The US Embassy in Kyiv called on American citizens to leave Ukraine in connection with Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure.
“Continued Russian strikes on Ukraine pose a direct threat to civilians and civilian infrastructure. The Embassy urges US citizens to take shelter in place and leave Ukraine now using private ground transportation options when it is safe to do so,” the embassy said on Twitter.
The US Embassy in Ukraine called on the citizens of this country not to enter Ukraine, and those who are in Ukraine to leave the country immediately.
“The security situation across Ukraine remains brutal and unpredictable due to ongoing military attacks from Russia, active hostilities in the country, and uncertain security conditions. The US Embassy urges US citizens not to enter Ukraine, and those in Ukraine immediately leave the country using privately available ground transportation options if it is safe to do so,” the embassy’s website said in a statement.
The embassy also urged “to avoid mass gatherings and organized events, as they can become a target for the Russian military anywhere in Ukraine, including its western regions.”
Representatives of the US Embassy in Ukraine are preparing to return and resume work in Kyiv.
“It’s great to be back! Today, members of the Embassy team traveled to Lviv to meet with key partners, including the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. This visit was the first step towards more regular travel in the near future. Preparations are underway to resume work in Kyiv as soon as possible,” it said. in a tweet from the US Embassy on Wednesday night.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Monday that the US embassy in Kyiv could resume work in the next “couple of weeks.”
“As for the embassy, next week our diplomats will return to Ukraine, then we will begin the process of considering the opening of the embassy itself in Kyiv,” Blinken told reporters in Poland after a visit to Ukraine.
“I think it will happen within a couple of weeks,” he added, broadcasting the briefing was led by NBC News.
The US Secretary of State pointed out that Washington is acting “carefully” on this issue, and ensuring the safety of American diplomatic personnel remains a priority.
