Schneider Electric increases transparency of environmental data on products

Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is launching the Environmental Data Program. Building on the legacy of Green Premium labeling, this initiative provides customers with unique access to information about the environmental impact of products, enabling them to make more informed, data-driven decisions and confidently meet new regulatory requirements.

Schneider Electric has been repeatedly recognized as a leader in sustainability, including being named the world’s most sustainable company by Time magazine and Statista in 2024, and ranking first in Corporate Knights’ ranking for the second time in January 2025. This commitment to environmental leadership and growing customer demand for transparency have been the driving forces behind the launch of the new program.

By providing key information such as carbon footprint, energy efficiency, packaging, recycled content, and more, Schneider Electric helps customers choose solutions that meet their sustainability goals and better track, understand, and reduce their own environmental impact.

Schneider Electric now publishes data for 14 environmental characteristics, up from the five previously available under the Green Premium label. This data is available online for 110,000 commercial items. The company plans to expand coverage to 155,000 items by the end of the year, covering 80% of its turnover, compared to the current 70%.

With 2024 officially the hottest year on record, the need for decisive action on the environment and climate has never been clearer. At the same time, research shows that only 7.2% of the global economy is circular. Recent years have been marked by regulatory changes (including the draft EU Directive on environmental claims) that increase transparency and accountability requirements. The data provided under the Environmental Data Program will make it easier for customers to use it for both business and compliance and reporting purposes. Transparency in environmental data is key to both decarbonization and maintaining competitiveness—two strategic goals for the future. Ultimately, it is about enabling better decisions through clearer, more accurate, and more reliable data.

Chris Long, Schneider Electric’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “With over 15 years of experience in product environmental data, we have built a legacy of trust and transparency. Now, with the launch of the Environmental Data Program, we are setting a new standard for the availability and effectiveness of such data. We remain committed to helping our customers and partners make responsible, informed decisions with transparency at the core: use better, use longer, use again.”

Celine Coulibray-Duménil, Director of Sustainability at Rexel, a global leader in electrical distribution, supports the Environmental Data Program: “Providing customers with more transparent and factual product information is a necessity. We support Schneider Electric’s commitment to influencing the industry by promoting greater transparency on product environmental performance.”
