Ukraine increased imports of nickel ores and concentrate in physical terms by 15.7% in 2020 compared to the previous year, to 1.556 million tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service on Tuesday, in monetary terms, imports of nickel ores grew by 11%, to $75.790 million.
At the same time, the import was from Guatemala (70.05% of supplies in monetary terms) and Indonesia (29.95%).
In 2020, Ukraine did not export or re-export these products, while in 2019 it supplied 7,999 tonnes of nickel ores to Greece for the amount of $312,000.
Ukraine, in January-October this year, increased imports of nickel ores and concentrate in physical terms by 21.6% compared to the same period last year – up to 1,325,721 tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, imports of nickel ores increased by 19.7% – to $65.184 million in monetary terms.
At the same time, the import was carried out from Guatemala (65.17% of supplies in monetary terms) and Indonesia (34.83%).
In January-October-2020, Ukraine did not export or re-export these products, while in the same period of 2019 it supplied 7,999 tonnes of nickel ores to Greece in the amount of $312,000.
Ukraine increased the import of nickel ore and concentrate by 30% in January-August 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, to 1.12 million tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, in monetary terms the import of nickel ore grew by 31.2%, to $55.706 million.
Ukraine did not export and re-export these products in January-August 2020, while the country supplied 7,999 tonnes of nickel ore to Greece for $322,000 in the same period in 2019.

The plant processes about 1.2 million tonnes of ore per year.
The Solway Investment Group international investment group, owning Pobuzhsky Ferronickel Plant (PFP, Kirovohrad region), has stopped supplying nickel ore to Ukraine from Indonesia due to the export ban of this state.
“At the moment, we do not supply ore from Indonesia to Ukraine. The Solway Group is developing two ferronickel projects in Indonesia, and they provide the most modern waste disposal and closed water supply technologies,” the company said in response to a request from Interfax-Ukraine.
At the same time, they said that “regarding PFP, we inform you: the plant is fully provided, operates at full capacity and in the long term there are/are being worked out various options for providing high-quality raw materials.”
PFP processes about 1.5 million tonnes of ore per year, which was previously supplied from Guatemala (about 45% of supplies in monetary terms) and Indonesia (55%).
Indonesia announced the introduction of a ban on the export of nickel ore, first from October 28, 2019, then from January 1, 2020.
Ukraine in January-July 2019 decreased imports of nickel ore and concentrate in natural terms by 15.5% compared to the same period in 2018, to 753,532 tonnes.
According to customs statistics released by the State Fiscal Service, in monetary terms nickel ore imports fell by 15.4%, to $36.866 million.
At the same time, imports were made from Guatemala (50.54% of deliveries in monetary terms), and Indonesia (49.46%).
Through the seven months of 2019, Ukraine exported 7,999 tonnes of nickel ore for $312,000 to Greece, while it did not export and re-export these products over the same period a year ago.

As reported, Ukraine in 2017 reduced imports of nickel ore and concentrate in natural terms by 4.2% compared to 2016, to 1.314 million tonnes, in monetary terms by 8.3%, to $64.172 million. At the same time, all imports were from Guatemala (100% of supplies).
