Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk offers representatives of international organizations to become members of civilian support centers at regional administrations

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk suggests representatives of international organizations to become members of the Coordination Centers for Support of the Civilian Population at regional military administrations (OBA).

“We should focus on working with organizations that help people with disabilities,” Vereshchuk is quoted by the press service of the department following the forum “Inclusion and participation: people with disabilities at the center of humanitarian response policy during the war”.

In this regard, Deputy Prime Minister urged international organizations to actively assist vulnerable categories of people next year.

In addition, Vereshchuk suggested that representatives of international organizations should be included in the Civilian Support Coordination Centers set up at regional military administrations across Ukraine so that they could directly participate in decision-making on the ground.

The forum “Inclusion and Participation: People with Disabilities at the Centre of Humanitarian Response Policies in Times of War” was organized by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as part of an international technical assistance project aimed at increasing accessibility of political and public life, as well as full inclusion of all citizens in the democratic process. Any views expressed during the event are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of IFES.

The National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine has more than a hundred organizations representing the interests of people with various disabilities. Since the first days of the war, organizations have been providing humanitarian aid to people with disabilities and the elderly from different regions of Ukraine: food, hygiene products, assistive technologies, medicines, and non-food essentials. The organizations have created shelters (5 regions), spaces for children (various locations in 18 regions), and provide counseling and psychological support. The NAIU works with civilians and military personnel who have acquired disabilities as a result of the war, advocates for the protection of the rights of people with disabilities in various areas, and more.

Sweden to study possibility of transferring Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

The Swedish government will soon instruct the Armed Forces to study the possibility of transferring Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine, Swedish radio Ekot reports, citing its own sources.

“The government will soon instruct the Swedish Armed Forces to study the conditions for sending Gripen aircraft to Ukraine. Among other things, the government wants to get information on how the transfer will affect Sweden’s defense capabilities and how quickly Sweden will be able to receive new Gripen aircraft as compensation,” the radio said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

As noted, another issue that needs to be assessed by the Swedish government is whether Ukrainian pilots and other ground personnel should be trained.

Sweden’s JAS 39 Gripen is a fourth-generation multi-role fighter jet. Formally, it belongs to the class of fighter jets, but it was conceived as a multi-purpose universal aircraft capable of performing various tasks.

In August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian pilots had begun training on the JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet. Zelenskyy also informed about negotiations with the Swedish government to provide Ukraine with these aircraft.

Later, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that the country needed the planes for its own defense, as the country’s application to join the Alliance had not yet been finalized. At the same time, he did not rule out the transfer of fighter jets to Ukraine in the future.

More than 30 thousand pilgrims will come to Uman to celebrate Jewish New Year

More than 30 thousand pilgrims are expected to arrive in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, which corresponds to the average rate of visitation in the period before the coronavirus pandemic and in peacetime, said the first deputy mayor of Uman Oleg Ganich.

“Travel agencies have already sold more than 30 thousand tickets for flights and to places of pilgrimage to Uman. Therefore, we expect more than 30 thousand pilgrims. This is the number of pilgrims who came to us before the coronavirus and in times of peace, when there was no war,” he said on the air of the national telethon on Wednesday.

At the same time, Ganich noted that the pilgrims are not stopped by warnings of danger from either the Israeli authorities or the Ukrainian authorities. “They believe that meeting the new year at the tomb of Tzadik Nachman guarantees them a happy, kind, cheerful and bountiful year,” he said

Last year, according to official figures, 23,000 pilgrims were registered, Ganich recalled. He noted that the official figures did not differ significantly from the actual figures – “200-300-500 people at most.”
