The harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2021/2020 marketing year may exceed 100 million tonnes, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko said on Monday.
“If the amount of precipitation is at the same level as we see in May, then there will be an increase in soybeans as well,” the minister told Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, the timely implementation of the complex of spring field work by the farmers makes it possible to assess the volume of the harvest in the current season with “healthy optimism.”
“We have all the prerequisites for setting an absolute record this year – the harvest of grain and oilseeds [at the level of] 100 million tonnes,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
As reported, the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) estimated the growth of the potential harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2021/2022 marketing year by 14.5% compared to 2020/21, to 96.25 million tonnes thanks to good wintering of winter crops and favorable weather conditions.
World crude steel production in April this year grew by 23.3% year-on-year, to 169.5 million tonnes, according to a press release from the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
Based on the results of the work of metallurgical enterprises in April 2021, Ukraine increased steel production by 37.8% compared with April 2020, to 1.845 million tonnes, climbing from 13th to 14th place in the ranking of 64 countries – the world’s main producers of these products compiled by Worldsteel.
In April, an increase in steel production was recorded compared with April last year in all countries of the top ten.
The top ten steel-producing countries in April 2021 are as follows: China (97.850 million tonnes, a rise of 13.4% on April 2020), India (8.3 million tonnes, a rise of 152.1%), Japan (7.817 million tonnes, a rise of 18.9%), the United States (6.896 million tonnes, a rise of 43%), Russia (6.5 million tonnes, a rise of 15.1%), South Korea (5.860 million tonnes, a rise of 15.4%), Germany (3.361 million tonnes, a rise of 31.5%), Turkey (3.290 million tonnes, a rise of 46.6%), Brazil (3.073 million tonnes, a rise of 59.3%) and Iran (2.470 million tonnes, a rise of 6.4% ).
They are followed by Italy (2.056 million tonnes, a rise of 78.9%), Taiwan (China, 1.915 million tonnes, a rise of 9.1%), Vietnam (1.880 million tonnes, a rise of 77.4%), Ukraine (1.845 million tonnes, a rise of 37.8%) and Mexico (1.610 million tonnes, a rise of 21%).
In total, 64 countries produced 662.780 million tonnes of steel in January-April 2021, which is 13.7% more than in the same period last year.

Judges of the Pivdenny Economic Court of Appeal Vitaliy Korsak, Olha Popikova and Oleksiy Yevsikov, appointed to consider the case on the illegal disconnection of the solar power plant of Nikopol Ekoteknik (TIU Canada) by of the Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant, rejected themselves, the Canadian company said in a press release.
As TIU Canada recalled, the company had previously filed a motion to dismiss Korsak, Popikova and Yevsikov from the hearing the case “because of warnings about the connection between the latter and oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky, who is included in the list of persons subject to U.S. government sanctions.”
Although the lawyers’ claim was not satisfied, the judges voluntarily announced their withdrawal from the case. This means that other judges will be appointed and a new date for the hearing will be scheduled, the company said in the press release.
Today, the company got a small victory in a big war. TIU Canada will continue its fight for justice in accordance with the law, TIU Canada President Michael Yurkovich said.
The Italian group Måneskin has won in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with 524 votes.
The Ukrainian band Go_A with the song Shum took the fifth place with 364 votes.
The top three also included representative of France Barbara Pravi with the song Voilà, which received 499 votes, and representative of Switzerland, Gjon’s Tears, with the song Tout l’Univers, who scored 432 points.
