As of August 30, three factories in Vinnytsia, Ternopil, and Lviv regions started sugar beet processing in Ukraine, while the launch of the remaining factories is delayed due to the later harvesting of sugar beets, the industry association Ukrtsukor reports.
“In general, the expectations of a massive early launch of factories this year were not met due to dry weather conditions that complicate the harvesting of sugar beet. A number of plants have postponed the start of processing to a later date,” the business association explained.
According to the industry association, sugar beet has been harvested from 1.2 thousand hectares. The average yield is 50 t/ha, including 35 t/ha in Vinnytsia region, 44 t/ha in Poltava region, 58 t/ha in Ternopil region and 70 t/ha in Lviv region.
As of the same date last year, 2 sugar plants in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions started processing beets in Ukraine, Ukrtsukr said.
As of October 5, sugar production in Ukraine amounted to 240,200 tonnes, and in general, 1.89 million tonnes of sugar beet were processed, according to a report on the website of the National Association of Sugar Producers Ukrtsukor.
Thus, to date, sugar beet is being processed by 25 out of 33 refineries that have planned to produce sugar in the current marketing year (September-August).
According to the data on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of October 4, Ukrainian farmers harvested 2.26 million tonnes of sugar beet (20.8% of the forecast) with a yield of 47.96 tonnes per ha.
As reported, the current season of sugar beet processing in the country started on August 21.
Sugar production in Ukraine as of September 20 amounted to 74,900 tonnes. According to a report on the website of the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers, in total, 629,800 tonnes of sugar beet had been processed.
According to the data on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of September 16, Ukrainian agrarians harvested 506,300 tonnes of sugar beet (4.7% of the forecast) with a yield of 47.72 tonnes per ha.
