KYIV MAYOR KLITSCHKO WANTS TO BUILD INCINERATION PLANT IN UKRAINIAN CAPITAL

It is planned to build a new incineration plant in Kyiv within the next two or three years, according to the information department of Kyiv City State Administration, with reference to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko. “Rubbish is the problem of not only of Kyiv, it is a problem of the whole country. Now we have one incinerator plant in the capital – Energy. We need a new incineration plant. Such a plant should be built within two or three years,” Klitschko said on the air of the Snidanok z 1+1 (Breakfast with 1+1) TV program.
According to the mayor, almost 1.2 million tonnes of garbage accumulate in Kyiv every year.
He stressed that a strategic decision had already been made to abandon the practice of dumping waste and begin to process it.
“We have studied in detail the experience of other countries. The competitive commission is already working, a tender for the construction of an incineration plant has been announced,” he said.
According to the mayor, the capacity of the planned plant should be more than 420,000 tonnes of waste per year. Landfill No. 5, which will be closed in future, has approximately the same capacity.
“Soon, work will begin on the reconstruction of landfill No. 5. The dams will be strengthened, the capacity of the filtrate processing equipment will be increased. We will strengthen the landfill, install a degassing system and then close it,” Klitschko said.

CORUM GROUP TO LEASE TUNNELING MACHINES TO POLISH COMPANIES

Corum Group has signed contracts for supply five tunneling machines for Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG) and Jastrzębska Spółka Węglową (JSW, both based in Poland) for the total amount of PLN 22.8 million (EUR 5.3 million), which the companies will lease for three years.
The press service of Corum told Interfax-Ukraine that the first tunneling machine, intended for JSW, in August will begin operations at the Szczyglowice mine.
A number of modifications have been made to the design of the mass model of the tunneling machines in accordance with the requirements of the customer for maximum adaptation to the conditions of the customer mine. It is equipped with a 150 kW engine and a sector irrigation system for suppressing dust in the face and preventing sparks from working in the face.
“Our tunneling machines have proven themselves at the coal mining enterprises of Poland, working here since 2013. We put the first tunneling machine on the Polish market for JSW, and it has been successfully operated to this day,” the press service of the Corum Group reported, citing CEO Mykhailo Potapov.
The tunneling machine for JSW is supplied with additional equipment, which includes belt conveyor, power train, pumping unit, data transmission system, visualization and monitoring system. Terms of the contract also include comprehensive maintenance of machinery.
Corum intends to deliver another four tunneling machines to the company Polska Grupa Górnicza. One of them for the RUDA mine is scheduled for shipment by the end of September this year, the next three for the Bolesław Śmiały mine between June and September 2019.
Corum Group unites the machine-building assets of the SCM financial and industrial group. In 2017, the company’s share of exports increased to 41%. The key countries of presence are Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Vietnam and Estonia.

FIRST SINCE 2013 UKRAINE HAS GROWTH IN EMPLOYMENT

Acting Head of the State Employment Service of Ukraine Valeriy Yaroshenko has said that the amount of employed population in Ukraine grew by 0.9% year-over-year.
“We are witnessing that the labor market is actually demonstrating some kind of stabilization for the first half of 2018. The growth in the employment of the population for us, according to the state statistics, occurred for the first time since 2013,” he told a news conference in. According to Yaroshenko, in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year the number of employed population in Ukraine increased by 149,000 people (by 0.9%), and the unemployment rate is 9.7%.
At the same time, he said that 21.8% of Ukrainians work in the shadows, while last year there were 22.3% of them.
“We have 304,000 people registered with the State Employment Service today,” Yaroshenko said.
According to him, 47% of them have higher education, and in the cities of Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy and Lviv in employment centers from 85% to 90% of the unemployed people have higher education.
“As of July 27, compared with the same date in 2017, the number of unemployment assistance recipients in the country is 23,000, which is 8% less than it was in 2017,” he said.
In addition, he said that the average amount of assistance payments is growing in the country. Thus, minimum assistance under the law is UAH 544 per month, and 25% of the unemployed receive it, and the maximum is UAH 7,048, and 5% unemployed (last year 3%) receive it.
“The number of vacancies has significantly increased over the past year, we now have about 130,000 vacancies in the database,” the head of the State Employment Service said.
At the same time, he pointed out the existence of a large imbalance in the labor market between the vacancies offered and the demand of applicants.
Yaroshenko said that at the moment the employment market in Ukraine most in need of locksmiths, electric welders, turners, bakers, drivers, salesmen, cooks, waiters, nurses, tractor drivers and agricultural machinery servicemen.
“We for half a year were able to retrain and raise the qualification of 88,000 unemployed,” Yaroshenko said.

AUSTRALIAN GRAINCORP OPENS TRADE OFFICE IN UKRAINE, ESTIMATES OPTIONS FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

GrainCorp, a large Australian grain trader, has opened the first official representative office in Ukraine (Kyiv), the company has said. “Ukraine and the Black Sea are important for our growth, so we are very pleased with the development in this region. We have a strong team in Ukraine, which will directly deal with the supply of Ukrainian grain to our customers around the world. At this stage we have only trade office, but we are estimating options for further development,” Director for Government and Media Relations at GrainCorp Angus Trigg told Interfax-Ukraine.
GrainCorp is engaged in production and sale of grain, edible oils and malt. It has the largest integrated network of storage and transportation of grain in Eastern Australia. The company operates on four continents, exports products to more than 30 countries. GrainCorp operates in Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe (including the UK). According to the company, it is included in the top five global producers of malt.

KYIV SIKORSKY AIRPORT SERVICES AROUND 1.5 MLN PASSENGERS IN JAN-JULY

Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (Zhuliany) in January-July 2018 serviced around 1.5 million passengers, according to a posting on the official Facebook page of the airport. “On August 1, 2018, the airport serviced a 1.5 millionth passenger since the beginning of the year. The figure is indicative. It indicates the rapid and confident development of the airport. In August 2017, Hlib Deineha became the millionth passenger, he was then 3.5 years old,” the airport said. The press service said that the airport plans to service 2.8 million passengers by the end of 2018.
