As of June 9, all Ukrainian regions entered ‘green’ quarantine zone.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, the weakest quarantine restrictions are in effect in the “green” zone, including this level allows revising the approaches to anti-epidemic restrictions in terms of easing.
The “green” level is set simultaneously throughout Ukraine, if, in particular, the detection rate of cases of COVID-19 infection by PCR and by determination of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen is less than 5%.
In addition, the “green” level in the country is established if the incidence in at least 13 regions of Ukraine is less than 50% of the epidemiological threshold.
On May 31, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine registered a European-made AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 for emergency medical use, according to the agency’s website.
The vaccine, developed by Oxford University and the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, is reportedly manufactured in Italy and has the trade name AstraZeneca. The AstraZeneca emergency vaccine has already been approved by the World Health Organization and has also been approved by the UK, EU, India and Canada.
By the end of the week, within the framework of the global COVAX initiative, 705,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in Ukraine. It will be intended for vaccination with a second dose of those who have already passed the 12-week interval after the first vaccination, in particular, doctors and healthcare workers, JFO participants, social workers, clergymen, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, persons aged 65+. Also, the second dose of the vaccine is guaranteed to people who were vaccinated with residual doses or public figures.
Ukraine has registered 1,334 new cases of COVID-19 and 68 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Health Ministry press service said in a statement on Monday.
“Ukraine registered 1,334 new cases of COVID-19 as of May 24, 2021. In particular, the virus was contracted by 86 children and medical workers. Over the past day, 1,019 persons were hospitalized, 68 died, and 6,999 recovered,” the ministry said on Facebook.
Ukraine recorded 2,533 contagions on May 23, as against 4,606 on May 22.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Ukraine has seen a total of 2,183,855 coronavirus cases, including 49,436 deaths and 1,957,560 recoveries.
Ukraine has passed the peak of the third coronavirus (COVID-19) wave, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.
“The height of infections is now over. We saw nearly 13,500 fewer cases over the past week than we did the week before. The same happened to hospitalizations, which reduced by 3,500,” Stepanov said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.
There are 12 regions in the red zone, the minister said, adding that the situation had been the most difficult in Kyiv (about 75% of hospital beds with oxygen supply are occupied), as well as Kyiv region (70%), Odesa region (73%), Sumy region (69.5%), Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
Ukraine will expedite the vaccination against coronavirus (COVID-19) and administer from 5 million to 7 million vaccine shots per month in summer, Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.
“We are planning to reach the target [from 5 million to 7 million vaccine shots per month] sometime by summer. Yet again, that would require everyone’s compliance with the earlier agreements, and that constitutes a problem,” Stepanov said on the Svoboda Slova program aired by the ICTV television channel on Monday night.
There are few vaccinations on weekends because doctors tasked with administering the vaccine at the first stage have their days off, he said when commenting on the opinion that the vaccination process might take over a decade unless vaccination is expedited.
The minister assured the audience that the number of vaccine shots would grow to 10,000 this week.
Ukraine received $3.7 million from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which will allow purchasing 500,000 antigen tests with full kits of personal protective equipment and 160 oxygen concentrators at the beginning of 2021, according to the Health Ministry’s website.
According to the statement, within the cooperation with the Global Fund in 2021-2023, Ukraine will receive another $135 million, which will be aimed at achieving several strategic goals: ensuring access to timely detection, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and HIV, as well as the introduction of effective models of care oriented on patient.
