted to UAH 5 billion 566.3 million, up 6.1% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to statistics provided by UkrPapir Association to Interfax-Ukraine, the plant’s production of corrugated boxes increased by 23.7% in volume terms, to 168.3 million square meters. Cardboard output increased by 9.2% to 124.8 thousand tons, driven by a 15.5% increase in containerboard output to 102.7 thousand tons, while boxboard output decreased by almost 13% to 22.1 thousand tons.

At the same time, the output of base paper for sanitary and hygiene products maintained a negative trend: in January-September, it decreased by 24% to 33.3 thousand tons, and the production of toilet paper in rolls also decreased by 24% to 188.17 million units.

Despite the decline in toilet paper production, the plant maintains a strong leadership in toilet paper production in Ukraine. In total, in the first nine months of 2023, the country’s major enterprises produced 444.63 million rolls (down 1.4%).

According to statistics, in September of this year, Kyiv Pulp and Paper Mill increased production of corrugated boxes by 13.2% to 19.6 million square meters by September 2022, and paper and cardboard by 1.3% to 18.1 thousand tons.

According to the association’s data from major industry players, in January-September this year, Ukraine recorded a 9.8% increase in paper and cardboard production (up to 405.3 thousand tons) and a 17.7% increase in cardboard boxes (up to 379.6 million square meters).

Kyiv Pulp and Paper Mill is one of Europe’s largest cardboard and paper products producers, employing over 2,500 people.

As reported, in 2022, the mill produced UAH 7 billion 432 million worth of products, which is 3.5% less than in 2021.

Kyivsky paper mill increases production volume by 27.2%

The volume of marketable products of Kyivsky Cardboard and Paper Mill (Obukhiv, Kyiv region), the leader of the Ukrainian industry in this indicator, in January-March 2023 amounted to UAH 1.862 billion, and it was 27.2% more than in the first quarter of 2022.

According to the statistics of the UkrPapir association, provided to Interfax-Ukraine, in this way, the mill, following the results of the quarter, moved to a significant positive dynamics in the increase in production volume (according to the results of January-February, there was a decrease by 2.6%), primarily due to low the comparative base of March 2022 – the first full month of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

In kind, in March 2023, the production of corrugated boxes rose by 3.7 times compared to March 2022, to 16.9 million square meters, paper and cardboard 3.6 times, to 18,600 tonnes.

With the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the mill suspended production, but resumed it in March 2022.

Taking this into account, according to statistics, in January-March of this year, the production of corrugated boxes at the mill grew by 54.6%, to 52.34 million square meters. The output of cardboard rose by 26.2%, to 43,920 tonnes, due to the increase in the output of containerboard by 53.6%, to 36,380 tonnes, while the output of boxboard dropped by 32%, to 7,540 tonnes.

At the same time, the production of base paper for sanitary and hygienic purposes retains a downward trend, although it has slowed down – in January-March it fell by 31% to 10,220 tonnes, while the production of toilet paper in rolls fell by 29%, to 56.54 million.

The mill, despite the reduction in the production of toilet paper, retains leadership in its production in Ukraine: in general, in the first three months, the main enterprises of the industry produced 87.72 million rolls (10% less).

According to the statistics of the profile association received from industry enterprises, in total, in January-March 2023, they produced 131,560 tonnes of paper and cardboard, which is 12.4% more than in the first quarter of 2022, and 115.24 million square meters of cardboard boxes – 23.4% more.

At the same time, in March, the production of corrugated boxes grew by 2.5 times compared to March 2022 to 36.74 million square meters of paper and cardboard three times, to 44,240 tonnes.

Kyivsky Cardboard and Paper Mill is one of the largest enterprises in Europe for the production of cardboard and paper products with a staff of about 2,500 people.

Pulp Mill Holding (Austria) owns 100% of the company’s shares.

“Papir-Mal” reached positive dynamics of paper and cardboard production

Paper and cardboard mill “Papir-Mal” (Malyn, Zhytomyr region) at the end of 2022 increased production of paper and cardboard by 3% compared with 2021 – up to 42.31 thousand tons, according to statistics from the association “UkrPapir”.
According to statistics provided by “Interfax-Ukraine”, in January-November last year Papir-Mal showed negative dynamics in terms of production volumes of these products to the same period in 2021 – the decline was 4.5% up to 35.93 tons.
However, in December the factory increased the output of these products by 85%, to 6.4 thousand tons, and was able to reach a positive trend for the year.
In the total volume of paper and paperboard output increased by 10.4% to 38.28 thousand tons, while the production of base paper for sanitary products decreased by 37% to 4.03 thousand tons.
In monetary terms, the production volume of the company decreased by 4.7% to UAH 247 mln by 2021.
As reported with reference to the association “Ukrpapir” data collected from industry companies, last year the production of paper and paperboard in Ukraine decreased by 44.2% compared to 2021 – up to 500.6 thousand tons.
According to the information on the website of the company, with the beginning of a full-scale military aggression of Russia against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the factory has completely stopped production, but in March it resumed production.
In addition, as reported, Papir-Mal, having incurred losses, was forced to stop the production and shipment of paper napkins and towels under the trademark “Zetka” registered back in 2014 due to the use of the Latin Z as a symbol of the aggressor state army.
To date, the factory has two cardboard machines (the second was put into operation last year). Also at the enterprise since 2019 there is a line for recycling of Tetra Pak packages.
In 2021 “Papir-Mal” produced 259,14 mln UAH – 5% more than the year before.

“Carton and paper company” from Lviv in 2022 increased production volume by more than half

OJSC “Carton and Paper Company” (Lviv), major Ukrainian producer of carton sleeves and sanitary products, in 2022 increased production volume by 51.5% as compared to 2021 – up to UAH 1 billion 186 million.
According to statistics provided to agency “Interfax-Ukraine” statistical association “UkrPapir” in terms of volume the company slightly increased the output of paper-base for hygiene products – up to 7.04 thousand tons, while increasing the production of toilet paper rolls by 43% – to 4.1 million pieces.
Production of cardboard products also increased slightly (1.1%) – to 26.7 thousand tons.
As reported with reference to statistics “UkrPapyr”, the mill has continued to work all months from the beginning of this year, reducing the output of paper and paperboard in March (to March 2021), but in April has already gone to a positive trend, which remained in the following months.
“Carton and Paper Company” (until 2011 – “Lvivkartonoplast”) produces products and semi-finished products from waste paperboard (cardboard sheets, corners, sleeves), cellulose and recycled waste paper (toilet paper, towels, napkins TM Papero).
The owners of the company are four individuals, three of whom own equal shares of nearly 27.78%, one – 16.67%.
In 2021 the company produced UAH 782.7 mln worth of products, which is 47% more than the year before.

PRODUCTION OF PAPER AND CARDBOARD IN JAN-MAY IN UKRAINE DECREASED BY 45%, CORRUGATED PACKAGING – BY 57%

Production of paper and cardboard in Ukraine in January-May of this year decreased by 44.7% compared to the same period in 2021 – to 198.2 thousand tons, corrugated packaging – by 57%, to 126.9 million sq. m, according to the statistics of the association “UkrPapir”.
According to the statistics provided by the association to the Interfax-Ukraine agency, if in January of this year the production of paper and cardboard lagged behind last year by 4.6%, and corrugated boxes exceeded by 3.5%, then already in January-March, taking into account suspension of many enterprises with the beginning of a full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the production of these products decreased by 44% and 54%, respectively.
At the same time, some of the enterprises that stopped work at the beginning of the war never resumed it – in particular, due to the damage received in Rubizhne, the largest Ukrainian manufacturer of corrugated packaging, the Rubezhnoye Cardboard and Container Plant, stopped working (but its “daughter” in the Kyiv region – Trypilsky packing plant).
According to information in the disclosure system of the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market (NKTSBFR), a remote extraordinary meeting of the plant’s shareholders is scheduled for July 4 with the issue of transferring the location of the Rubezhsky CPC legal entity to Kyiv.
According to UkrPapir, the damaged Rogan cardboard factory in the Kharkiv region has not resumed work (and does not plan to).
From the producers of corrugated packaging, Dunapak Tavria LLC, located in the Kherson region, also does not work (it produced boxes for Novaya Poshta – IF), and the Mena Pak company in the Chernihiv region, according to information available to the association, was able to resume work in May.
Zmievskaya paper mill (Kharkiv region) after three months of forced downtime in May reported the production of 1863 tons of recycled paper against 783 tons in May 2021.
At the same time, after the February suspension of production, the industry leader Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill has been operating since March (in terms of the production of corrugated packaging last year – the second after Rubezhansky CPC), Zhydachevsky Pulp and Paper (Lvov region) and Izmail Cardboard (Odessa region), Malinsky paper factory and “Papir-Mal” (Zhytomyr region)
In addition, according to statistics, the Lviv Cardboard and Paper Company did not stop working, maintaining the output of paper and cardboard in January-May at the level of last year, Poninkovskaya (Khmelnytsky region) and Lutsk (Volyn region) cardboard and paper factories, Kokhavinskaya paper mill (Lviv region).
As reported, in 2021, the production of paper and cardboard in Ukraine increased by 9.8% by 2020, to 898.2 thousand tons, corrugated boxes – by 5.9% to 752.9 million square meters.
Association “UkrPapir” unites 35 enterprises and companies, in particular 20 manufacturers of cardboard and paper products and printing enterprises, 11 distributors, two suppliers and suppliers of waste paper.

UKRAINE REFUSES TO BAN IMPORT OF NEWSPRINT FROM RUSSIA

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has changed the date of resolution No.269 on expanding the list of goods prohibited for import into the customs territory of Ukraine, originating from Russia and excluded from it one item, namely, newsprint in rolls or sheets.

Resolution No.269, which had previously disappeared from the government’s website, was re-promulgated on it, but is now dated April 1, together with the original date of March 29.

The document continues to indicate that it will enter into force ten days after publication.
