Authorities of Italian Sardinia offer 15 thousand euros for moving to island

The Sardinian authorities are offering to pay people 15,000 euros each to move them to the island. The purpose of such “generosity” is to populate the rural areas of the region.
Who would have thought that an island with turquoise seas and white sandy beaches could face the problem of underpopulation? But many local residents leave small settlements due to lack of work.
To combat the outflow of the rural population, the authorities offer foreigners 15 thousand euros for resettlement on the coast of Sardinia. However, there is a prerequisite for participation in the program – this money must be used to repair a house in one of the settlements with a population of less than 3,000 people. Among such settlements are Galtelli and Calasetta.
“We have created conditions for young people to decide to stay and economically develop the most vulnerable territories,” said Cristian Solinas, head of the autonomous region of Sardinia.
Relocation applicants should note that the scheme is for a permanent move, not a vacation home. Moreover, the grant cannot exceed 50% of the purchase and repair cost. In total, 105 million euros were allocated for the project.
To receive a grant, applicants must register their place of residence in Sardinia, and they must do so within 18 months of arrival.
This is not the first time that the Italian government has offered monetary incentives for settling in rural areas. Earlier this year, a number of villages in the southern region of Calabria offered young people up to 28,000 euros.
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily.

SON OF UKRAINIAN MOTOR SICH’S PRESIDENT BOHUSLAYEV BUYS ISLAND IN ITALY

The son of Motor Sich’s Honorary President Oleksandr Bohuslayev has bought the Gallinara Island in the Ligurian Sea near the Italian Riviera from several owners for more than EUR 10 million.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera’s website, the deal on the acquisition was concluded by the Galinette company from Monaco, belonging to a 42-year-old native of Zaporizhia with Grenada citizenship, Oleksandr Bohuslayev, allegedly the son of PJSC Motor Sich’s honorary president, MP Viacheslav Bohuslayev.
According to the publication, the turtle-shaped island, about 0.5 km long, is located 1.5 kilometers from the coast between the towns of Albenga and Alassio and is a nature reserve closed for tourists. The island was previously owned by wealthy Italian bankers.
“Significant debts to the tax authorities, partners’ economic problems – the sale [of the island] is overdue. Bohuslayev entered into negotiations in May, and on July 17 the deal went through. Ideally, Bohuslayev can now plant a Ukrainian [or Grenada] flag on the top of the turtle island,” the article says.
PJSC Motor Sich is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of aircraft engines, as well as industrial gas turbine plants. The company delivers its products to more than 100 countries worldwide.
Until recently, the largest individual shareholder of PJSC Motor Sich was the company’s Honorary President, MP Viacheslav Bohuslayev, who in 2016 declared the reduction of his stake in Motor Sich from 15.8% to 1%. He also included in the income earned in 2016 the investment income from the securities trader Motor-Dealer owned by PJSC Motor Sich in the amount of about UAH 1.07 billion.
