ARCELORMITTAL REDUCES PRODUCTION OF ROLLED GOODS IN UKRAINE

PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) in January-October of this year reduced the output of general rolled products, according to recent data, by 3.8% compared to the same period last year, up to 3.69 million tonnes.
As the representative of the enterprise informed the Interfax-Ukraine agency, steel production during this period decreased by 16.6%, to 3.8 million tonnes, pig iron by 11.3%, to 4 million tonnes. At the same time, sinter production decreased by 11.5% to 7.36 million tonnes.
In October, 320,000 tonnes of rolled metal, 350,000 tonnes of steel, 380,000 tonnes of pig iron, 700,000 tonnes of sinter were produced.
As reported, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih over 2019 increased the output of general rolled products by 11.2% compared to the previous year, to 4.665 million tonnes, steel by 11.8%, to 5.327 million tonnes, pig iron by 14.9%, to 5.310 million tonnes, sinter production increased by 14.3%, to 9.831 million tonnes.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is the largest manufacturer of rolled steel in Ukraine. It specializes in production of long products, in particular, rebar and wire rod.
ArcelorMittal owns the largest mining and metallurgical plant in Ukraine ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and a number of small companies, in particular, PJSC ArcelorMittal Beryslav.

UKRAINE INCREASES ROLLED PRODUCTS OUTPUT BY 3.5% IN Q1

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased the production of total rolled products by 3.5% in January-March 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, to 4.7 million tonnes.
According to a press release of the Ukrmetallurgprom association on Wednesday, April 1, steel production decreased by 3%, to 5.342 million tonnes, pig iron by 2%, to 5.105 million tonnes over three months.
In March, Ukrainian metal enterprises produced 1.560 million tonnes of rolled products (92.1% compared to March 2019), some 1.789 million tonnes of steel (90.9%), some 1.750 million tonnes of pig iron (95.4%).
As reported, Ukraine in January 2020 increased the production of total rolled products by 4% compared to the same period in 2019, to 1.629 million tonnes, but reduced steel production by 2.7%, to 1.8 million tonnes, pig iron by 5, 1%, to 1,698 million tonnes.
According to the results of 2019, the metal enterprises of Ukraine reduced steel production by 1% compared to 2018, to 20.848 million tonnes, production of total rolled products by 1% as well, to 18.387 million tonnes, and iron production fell by 2%, to 20.064 million tonnes.

AZOVSTAL REDUCES PRODUCTION OF ROLLED GOODS BY 5%

Azovstal Iron and Steel Works (Mariupol, Donetsk region) in January-September 2019 reduced production of rolled goods by 5% to 2.883 million tonnes compared to the same period in 2018, according to recent data.
A representative of the company told the Interfax-Ukraine agency steel production decreased by 2.8%, to 3.079 million tonnes, output of pig iron by 10.3%, to 2.623 million tonnes.
In September, Azovstal produced 318,000 tonnes of rolled goods, 345,000 tonnes of steel, and 301,000 tonnes of pig iron.
Azovstal in 2018 kept its rolled stock production at the previous year’s level – 3.879 million tonnes, but reduced steel output by 4%, to 4.082 million tonnes, pig iron by 2%, to 3.707 million tonnes.
The company is part of Metinvest Group, the main shareholders of which are SCM Group (71.24%) and Smart-Holding (23.76%), jointly managing the company.

UKRAINE INTRODUCES 5-YEAR ANTI-DUMPING DUTIES ON SOME KINDS OF ROLLED PRODUCTS

Ukraine’s Interagency Commission on Foreign Trade has introduced 5-year anti-dumping duties on imports of certain kinds of rolled products with anti-corrosive coating from Russia (at 47.57%) and China (22.78%), according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. “In order to defend Ukrainian production of flat rolled products, it has been decided to apply anti-dumping measures with respect to imports of goods made in Russia and China to Ukraine for a period of five years,” the ministry said.
In addition, the commission extended its special measures with respect to imports of flexible, porous polyurethane foam, irrespective of the country of origin. According to the ministry, the duty on these goods will be 11.22% when the decision takes force, 10.66% after 12 months, and 10.13% after 24 months.

UKRAINE INCREASES STEEL AND ROLLED STEEL OUTPUT IN JAN-JULY

Ukrainian metal and mining enterprises in January-July 2018 tentatively increased rolled steel output by 4% year-over-year, to 10.636 million tonnes. According to the Ukrmetallurgprom association, steel smelting grew by 1%, to 11.99 million tonnes, and cast iron output increased by 7%, to 11.75 million tonnes.
The production figures of enterprises in January-July 2018 were higher in comparison with the same period in 2017 not taking into account two months of work of the enterprises in the Ukrainian government’s uncontrolled area: rolled steel output grew by 9%, steel – by 5%, and cast iron – by 12%.
In July 2018, Ukrainian metal companies produced 1.598 million tonnes of cast iron (98% to the previous month), 1.599 million tonnes of steel (93%), and 1.375 million tonnes of rolled steel (90%).
“The reduction in production of key types of products is linked to overhauls and scheduled maintenance works at some plant,” the association said.
As reported, Ukrainian metal and mining enterprises in 2017, taking into account the two months of operation of the enterprises on the government uncontrolled areas, reduced steel output by 12% year-over-year, to 21.284 million tonnes, rolled steel – by 14%, to 18.439 million tonnes, and cast iron – by 15%, to 20.035 million tonnes,
In 2016, Ukraine boosted steel output by 6% year-over-year, to 24.2 million tonnes, cast iron – by 8%, to 23.6 million tonnes, and rolled steel – by 6%, to 21.4 million tonnes.
