Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) in 2020 posted a loss of UAH 4.518 billion against UAH 1.649 billion of profit in 2019.
According to the company’s statement in the information disclosure system of the National Securities and Stock Market Commission on the annual meeting of shareholders on May 28, UIA assets at the end of last year decreased by 1.6 times, to UAH 9.226 billion, and uncovered loss increased by 1.6 times, to UAH 11.6 billion.
Total debtor indebtedness increased to UAH 1.619 billion against UAH 969 million in 2019, long-term liabilities decreased by 28.3%, to UAH 7.4 billion, current liabilities increased by 15.3%, to UAH 13.2 billion.
Earlier, UIA stated that in just three months of the spring lockdown in 2020 and the complete suspension of regular flights, the company incurred losses in the amount of about $ 60 million.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) from March 1 will resume a number of flights that were canceled due to quarantine restrictions, and will increase the frequency of flights on the most popular routes.
According to the press service of UIA, in particular, in early March it is planned to resume flights from Kyiv to Geneva and Prague, at the end of March – from Kyiv to Larnaca, Vilnius, Barcelona and Chisinau.
In addition, communication between Odesa and Istanbul will be resumed.
The company plans to increase the frequency of flights on the Kyiv-Dubai route (to six flights a week), and from May – to Istanbul (to 21 per week).
Additionally, UIA will operate flights on the following routes: Kyiv-Delhi (February 25, March 5, March 13 and March 18) and Kyiv-Tashkent (February 28, March 10, March 21 and March 31, return flight the next day).
In March, it is also planned to increase the frequency of flights to daily (seven times a week) on routes from Kyiv to Amsterdam, Paris, Milan, Tbilisi, Yerevan and Tel Aviv. At the same time, with the beginning of summer navigation on flights to Tel Aviv, it is planned to increase the frequency to 11 flights, from May – to 14.
As reported, UIA plans a gradual long-term restoration of the original route network in 2021. In particular, from the beginning of the 2021 summer season, it is planned to launch flights on 43 international and seven domestic routes, which will restore full-fledged air traffic from the regions of Ukraine with numerous European countries through the hub at Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv).
Starting from April 2021, UIA plans to restore its own route network by 64% of the 2019 volume.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plans to resume flights to Tbilisi from January 31, and SkyUp Airlines from February 4, 2021.
Currently, there are no direct flights between the capitals of Ukraine and Georgia, Georgia plans to remove restrictions on international scheduled flights from February 1, 2021.
As noted in the UIA message on Thursday, after the official lifting of restrictions on air travel by the Georgian authorities, communication with Tbilisi by UIA flights will be possible twice a week: on Fridays and Sundays, with a return to Kyiv every Saturday and Monday.
In the future, from March 1, 2021, UIA expects to increase the number of flights in this direction to four flights per week.
SkyUp Airlines plans to launch flights Kyiv-Tbilisi from February 4 and Kyiv-Batumi from February 9.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) has warned about possible changes in the UIA PS 777/778 flight schedules due to the decision of the Israeli government to close Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv effective from January 26 to January 31 as part of the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
The press service of the airline said on Monday, given the demand among passengers, the airline decided to launch an additional flight Kyiv – Tel Aviv – Kyiv. The flight will be available in the system immediately after receiving the slots.
“Passengers are kindly requested to follow the flight schedule on the KBP and TLV airport websites,” the airline said.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv) is ready to transport vaccines.
“Since the beginning of 2021, the active stage of vaccination has begun all over the world, which will tend to increase throughout the current year. In order to ensure safe delivery of vaccines, UIA has prepared Boeing 737 and Boeing 767 aircraft to transport the vaccines as cargo,” the press service of UIA said on Monday.
The airline also expressed its readiness to transport the vaccine not only to Ukraine, but all over the world. At the same time, it is noted that given the peculiarities of compliance with the required temperature regimes, transportation of the vaccine by air is the fastest and most reliable method of delivery.
According to the company, since the implementation of quarantine measures, UIA has transported 870 tonnes of medical cargo.
According to preliminary results, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) carried 1.787 million passengers from January to December 2020, which is four times less than the result for 2019 (about 8 million passengers).
The press service of the company reported that during the specified period, UIA operated about 17,000 regular and code-share flights, which is 72% less compared to the same indicator for 2019. The percentage of transit passengers amounted to 43% of the total traffic (486,000 passengers, 86% less).
The company also noted that in 2020 it transported more than 4,800 tonnes of cargo (15,000 tonnes in 2019) and 1,350 tonnes of mail (4,400 tonnes in 2019).
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and government decisions to ban flights, the airline was forced to cancel thousands of flights and, as a result, the airline received thousands of requests for refunds. In the period from April to November 2020, some 85,861 passenger requests and returns in the amount of almost $ 22 million were processed. By this time, about 56,000 unprocessed applications for refunds were recorded. UIA employees carefully record each appeal and process them in turn,” UIA added.
The airline noted that during the lockdown, UIA optimized its work: it reduced its expenditures by three times, optimized its fleet and proportionally cut its staff by about 1,000 people.
