Ukrainian metal companies in January-May 2021 increased earnings from exports of ferrous metals by 49.1% compared to the same period last year, to $4.92 billion.
According to the statistics released by the State Customs Service, in May, earnings from exports of ferrous metals amounted to $1.19 billion.
Ukraine boosted imports of similar products by 16.3% in January-May 2021, to $440 million. In May, this figure was $115.04 million.
In addition, Ukraine increased exports of metal products by 18.9% in the first five months of 2021, to $421.03 million. In May, their export amounted to $99.21 million.
During this period, imports of metal products increased by 22.2%, to $383.15 million. In May, they were imported for $93.12 million.
As reported, in 2020, Ukrainian metal companies reduced earnings from exports of ferrous metals by 12% compared to the previous year, to $7.690 billion. At the same time, Ukraine in 2020 reduced imports of similar products by 17%, to $1.040 billion.
This year, it is planned to build about 500 social infrastructure facilities to support and develop the young generation of Ukrainians within the framework of the Big Construction project.
A significant part of the Big Construction national program, which was initiated by the head of state, is made up of social infrastructure facilities, the presidential press service said on Tuesday.
So, this year it is planned to build or restore 95 schools, 70 kindergartens, 80 sports facilities and equip almost 200 outpatient clinics. There are about 500 objects in total.
“To make childhood in Ukraine happy, President Volodymyr Zelensky, the government, the Verkhovna Rada and local authorities are taking measures to protect and support young Ukrainians and create the most favorable conditions for their intellectual, cultural and physical development,” the President’s Office says.
Ericsson has launched a 5G demo center in its own office in Kyiv to demonstrate scenarios for the use of fifth generation mobile networks for digitalization of various industries.
As noted in the company’s report, on the basis of the demo center, it is possible to test new developments and products, as well as services for both business and end users of mobile communications.
The main elements of 4G and 5G networks, an autonomous dedicated 5G network, which includes a small core, Router 6000 for IP connectivity and a radio access system using Ericsson Radio Dot System have been installed and fully integrated in the demo center.
“The network operability is ensured in a continuous mode [24/7]. This will allow conducting tests as soon as possible, supporting most possible scenarios and organizing demonstrations using this system,” the report says.
On the basis of the center, industrial enterprises, mobile operators, innovative start-ups, as well as other players in the telecom market will be able to familiarize themselves with and test 4G/5G solutions for both business and end users of mobile services.
“5G networks will serve as the foundation for the development of the digital economy in the future. High-quality digital infrastructure is needed by users, business and the economy of the state. By investing in the opening of a 5G demo center in Ukraine, we have combined international expertise and the latest solutions from Ericsson to open up new opportunities for the development of advanced technologies and digital innovations in the country,” Yaroslav Nitsak, Managing Director of Ericsson in Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia, is quoted in the message.
According to the company, the center is open for the following purposes:
– demonstration of scenarios for using a dedicated 5G technological network, such as remote support, monitoring and control of the production process using continuous streaming of 360 video data in real time between objects;
– piloting of voice services of critical communication systems (Mission Critical Push-to-Talk) and demonstration of the work of the dispatch center, which monitors and controls the high priority emergency communication system;
– demonstration of the technological features of the fifth generation networks for mobile operators: network segmentation, high-speed data transmission, low latency;
– creation of a platform for piloting new developments and products using 5G modems for high-speed data transmission.
As reported earlier, the mobile operator Kyivstar switched to a new business IT system (billing) used for prepaid customers (over 80% of the operator’s client base), the solution was developed by the Swedish company Ericsson.

DTEK is considering the possibility of expanding its oil and gas business in Ukraine, CEO of the company Maksym Timchenko has said in an interview with the Ekonomichna Pravda edition.
“We are constantly studying the deposits of all available players on the market. That is, we are open to expanding our business, without exception, with all players, including state-owned companies. If there are such opportunities not only for acquisitions, but also for joint activities, some kind of joint projects in exploration and production, we are ready for this,” he said.
According to Timchenko, in particular, the assets of Geo Alliance group for DTEK are “a potential area of our interest.” At the same time, he did not comment on the details of the negotiations.
As reported, in 2020 DTEK Oil and Gas increased natural gas production by 10.8% (by 180 million cubic meters) compared to 2019, to 1.84 billion cubic meters. In 2021, the company plans to increase gas production to 2 billion cubic meters.
Geo Alliance produced 203 million cubic meters of gas in 2020.
