The Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport in January-October 2018 serviced 2.42 million passengers, which is 56.3% more than a year ago. “November 13, the Kyiv airport serviced the 2.5 millionth passenger since the beginning of 2018… The plans of the airport are to service 2.8 million passengers in 2018,” the airport said in a press release on Wednesday. Passenger flow increased 64.2%, to 1.85 million. According to the report, in October this year, passenger traffic increased 48.6% from October of last year, to 259,100 passengers.
The airport said that 2.35 million passengers were serviced on international flights in January-October of this year, and only 73,000 passengers on domestic flights, including 251,600 and 7,500 respectively in October.
The number of flights increased 32.9% in January-October 2018, to 25,900, of which international ones made up 21,880. In October, the increase in the number of flights was 27%, to 2,720, including 2,270 international flights.
According to the release, the most popular international destinations in January-October 2018 were Minsk (Belarus), Warsaw (Poland), Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Dubai (the United Arab Emirates), Antalya (Turkey), Ankara (Turkey), Rome ( Italy); internal – Odesa, Zaporizhia, and Lviv.
The Zaporizhia international airport in September 2018 saw a 13% fall in passenger flow year-over-year, to 36,000 people.
Director of the airport Viktor Biskupsky told Interfax-Ukraine that along with the seasonal decrease in activity, the reason for the decline in passenger traffic was the annulment of regular flights in Ukraine by Atlasjet Ukraine, the annulment of flights to Batumi and Tel-Aviv by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), and the switch to lower capacity planes by airlines on domestic flights (in particular, by UIA).
At the same time, he said that all domestic flights from Zaporizhia are fully filled.
According to the information on the website of the Zaporizhia International Airport, on domestic flights the decline in passenger traffic was 23% (7,300 people), on international flights – 10.4% (2,400 people).
In general, in January-September-2018, the passenger traffic at the Zaporizhia airport amounted to 297,500 people, almost 19% more than last year. On domestic flights, growth was 12.7% – to almost 71,000, on international flights – by 20.9%, to 226,600.
The number of aircraft departures, according to the airport, amounted to 2,434 and increased by 16.5% over the same period last year.
The Lufthansa Group in January-August 2018 increased passenger flow on flights to/from Ukraine by 14%, to 551,020 passengers, Lufthansa General Manager for Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan Rene Koinzack said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday. “This is a large growth for us. The frequency of flights also increased by 8.5%,” he said.
Koinzack said that today four brands of the Lufthansa Group are servicing four Ukrainian airports.
“A lot of Ukrainians are traveling to Europe, so the passenger flow from Ukraine increased by 26% compared to last year, possibly thanks to the liberalization of the visa regime,” Koinzack said.
According to him, the airline services 91 destinations to/from Ukraine. The most popular destinations are Spain, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Also the interest in flights to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing has increased.
Lufthansa Group in the field of passenger air transportation, along with the same name brand, includes Austrian Airlines, Swiss Airlines, Eurowings (including Germanwings) and Brussels Airlines, as well as a share in Turkey’s SunExpress. In addition, the group includes logistics, technical and service companies.
The Kharkiv international airport in January-July 2018 increased passenger flow by 21%, to 543,300 people, the airport has reported on its website. “The increase in passenger traffic is connected, in particular, with the opening of new destinations – flights to Dortmund, Milan, Tbilisi, Barcelona, Batumi, Rimini and Katowice… Domestic passenger traffic for seven months increased by 16%, international – by 22%,” the airport said.
In January-July, the airport serviced 2,629 flights (9% growth), of which 1,827 were international (20% growth), and 802 domestic flights (a decrease of 10%). The passenger traffic of the Kharkiv airport in July 2018 was 104,500 people, which is 20% more than for the same period in 2017 (87,200). In July, the number of international flights in comparison with July 2017 increased by 17%, to 357. The number of domestic flights decreased from 139 to 129, while the number of passengers on domestic routes increased.
The most popular among the regular destinations from Kharkiv are: Istanbul (Turkish Airlines, Pegasus), Kyiv (UIA), Warsaw (LOT), Tel Aviv (UIA), Dortmund (Wizz Air), Batumi (Yanair, Myway Airlines), Katowice WIzz Air), Minsk (Belavia), Milan (UIA) and Tbilisi (Myway Airlines). The airport expects an increase in the number of flights and total passenger traffic in coming months.
In June 2018, passenger flow of the Kharkiv international airport totaled 114,600 people, which is 38% up year-over-year.
The press service of the airport reported that this is a record breaking figure for the airport – first its monthly passenger flow exceeded 100,000 people.
The most popular destinations in June were Istanbul (Pegasus, Turkish Airlines), Kyiv (UIA), Warsaw (LOT), Tel Aviv (UIA), Dortmund (WizzAir), Minsk (Belavia), Milan (UIA), Batumi (Myway Airlines, Yanair), Katowice (WizzAir), Tbilisi (Myway Airlines) and Lublin (Bravo Airways).
In May 2018, passenger flow of the airport was 88,900, which is 5% more than a year ago (84,400). The share of passengers on international flights was 80%.
Total passenger flow of the airport in January-June 2018 totaled 440,200 people, which is 21% more than a year ago (364,100 people).
Kharkiv airport has a runway 2,500 meters long and 50 meters wide. There are two passenger terminals with the capacity of 100 and 650 people on its territory.

The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport (Zhuliany) plans to boost passenger flow by 55.6% in 2018, to 2.8 million people, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said. “In 2017, the Kyiv airport serviced 1.8 million passengers. In 2018, we plan to service some 2.8 million people who arrive and depart with new facilities,” he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine. Kostrzhevsky also said that new Ukrainian airline SkyUp, which signed a contract on long term cooperation with the airport, in May starts servicing first flights.
“This is a significant event, similar in importance to which Ukraine has not seen for several years. It is really a big Ukrainian airline with ambitious plans. If these plans come true, a good growth in passenger traffic will be ensured,” he said.
The board chairman of the airport said that SkyUp plans to base several aircraft at the Kyiv airport. Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) is located in the business center of the capital, seven km from the city center. It is the second largest airport in Ukraine in terms of the number of flights and passenger traffic. The airport has three terminals with a total area is 21,000 square meters. Terminal B is separate facility for business-class service, it is part of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) system. The airport’s runway is able to handle B-737 and A-320 aircraft.
