The municipal enterprise of urban electric transport Zaporozhelektrotorans has announced two tenders for the purchase of new low-floor trolleybuses and electric buses within the framework of the project “Urban Public Transport of Ukraine” financed with funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB), according to the August 4 EU Official Gazette announcement made public in ProZorro on Monday.
The first tender with an estimated value of EUR4.03 million excluding VAT (including EUR3.03 million EU Neighborhood Investment Platform (NIP) grant) involves the purchase of fully low-floor trolleybuses 11.9 – 12.7 m long with dynamic charging from the catenary network, equipped with a battery for autonomous running. The contract amount includes equipment and tools for maintenance, a set of spare parts, and related services.
Passenger capacity of the trolleybus is at least 100 people, including 30 (+/-10%) seated. Folding seats are not allowed, but there must be one seat for a passenger in a wheelchair and four for passengers with low mobility.
Bids are scheduled to be opened on September 19, 2023, with the arrival date of the first shipment no later than eight months from the date of receipt of the advance payment, for a total contract period of 11 months.
According to experts’ estimates, 14-16 trolleybuses can be purchased for this amount.
The second tender for an estimated contract amount of EUR9.84 million of EIB funds involves the purchase of two-axle low-floor electric buses with a length of 12.5 meters (+/-0.5 meters), including charging stations.
The expected passenger capacity is at least 105 people, including 30 (+/- 10%) seating places. The cabin must have one seat for a passenger in a wheelchair, seats for passengers with low mobility, and a seat for a guide dog.
The contract period is 12 months and the first shipment must be delivered no later than 9 months from the date of receipt of the advance payment.
Disclosure of bids is scheduled for September 20.
Price is not the only criterion for awarding these contracts, but all criteria are specified in the procurement documents only.
Bus Motor LLC, which is part of the Bogdan Corporation, has signed a distribution agreement with the Chinese company Zonson Smart Auto Corporation, which is part of the large ZTE Corporation, the press service of Bogdan has reported.
According to a report with reference to Director General of Bus Motor Oleh Mischenko, the agreement at the first stage of cooperation provides for the supply of a demo bus for tests in Ukraine. The bus has a European certificate and meets all environmental and technical standards.
“Also, Zonson Smart Auto Corporation is considering the possibility of manufacturing electric buses from SKD/CKD [semi knocked down/сomplete knock down] kits at the facilities of Bus Motor LLC.
According to the report, Zonson Smart Auto Corporation recently entered the Hungarian market with its new electric bus.
Bus Motor LLC is an exclusive distributor of Bogdan buses, trolleybuses, electric buses manufactured at the subsidiary company Auto Assembly Plant No. 1 (Lutsk) of Bogdan Motors.

Chinese manufacturer of dual-layer capacitors Shanghai Aowei Technology Development Co. is interested in creating a joint production base for manufacturing electric buses at the Chernihiv Automobile Plant (ChAZ) of the Etalon Corporation, the press service of the Chernihiv City Council has informed. Representatives of the Chinese company met with city mayor of Chernihiv Vladyslav Atroshenko last week, prior to visiting the Chernihiv trolleybus management company for the general condition of the enterprise, trolleybus depot and networks, as well as the Chaz to study its capabilities to create a base for the production of electric buses.
Representatives of the Chinese company noted that they have similar successful experience with Belarus.
According to the message, a representative of the company Hua Lee noted the potential of the ChAZ to create such a base and said that soon negotiations would be held with the management of the plant to make a final decision on joint production. “We did not come here to sell you electric buses; we want to introduce our technologies together with the local manufacturer. We would like to create a production base, as we did it in Belarus,” the press service of the City Council quoted Hua Lee as saying.
Atroshenko, in turn, expressed interest in attracting lending from China, including the creation of the necessary infrastructure for electric buses.
Shanghai Aowei Technology Development intends to send a group of designers to Chernihiv in late July and early August to research the existing contact network and the state of public transport, then provide reports and options for resolving these issues in a comprehensive manner. Shanghai Aowei Technology Development is an export-oriented enterprise specializing in the development, manufacture and sale of electric double-layer capacitors and ultra capacitors which was established in 1998. They are used in the construction of electric motors and other electronic equipment for electric buses. It exports its products mainly to Asia.
ChAZ produces buses of various modifications on the chassis of Indian TATA and Ashok Leyland, including school buses. In addition, the plant has established the production of trolleybuses.
