Following the results of the work of metallurgical enterprises in June 2021, Ukraine increased steel production by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2020, to 1.870 million tonnes, remaining in the 14th place in the ranking of 64 countries – the main world producers of these products compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
In June, an increase in steel production versus June 2020 was recorded in all countries of the top ten.
The top ten steel-producing countries in June 2021 was as follows: China (93.880 million tonnes, an increase of 1.5% compared to June 2020), India (9.362 million tonnes, an increase of 21.4%), Japan (8.108 million tonnes, an increase of 44.4%), the United States (7.144 million tonnes, an increase of 44.4%), Russia (6.350 million tonnes, an increase of 11.4%), South Korea (5.969 million tonnes, a rise of 17.3%), Germany (3.421 million tonnes, an increase of 38.2%), Turkey (3.355 million tonnes, an increase of 17.9%), Brazil (3.120 million tonnes, an increase of 45.2%) and Iran (2.470 million tonnes, an increase of 1.9%).
They are followed by Italy (2.179 million tonnes, an increase of 20.1%), Vietnam (1.970 million tonnes, an increase of 42.8%), Taiwan (PRC, 1.875 million tonnes, an increase of 11.2%), Ukraine (1.870 million tonnes). tonnes, an increase of 3.4%) and Mexico (1.640 million tonnes, a rise of 48.1%).
In general, in June this year, steel production grew by 11.6% compared to the same period last year, to 167.920 million tonnes.
In general, in H1 2021, 64 countries produced 1.004 billion tonnes of steel, which is 14.4% more than in the same period last year.
Ukraine, following the results of work of metallurgical enterprises in May 2021, increased steel production by 13% compared to the same period in 2020, to 1.851 million tonnes, taking 14th place in the ranking of 64 countries-major global producers of these products, compiled by World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
In May, an increase in steel production was recorded in all countries of the top ten.
The top ten steel producing countries in May 2021 are as follows: China (99.450 million tonnes, an increase of 6.6% compared to May 2020), India (9.2 million tonnes, an increase of 46.9%), Japan (8.422 million tonnes, an increase of 42.2%), the United States (7.249 million tonnes, an increase of 47.6%), Russia (6.560 million tonnes, an increase of 14%), South Korea (5.950 million tonnes, plus 10.5%), Germany (3.475 million tonnes, an increase of 35.5%), Turkey (3.235 million tonnes, an increase of 42.4%), Brazil (3.160 million tonnes, an increase of 40.1%) and Iran (2.550 million tonnes, an increase of 7.7%).
This is followed by Italy (2.210 million tonnes, an increase of 18.8%), Taiwan (China, 2 million tonnes, an increase of 13.5%), Vietnam (1.945 million tonnes, an increase of 48.5%), Ukraine (1.851 million tonnes, an increase of 13%) and Mexico (1.670 million tonnes, plus 44.7%).
In general, in May of this year, steel production increased by 16.5% compared to the same period last year, to 174.376 million tonnes.
For the five months of this year, the top ten steel producing countries looks like this: China (473.1 million tonnes, an increase of 13.9%), India (48.609 million tonnes, an increase of 33.6%), Japan (39.951 million tonnes, an increase of 9.1%), the United States (34.773 million tonnes, plus 10.6%), Russia (31.865 million tonnes, an increase of 7.9%), South Korea (29.297 million tonnes, an increase of 6.9% ), Germany (17.013 million tonnes, an increase of 13.6%), Turkey (16.350 million tonnes, an increase of 21.2%), Brazil (14.942 million tonnes, an increase of 20.3%) and Iran (12.520 million tonnes, an increase of 9.2%).
This is followed by Italy (10.559 million tonnes, an increase of 27.3%), Taiwan (China, 9.614 million tonnes, an increase of 6.4%), Ukraine (8.987 million tonnes, plus 8.3%), Vietnam (8.855 million tonnes, an increase of 41.3%) and Mexico (7.754 million tonnes, plus 10.6%).
In total, 64 countries produced 837.473 million tonnes of steel in the five months of 2021, which is 14.5% more than in the same period last year.
Electric steelmaking complex Interpipe Steel of international vertically integrated pipe and wheel company Interpipe (Dnipro) in January-April of this year increased steel production, according to recent data, by 3.9% compared to the same period last year, to 283,000 tonnes.
As the company told Interfax-Ukraine, 90,000 tonnes of steel were produced in April, while in the previous month – 79,500 tonnes.
In 2020, the company reduced steel production by 11.2% compared to 2019, to 758,700 tonnes.
Interpipe is a Ukrainian industrial company, a manufacturer of seamless pipes and railway wheels. The company’s products are supplied to more than 80 countries all over the world through a chain of commercial offices located in the CIS, Europe, the United States and the Middle East.
PJSC Energomashspetsstal (Kramatorsk, Donetsk region), owned by Russia’s Atomenergomash (Rosatom state corporation), in January-April of this year reduced steel production by 13.6% compared to the same period last year, to 19,000 tonnes.
A source in the industry told Interfax-Ukraine that 5,000 tonnes of steel were produced in April.
As reported, Energomashspetsstal in 2020 increased steel production by 6.8% compared to the previous year, to 63,000 tonnes.
Energomashspetsstal is the largest Ukrainian manufacturer of special cast and forged products of individual and small-scale production for metallurgy, shipbuilding, energy (wind, steam, hydro, nuclear) and general mechanical engineering.
Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises in January-April this year have increased the production of general rolled products, according to operational data, by 7.4% compared to the same period last year – up to 6.414 million tonnes.
In the first four months of the year steel production has increased by 7.2% – up to 7.138 million tonnes, pig iron – by 9.1% – up to 7.075 million tonnes, the association Ukrmetalurgprom said on Thursday.
In April, 1.680 million tonnes of rolled products, 1.847 million tonnes of steel, 1.762 million tonnes of pig iron were produced, while in the previous month – 1.575 million tonnes of rolled products, 1.779 million tonnes of steel, and 1.805 million tonnes of pig iron.
Electrometallurgical plant Dniprospetsstal (Zaporizhia) in January-April this year increased the output of finished rolled products, according to operational data, by 19.1% compared to the same period last year – up to 56,000 tonnes.
Steel production during this period increased by 13.4% – up to 76,000 tonnes, the enterprise told Interfax-Ukraine.
In April, 21,000 tonnes of steel were smelted; 14,000 tonnes of rolled products were produced.
As reported, Dniprospetsstal in 2020 increased the output of finished rolled products by 1.3% compared to 2019, to 154,000 tonnes, steel by 2.7%, to 225,000 tonnes.
Dniprospetsstal is the only Ukrainian manufacturer of long products and forgings from special grades of steel: stainless, tool, high-speed, bearing, structural, as well as from heat-resistant nickel-based alloys.
