UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES COMPROMISE REACHED WITH ARCELORMITTAL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a compromise has been reached with ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, a mining and metallurgical plant in Kryvy Rih.
“They officially put the position, but we found some kind of framework – as of today. Because maybe something will change, I don’t know. We signed a paper for 400 million [hryvnias] – they need to build a cancer center,” Zelensky said during a press marathon in Kyiv on Thursday.
As reported, PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will allocate EUR15 million (about UAH 400 million) for the construction of an oncology center in Kryvy Rih.
At the end of July, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih said that the SBU Security Service of Ukraine had conducted searches at the enterprise as part of criminal proceedings opened against the enterprise for environmental pollution under Article 441 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (ecocide).
Before that, Zelensky criticized ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih for having failed to meet the deadline to improve the environmental situation in the region and called for providing targeted financial support to those who suffered from harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

ARCELORMITTAL KRYVYI RIH BUYS FOUR CZECH DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES

The Mining and Metallurgical Combine PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has signed a contract with OTP Leasing financial support for purchase of four locomotives of CZ Loko based in Czech Republic. According to a press release from ArcelorMittal, the enterprise will receive diesel locomotives of an EffiShunter 1600 worth EUR 9 million in 2020.
OTP Leasing Director Andriy Pavlushyn said that the company had thoroughly prepared the given project with ArcelorMittal team and Czeck colleagues from CZ Loko.
“We are glad that the bargain was successful. For us this is a first step towards this direction: in financing operations with the locomotives, which together with our mobile and farm machineries, trucks and vans will enrich a portfolio of the main products of the company,” a press service quotes Pavlushyn as saying.
For his part, ArcelorMittal Transport Department Director Oleksiy Rybalkin said that the combine would be the first enterprise in Ukraine that will use Czech locomotives of the new generation.
Diesel locomotive EffiShunter 1600 is intended for shunting and line service. The locomotive is equipped with alternating/direct current power transmission (AC/DC) from the diesel engine to six powered wheelsets. Parameters of the vehicle are optimized for station shunting and for heavy operation on industrial sidings, e.g. in metallurgical, mining and petrochemical sectors, and for the line service.
CZ Loko is one of the largest Czech manufacturers of diesel-electric locomotives and special railway vehicles.

ARCELORMITTAL OPENS NEW DEPOT FOR STEEL PRODUCTS IN UKRAINE

The Mining and Metallurgical Combine PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) has opened a new metalware storage facility in Dnipro city with a loading capacity of 5,000 tonnes per month.
The new facility has a total area of 8,000 square meters and both indoor and outdoor storage yards, three cranes with carrying capacity up to 15,000-20,000 tonnes and its own railway spur. It can store up to 10,000 tonnes of steel products, the enterprise reported in its press release. The depot can provide services for motor vehicles as well.
As regional sales manager at ArcelorMittal Yevhen Chumachenko said, now the distribution network of the enterprise comprises nine storage facilities, two of which are in Kyiv and Lviv (two in each city), Kryvyi Rih, Odesa, Kharkiv, Ternopil and Dnipro.
Besides, according to him, the depot in Dnipro will serve as a logistic center for the certain districts of central, south and eastern Ukraine.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is the largest rolled steel producer of in Ukraine.

ZELENSKY CRITICIZES ARCELORMITTAL KRYVY RIH FOR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the Mining and Metallurgical Combine PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) for failing to fulfill its commitments to improve the environmental situation in the region and urged to provide targeted financial support to people affected by harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
“If this program has been postponed for five years and not agreed with the citizens, I would like to ask you if you can consider some financial compensation for residents of Kryvy Rih, who have suffered for five years, to help them with treatment? I think that the municipality can help us find a list of people who, unfortunately, fell ill with cancer over the years,” he said at a meeting on the environmental situation in Kryvy Rih and Dnipropetrovsk region in Kryvy Rih on Friday.
According to Zelensky, over the past five years, an average of 25,000 people have appeared in Kryvy Rih, who have had cancer in one form or another.

ARCELORMITTAL KRYVYI RIH SIGNS $30 MLN CONTRACT WITH CHINA’S CISDI TO MODERNIZE LARGEST BLAST FURNACE

PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) has signed an agreement worth almost $30 million with the Chinese company CISDI for the modernization of the largest blast furnace (No. 9).
According to a press release of the company, the contract includes the development of engineering, the supply of basic equipment, its installation, supervision and training of the metallurgical plant’s personnel.
It is noted that the company has four blast furnaces, of which DP-9 is the largest one, its useful volume exceeds 5,000 cubic meters. It produces about half of all pig iron at the steel plant and is still considered one of the largest in Europe.
The modernization of the furnace will increase its productivity to 10,000 tonnes of pig iron per day using the existing raw materials and up to 12,000 tonnes using sinter and pellets. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plans to produce pellets after the construction of a pelletizing plant (the declared capacity is 4.5-5 million tonnes per year). Both projects are the key ones in the enterprise’s investment program for the renovation and construction of production facilities.
