Aurora, Ukraine’s largest one dollar store chain, opened eight new stores across Ukraine on the eve of the fall, said Ruslan Kudrya, the chain’s development director.
“Today we have surpassed ourselves. At the end of the week, month and summer, we opened eight new stores across Ukraine in one day – the previous record was six,” he wrote on Facebook on August 31.
As specified in the message, three stores were opened in Kyiv, one in Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Morshyn and Dykanka village (Poltava region).
As reported, Aurora intends to open 400 new stores by the end of this year and reach 2,000 outlets in Ukraine by the end of next year.
“Aurora was founded in 2011 by Lev Zhidenko, Taras Panasenko and Lesya Klymenko. The head office of the Aurora retail chain is located in Poltava. Today, the chain has more than 1400 stores in Ukraine and 25 in Romania.
According to Opendatabot, the owner of Vygidna Kupilka LLC, which develops the chain, is listed as Cyprus-based Aurority Investments Limited, with Zhydenko as its beneficiary. The Cypriot company also owns Prior Development LLC, Seven A LLC, Promyslova 9 LLC, and Tak LLC.
At the end of 2023, the network’s net profit amounted to UAH 4.1 billion, and net income – UAH 27 billion.

The municipal enterprise Miskavtotrans of the Ternopil City Council has announced a tender for the purchase of 8-11 m long buses for a total of EUR 2 million under the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine program funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
According to the EIB’s announcement, the bids are scheduled to be opened on November 5 this year.
The tender documents state that the buses should be fully low-floor, with 20-35 seats.
The first batch is to be delivered no later than 32 weeks from the date of receipt of the advance payment by the supplier, and the contract is expected to last for 40 weeks. However, price is not the only criterion for awarding the contract, but all criteria are specified only in the procurement documents.
As reported, Ternopil has already tried three times to purchase buses through an international tender – the last time the tender for the purchase of 15 buses 9-12 m long was canceled at the end of 2023.
According to Etalon Corporation, a Turkish company was declared the winner, but during the tender period, prices for the equipment rose and it became unprofitable to supply them.
Initially, the tender was announced in early 2021, with applications submitted by the Belarusian MAZ and Etalon Corporation, which was expecting to win the tender, but the procedure was delayed and stopped due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Under the Urban Public Transport program, the EIB was supposed to provide a loan of up to EUR 2 million for the purchase of 15 buses by Miskavtotrans, including spare parts, equipment and tools for maintenance and related services.
Zaporozhkoks, one of Ukraine’s largest coke and chemical producers and a member of Metinvest Group, increased its blast furnace coke output by 2.1% year-on-year to 584.1 thousand tons from 572.3 thousand tons in January-August this year.
According to the company, it produced 74.5 thousand tons of coke in August.
As reported, Zaporozhkoks increased its blast furnace coke production by 16% in 2023 compared to 2022, up to 856.8 thousand tons from 737.4 thousand tons.

As of August 30, three factories in Vinnytsia, Ternopil, and Lviv regions started sugar beet processing in Ukraine, while the launch of the remaining factories is delayed due to the later harvesting of sugar beets, the industry association Ukrtsukor reports.
“In general, the expectations of a massive early launch of factories this year were not met due to dry weather conditions that complicate the harvesting of sugar beet. A number of plants have postponed the start of processing to a later date,” the business association explained.
According to the industry association, sugar beet has been harvested from 1.2 thousand hectares. The average yield is 50 t/ha, including 35 t/ha in Vinnytsia region, 44 t/ha in Poltava region, 58 t/ha in Ternopil region and 70 t/ha in Lviv region.
As of the same date last year, 2 sugar plants in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions started processing beets in Ukraine, Ukrtsukr said.
