KYIV. Oct 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – State-run enterprise Artyomsol in January-September 2017 saw a slight rise in salt production year-over-year, to 1.2 million tonnes.
The company said in a press release that the figures could have been higher if more wagons were provided to Artyomsol.
Since early 2017 the enterprise has produced around 834,000 tonnes of unpackaged salt shipped in bulk (more than twice up year-over-year). The increase was seen thanks to a rise in exports to far abroad.
Some 513,300 tonnes was sent to the EU. Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and other countries remain permanent consumers of Artyomsol’s products.
Demand on some types of products fell. Since early 2017, production of packaged salt fell by 25.5%, to 144,400 tonnes. Iodine-treated salt output dropped by 15.7%, to 43,600 tonnes and salt in bags production fell by 8.6%, to 160,200 tonnes.
“Due to the loss of the Russian market, production of salt in small soft containers fell to 38,700 tonnes or 8.2% of the production volume seen a year ago,” the company said.
Artyomsol is the largest enterprise for production and sale of table salt (NaCl) in Central and Eastern Europe. Its production facilities are located in Soledar (Donetsk region). The company exports its products to 19 countries. About 35% of the company’s products are sold in Ukraine, and the rest are supplied abroad (data for 2016).
