Enterprises for operations with ferrous scrap in January-June of this year reduced scrap metal procurement by 25.2% compared to the same period last year – up to 531 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (“UAVtormet”) on Wednesday, the export of scrap metal for the period amounted to 92 thousand tons compared to 28.7 thousand tons in January-June-2022 (growth in 3.2 times). At the same time, import of scrap amounted to 0.5 thousand tons, while in the first six months of last year it amounted to 1.6 thousand tons.
Scrap deliveries to the country’s steel enterprises in January-June 2023 decreased by 37.2% compared to January-June 2022 – to 413.8 thousand tons from 659.4 thousand tons.
As of July 1, 2023, the level of scrap metal stocks at Ukrainian metal enterprises was estimated at 15-20 thousand tons.
As reported, Ukraine in 2022 reduced scrap procurement by 75.9% compared to 2021 – to 996.7 thousand tons from 4.136 million tons. Scrap metal exports last year amounted to 53.6 thousand tons, which is 11.5 times less compared to the previous year (615.7 thousand tons). At the same time, scrap imports amounted to 1.8 thousand tons (23 thousand tons in 2021).
Scrap deliveries to the country’s metal enterprises in 2022 decreased by 73% compared to 2021 – to 895.7 thousand tons from 3 million 323.4 thousand tons.
“UAVtormet” forecasts in 2023 the procurement of ferrous scrap in the amount of 1.2-1.25 million tons. In addition, scrap deliveries to the country’s metal enterprises are forecast to amount to 950-1000 thousand tons. Export of scrap metal is expected to amount to 180-200 thousand tons, import – 0.2-0.5 thousand tons. Steel output is expected to be 4.8-5.2 million tons.
Enterprises on operations with scrap ferrous metals in January-April this year reduced the procurement of scrap by 40.9% compared to the same period last year, to 366.6 thousand tons from 620.1 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), the export of scrap metal during this period amounted to 56.4 thousand tons compared to 7.1 thousand tons in January-April 2022 (an increase of 8 times). In this case, the import of scrap amounted to 0.06 thousand tons, compared to 0.1 thousand tons in the first four months of last year.
Scrap shipments to the country’s metal companies in January-April 2023 decreased by 49.8% compared to January-April 2022 – to 292.8 thousand tons from 583.5 thousand tons.
As of May 1, 2023, the level of scrap metal stock at Ukrainian metal companies was estimated at 20-25 thousand tons.
As reported, scrap metal companies in the first quarter of 2023 decreased steel procurement in 2.5 times compared to the same period last year – up to 222.6 thousand tons, while the export of scrap metal was 40.3 thousand tons (an increase of 5.7 times). Thus, the backlog of scrap procurement in relative terms is reduced, while the export of strategic raw materials for steelmakers from Ukraine is increasing.

Scrap exports are expected to amount to 100-120 thousand tons, and imports – 1.5-3 thousand tons. Steel output in 2023 will be 4.8-5.2 million tons.
The enterprises on operations with scrap ferrous metals in January-February this year, reduced the procurement of scrap metal by 70.7% compared to the same period last year – to 152.2 thousand tons from 520.4 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet) on Friday, the export of scrap metal during this period amounted to 24.8 thousand tons compared to 7.1 thousand tons in January-February 2022 (an increase of 3.5 times). In this case, the import of scrap was 0.04 thousand tons, whereas in the first two months of last year it was 0.1 thousand tons.
Scrap supplies to the country’s metal companies in January-February 2023 decreased by 75.3% compared to January-February 2022 – to 120.2 thousand tons from 488.5 thousand tons.
As of March 1, 2023, the level of scrap metal stock at metal companies in Ukraine was estimated at 15-20 thousand tons.

In January this year, scrap metal dealers reduced scrap procurement by 75.6% compared to the same period last year to 60.5 thousand tons from 248.1 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet) on Friday, the export of scrap metal during this period amounted to 8.3 thousand tons compared to 5.8 thousand tons in January 2022 (an increase of 43.1%). At the same time, there were no imports of scrap, while in the first month of last year it was 0.1 thousand tons.

In January-November this year, enterprises on operations with scrap ferrous metals reduced the procurement of scrap metal by 76.6% compared to the same period last year – to 886.1 thousand tons from 3 million 783.6 thousand tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), the export of scrap metal during this period amounted to 42 thousand tons, which is 13 times less compared to 11M2021 (547.5 thousand tons). In this case, the import of scrap was 2.3 thousand tons, compared to 21.3 thousand tons in January-November 2021.
Scrap shipments to the country’s metal companies in 11M-2022 decreased by 72.4% compared to January-November-2021 – to 841.9 thousand tons from 3 million 55.9 thousand tons.
As of December 1, 2022, the level of scrap metal stock at Ukrainian steel mills was estimated at 30-35 thousand tons.
