Security measures are being tightened in Uman starting Monday, September 23, according to the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Igor Taburets.
“As in previous years, there will be a special regime of entry and exit, movement of citizens,” Taburets wrote in his telegram channel.
In particular, vehicles will be banned from entering Uman from the M-30 highway via Derevianka and Horikhova streets, as well as from Rodnykivka village to Uman via Pavlova street.
In addition, traffic on Derevyanka Street, Internatsionalna Street (entrance from the M-05 highway), the intersection of Horodotska Street and Maksyma Zaliznyak Street (entrance from Horodotske village), Mykhailivska Street and Vokzalna Street (entrances from the M-30 highway), and Kyivska Street (entrance from Rodnykivka village) will be subject to enhanced control.
The control regime will also be tightened at the entrance from the M-05 Kyiv-Odesa highway to Uman, on Vyzvolyteliv Street for entry of Hasidim only.
In addition, the sale of alcoholic beverages, fireworks and pyrotechnics is prohibited in the pilgrimage neighborhood.
“I ask you to treat all events with understanding. This is a necessity. Because the safety of Uman residents and pilgrims is a constant priority during the upcoming Rosh Hashanah,” Taburets emphasized.
Rosh Hashanah is celebrated this year on October 2-4.
