Tin imports up 17% in 2024

In 2024, imports of tin and tin products increased by 16.9% to $3.188 million (in December – $338 thousand). Exports of tin amounted to $389 thousand, compared to $159 thousand in 2023, with no exports in December.

Tin is used mainly as a safe, non-toxic, corrosion-resistant coating in its pure form or in alloys with other metals. The main industrial applications of tin are in white tinplate (tinned iron) for food containers, in solders for electronics, in house pipelines, in bearing alloys, and in coatings made of tin and its alloys. The most important tin alloy is bronze (with copper).

Ukraine increased tin imports by 18% in January-November

In January-November 2024, Ukraine increased imports of tin and tin products by 17.8% to $2.850 million. Exports of tin during this period increased almost fivefold to $389 thousand, compared to $79 thousand in the same period in 2023. In November, tin imports amounted to $203 thousand, while exports amounted to $40 thousand.

Ukrainian enterprises increased imports of tin and tin products by 15.9% to $2.647 million in January-October this year ($561 thousand in October).
Exports of tin and tin products amounted to $349 thousand (in October – $3 thousand) against $57 thousand in the same period a year earlier. At the same time, imports of tin and tin products decreased by 23% to $2.728 million.

In January-September this year, Ukrainian enterprises increased imports of tin and tin products by 1.7% to $2.086 million ($244 thousand in September). Exports of tin and tin products amounted to $346 thousand (in September – $2 thousand) against $57 thousand in the same period a year earlier.

Ukraine increased imports of zinc and tin in January-June

According to the customs authorities, in January-June this year, Ukrainian companies increased imports of tin by 19.5% to $1.350 million ($330 thousand in June) and increased imports of zinc and zinc products by 37.4% to $28.340 million ($5.110 million in June).

Ukraine in January-April reduced imports of lead, but increased imports of tin

According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Friday, Ukraine reduced imports of lead and lead products by 13.8% – to $406 thousand (in April – $124 thousand), imports of tin and tin products increased by 10.2% – to $887 thousand (in April – $267 thousand). Exports of lead and lead products decreased by 35.3% to $3.537 mln.
As reported, Ukraine in 2023 reduced imports of lead and lead products by 65.2% – to $989 thousand, imports of tin and tin products – by 23% – to $2.728 million. Exports of tin and tin products amounted to $159 thousand against $424 thousand for 2022.
Zinc exports for 2022 totaled $1.331 million, compared to $550 thousand in 2021. Exports of tin and products totaled $424 thousand in 2022, compared to $346 thousand the previous year.
Lead is used to make bullets and shot. It is part of many alloys, such as bearing alloys, printing alloy, tin-lead solder, bronzes and brasses. .
Tin is often used as a protective coating due to these properties. It is the main constituent of solder and babbitts, typographic alloys and bronzes.
