TRANSPORT COMPANIES OF UKRAINE CARRIED 1.21 BLN PASSENGERS IN JAN-JUNE 2020

Transport companies of Ukraine carried 1.21 billion passengers in January-June 2020, which is 43.4% less than in the same period in 2019, the State Statistics Service has reported.
According to its report, the passenger turnover of transport companies for the reporting period amounted to 22.9 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 58.9% less than in the same period last year.
According to the State Statistics Service, 32.1 million passengers used rail transport in January-June (including city train services), which is 58.9% less than in January-June a year earlier, and 513.8 million passengers were transported by road (43.4% less).
Air transport reduced passenger traffic by 67%, to 2 million people.
In addition, according to the State Statistics Service, in the first half of the year, trams were used by 200.9 million passengers (a decrease of 35.8%), metro some 176.6 million (a decrease of 50.3%), trolleybuses 285.1 million people (a decrease of 40.3%).
Passenger transportation by water transport decreased by 93.2% and amounted to about 10,000 people.
According to the State Statistics Service, the figures are given without taking into account the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, Sevastopol and part of the temporarily occupied area of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

PRESIDENT OF SWITZERLAND SIMONETTA SOMMARUGA ARRIVES IN UKRAINE WITH THREE-DAY VISIT

President of Switzerland Simonetta Sommaruga has arrived in Ukraine with a three-day state visit by invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“For the first time in the history of Ukraine-Switzerland relations President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga arrived in Ukraine with a three-day state visit. This is the first official visit of such level for both Ukraine and Switzerland since the unprecedented restrictions caused by coronavirus have been lifted,” the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland said on its Facebook page on Monday.
Bilateral talks during the visit will be aimed at further development of contacts between the leaders of Ukraine Switzerland and deepening of the political dialogue at all levels. The Swiss president will also visit Donbas to which Switzerland regularly provides humanitarian aid.
“Simonetta Sommaruga’s visit to Kyiv today will begin with a cultural program dedicated to modern art and beautiful music which Mrs. President likes so much,” the embassy said.
First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova posted on her Facebook page pictures from Sommaruga’s arrival at Kyiv airport.
Dzhaparova said that the subject of Crimea and the consequences of its temporary occupation will also be on the agenda of the visit.
“Switzerland support numerous humanitarian projects aimed at assistance to Ukrainian citizens. Switzerland has invested $1.715 billion in Ukraine’s economy [as of January 2020]. The country is among top five leading investors in the economy of Ukraine, ahead of France, Italy or Austria. A major part of Swiss investment in Ukraine was channeled in industry [around 60%],” the deputy minister said.

DYNAMO KIEV FOOTBALL CLUB FIRES COACHING STAFF

Dynamo Kyiv Football Club has expressed its sincere gratitude to head coach Oleksiy Mykhailychenko and his assistants Vadym Yevtushenko, Serhiy Fedorov and Mykhailo Mykhailov. Dynamo will begin preparations for the next season with a new coaching staff.
“Having received the team during the season, this coaching staff made every effort to fulfill the tasks set for the season. As a result, Dynamo won the Ukrainian Cup and took second place in the championship, which gives the right to compete for participation in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. At the same time, the club’s management and the large army of Dynamo fans cannot satisfy with the current level of the team’s play, the lack of progress sufficient to fight for the title of champion of Ukraine and a worthy performance in European club tournaments. For this, Dynamo’s game must reach a new level of quality,” said a message on the club’s official website on Monday, July 20.
A new team leadership for the new season will be announced later.
In the championship of Ukraine, which ended over the weekend, Dynamo took second place and was on the verge of missing the Champions League qualification. The capital club lagged behind Shakhtar Donetsk, which became the champion for the fourth time, with 23 points.
