Ukraine reduced imports of aluminum ores and concentrate by 99.98%

Ukraine in January-March this year, Ukraine reduced imports of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in physical terms by 99.98% compared to the same period last year – up to 202 tons.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), during this period, imports of bauxite in monetary terms decreased by 99.6% – to $164 thousand.

At the same time, imports were mainly from Guinea (100% of supplies in money terms).

Ukraine did not re-export bauxite in 1Q2023, like in 1Q2022.

As reported, Ukraine in 2022 decreased the import of aluminum ore and concentrate (bauxite) in volume terms by 81.5% compared to the previous year – up to 945.396 tons. Bauxite imports in monetary terms decreased by 79.6% to $48.166 million. Imports were mainly from Guinea (58.90% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (27.19%) and Ghana (7.48%).

Bauxite is an aluminum ore used as a raw material for the production of alumina, and from it, aluminum. They are also used as fluxes in steel industry.

Bauxite is imported into Ukraine by the Nikolaev Alumina Refinery (NGR), which before the war was affiliated with the United Company (UC) Russian Aluminum (RusAl, RF). Bauxite is used to produce alumina.

“RusAl in Ukraine also previously owned a stake in the Zaporozhye Aluminum Plant (ZALK), which stopped producing primary aluminum and alumina.

Ukraine reduced imports of aluminum ores and concentrate by 81.5%

Ukraine in 2022 decreased imports of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in volume terms by 81.5% compared to the previous year – up to 945.396 thousand tons, in November-December the import was not carried out.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), imports of bauxite in monetary terms fell by 79.6% during this period – to $48.166 million.
At the same time imports were carried out mainly from Guinea (58.90% in monetary terms), Brazil (27.19%) and Ghana (7.48%).
Ukraine did not re-export bauxite in 2022.
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 decreased imports of aluminum ore and concentrate (bauxite) in volume terms by 0.1% compared to 2020 – to 5 million 114.227 thousand tons. Imports of bauxite in monetary terms increased by 4.2% to $236.638 million.
Imports were carried out mainly from Guinea (59.33% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (21.33%) and Ghana (16.8%).
Ukraine in 2021 re-exported 277 tons of bauxite worth $70 thousand to Belarus (48.57%), Poland (40%) and Russia (7.14%), while in 2020 was re-exported to Poland 255 tons of bauxite worth $41 thousand.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), during this period, imports of bauxite in monetary terms decreased by 77.5% – to $48.166 million.
Ukraine did not re-export bauxite in January-November 2022.

Ukraine in January-September this year reduced imports of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in physical terms by 75.6% compared to the same period last year – up to 945.311 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (STS), during this period, bauxite imports in monetary terms decreased by 72.8% to $48.106 million.
At the same time, imports were carried out mainly from Guinea (58.97% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (27.22%) and Ghana (7.49%).

Ukraine cuts import of aluminum ores by 72%

Ukraine in January-August 2022 reduced the import of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in kind by 72.1% compared to January-August 2021, to 945,207 tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, during this period, bauxite imports in monetary terms dropped by 68.9%, to $48.027 million.
The products were mainly imported from Guinea (59.07% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (27.27%) and Ghana (7.5%).
Ukraine in January-August 2022 did not re-export bauxite.

Ukraine for 7 months reduced imports of aluminum ores by 69%

Ukraine in January-July this year reduced the import of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in physical terms by 69.4% compared to the same period last year – up to 938.226 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (STS), during this period, bauxite imports in monetary terms decreased by 66.1% – to $47.330 million.
At the same time, imports were carried out mainly from Guinea (59.94% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (27.67%) and Ghana (7.61%).
