UKRAINE PLANS TO BUILD 7.1 GW OF RENEWABLE ENERGY FACILITIES

Ukraine, as part of the post-war reconstruction, aims to build 7.1 GW of renewable energy facilities, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
“Our goal is to build 7.1 GW of new renewable energy capacity, moving to market models of green energy incentives, in particular green auctions. We also plan to install 750 MW of storage capacity in the first stage,” the minister said during an online high-level meeting “Green energy for the reconstruction of post-war Ukraine” (“Renewables to power post-war Ukraine”), organized in Brussels on Monday.
According to him, cited in the release of the Ministry of Energy, green transformation will be at the center of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, and the decarbonization of the energy sector of Ukraine is planned to be carried out, in particular, thanks to the development of safe and carbon-neutral nuclear energy.
“We are considering 10 GW of hydrogen exports from Ukraine to the EU, which the European Commission outlined as our starting figure,” the minister added.
The Solar Energy Association of Ukraine, for its part, announced that as a result of this meeting, it, the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association and relevant European associations WindEurope and SolarPower Europe signed a joint statement to the leaders of Ukraine and the EU calling for the use of renewable energy in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, setting a goal to achieve 50% renewable energy in the production of electricity until 2030 through onshore and offshore wind energy, as well as the development of rooftop and ground solar power plants.
“To achieve these goals, Ukraine and the EU must create a strong and sustainable technological, industrial and investment partnership in order to attract the necessary investments in renewable energy sources, as well as in sustainable and fully synchronized electricity networks. Therefore, we call on the leaders of Ukraine and the EU to create a special tool “Renewable energy for Ukraine” as part of the joint strategic plan for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
As noted in the association, the European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, who also took part in the meeting, reaffirmed the EU’s determination to support Ukraine – both during the war and during the period of reconstruction.

RENEWABLE ENERGY CAPACITY IN UKRAINE STILL INCREASING IN H1

Ukraine in January-June 2021 additionally commissioned 709 MW of new electrical installations based on renewable energy sources (RES), which made it possible to increase the overall capacity of RES generation in the country to 9,225 MW.
According to the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, in particular, in January-June, wind power plants (WPP) with a capacity of 278.4 MW were additionally built, solar power plants (SPP) for 257.4 MW, SPPs of private households – for 156 MW, biomass power plants – for 10.4 MW, biogas power plants – for 6 MW, and small hydropower facilities (HPP) – for 1.6 MW were also commissioned.
“About EUR530 million has been invested in the establishment of 709 MW of renewable energy facilities,” the agency stressed.
Of the total capacity of 9,225 MW of Ukrainian renewable energy sources, the share of solar power plants is 6,351 MW, renewable energy sources – 1,593 MW, household solar power plants – 933 MW, solid biofuel power plants – 119 MW, small hydroelectric power plants – 118 MW and biogas plants – 111 MW.
The largest renewable energy capacity in Ukraine was commissioned in 2019 – some 4,669 MW, while in 2020 – 1,574 MW, in 2018 – 848 MW, in 2017 – 291 MW, in 2016 – 136 MW, in 2015 – 32 MW.

UKRAINE RAISES RENEWABLE ENERGY FACILITIES BY 2.4 TIMES IN Q1, 2018

Ukraine in January-March 2018 commissioned new generating facilities on renewable energy sources with a total installed capacity of 159.4 MW, which is 2.4 times more than in the same period in 2017, the press service of the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) has stated. “The objects of wind power plants and solar power stations account for 97% of the installed capacity,” the report says.
According to the commission, the country in the first quarter commissioned wind farms with a capacity of 47.1 MW, solar plants with a total capacity of 99.5 MW, biomass stations with a capacity of 5.1 MW, biogas plants of 6.2 MW, and small hydroelectric plants of 1.5 MW.
Thus, as of March 27 Ukraine had wind power plants with a total installed capacity of 512.2 MW, solar plants of 841.4 MW, biomass stations of 43.8 MW, biogas plants of 40.6 MW, and small hydroelectric plants with a capacity of 96.1 MW. The total installed capacity of renewable energy sources is 1,534 MW (without taking into account the annexed territory of Crimea, where previously facilities with a total capacity of 494.9 MW were launched).
Today the share of renewable energy sources in electricity production in Ukraine is 1.4%, the share in the total cost of electricity is 5.4%.
