Over the past day, June 8, some 53,161 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Ukraine, the total number of immunized people was 1,328,070, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reports.
“Some 53,161 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 per day on June 8, 2021. A total of 43,925 people received one dose, 9,236 people were fully immunized,” the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine said on Wednesday morning.
The department said that 485 mobile teams and 624 vaccination points worked during the day.
“As of June 9, 2021, some 659,473 people signed up for the COVID-19 vaccination waiting list,” it reported.
Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign 1,328,070 people have been vaccinated, of which 1,328,068 people received one dose, some 161,378 people were fully immunized and received two doses (two of them received one dose abroad). A total of 1,489,446 vaccinations were carried out.
Mass vaccination centers, which will be located in Brovary and Bila Tserkva, will start working in Kyiv region next weekend, the press service of the Kyiv regional state administration reported on Tuesday.
It is said that vaccination centers will work on weekends. The citizens who are on the waiting list for vaccination against COVID-19 in the Diia application, on the Diia website or through the contact center of the Ministry of Health, will be able to receive vaccinations there.
“Only those people, were previously invited for vaccination by a phone call, will be vaccinated. Priority will be given to the elderly,” the message says.
It is reported that vaccination in such centers will take place in compliance with all sanitary and anti-epidemic requirements.
To do this, they provide separate places for entering data, conducting vaccinations and waiting after vaccination.
As reported, over the past weekend, in 14 vaccination centers opened in Odesa, Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Dnipro, Poltava, Rivne, Izmail, Kremenchuk, Lubny, Myrhorod and Horishni Plavni, 15,025 people were vaccinated against COVID-19.
The introduction of COVID-19 vaccination passports in Ukraine is supported by just over a quarter (27%) of citizens, and not supported by a third (34%), according to a survey by Research & Branding Group conducted on April 23-30.
At the same time, another 30% of the country’s residents are indifferent to the introduction of “vaccination passports” and 9% have not decided.
The highest level of support for the introduction of a “vaccination passport” is noted among residents of the western region and young people under 30, and the lowest – among residents of the southern region and the age group over 60, among whom are most of those who are indifferent to the issue.
At the same time, 44% of Ukrainians consider the use of a “vaccination passport” for travel abroad justified, while 4% and 3% of respondents consider the use of a “vaccination passport” for public events and trips in Ukraine justified, respectively. At the same time, 16% of Ukrainians justify the use of a “vaccination passport” in all aspects of everyday life, and 3% consider it completely unnecessary.
Most of those who consider it justified to use a “vaccination passport” primarily for foreign travel are among residents of regional centers, and least of all – among representatives of the age of 60 and over and rural residents. In comparison, residents of the eastern region are more likely to consider the “vaccination passport” for travel across Ukraine to be justified. The majority of 50-year-old Ukrainians advocate the use of the “vaccination passport” in all aspects of everyday life.
The survey was conducted by the method of personal formalized interview (face-to-face) among 1,804 respondents over 18 years old in all regions controlled by the government. The sample represents the population of Ukraine by gender, age, type of settlement and region of residence. The maximum error does not exceed 2.4%.
The World Bank has approved a new $90 million project to scale-up Ukraine’s health sector response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, Ukraine Emergency COVID-19 Response and Vaccination, will provide reimbursement of expenditures to the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) for vaccination of about 10 million people.
“The World Bank has approved a new $90 million project to scale-up Ukraine’s health sector response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, Ukraine Emergency COVID-19 Response and Vaccination, will support the rollout of COVID-19 vaccination to priority groups among the population and strengthen the capacity of Ukraine’s health care sector to prevent, detect, and respond to the impacts of the pandemic,” the World Bank said on Tuesday.
“The project aims to help the country not only procure COVID-19 vaccines, but also improve the infrastructure for vaccine storage and logistics: this includes organizing service delivery, cost reimbursement for vaccine providers, expanding testing capacity, strengthening the IT system, and carrying out a vaccination public awareness campaign,” the World Bank said.
World Bank Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe Arup Banerji said that the project is to accelerate the pace of vaccination, while keeping a focus on people with a high risk of getting infected and those most likely to develop COVID-related complications.
The introduction of vaccination passports, which would be mandatory for international travel, is not a close prospect, head of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis, Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fedir Lapiy said.
“Most likely, vaccination passports will not be introduced in the first half of 2021. This issue is only being discussed at the level of Europe, the United States and other countries, because apart from Israel and the Emirates, very few people are covered by widespread vaccination. Speaking about the United States, Germany, Great Britain and other countries, many people have not been vaccinated yet, so these are only discussions for now. This is not a very close prospect in fact,” he said during the online event entitled “Vaccination brings us closer,” dedicated to the current situation on vaccination in Ukraine, held with the support of the GSK Ukraine company on Tuesday.
Lapiy predicts that a decision at the level of individual states or at the global level regarding the so-called vaccination passports will not be made in the first half of 2021.
At the same time, he noted that at present in Ukraine, everyone who is currently being vaccinated against COVID-19 is entered into the electronic database.
“Ukraine is negotiating on the recognition of these electronic databases,” he said.
In turn, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Services and Medicines of the National Health Service of Ukraine Hanna Fenchak, noted that the National Health Service of Ukraine is currently studying the possibility of combining information on vaccination from the e-health system with international databases.
“We are studying WHO’s requirements for the information that is downloaded from our unified e-health database to be accepted in other countries of the world,” she said.
Vaccination against COVID-19 with the vaccine produced by Pfizer/BioNTech (trade name Comirnaty) will begin from Kyiv region on April 18, its starts throughout Ukraine on April 19, said chief sanitary doctor, Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.
“This vaccine will first of all be used to vaccinate personnel and residents of nursing homes, then employees of the State Emergency Service and border guards,” he told Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.
Liashko explained that the vaccines will be distributed in 1,170 doses in each of the regions and the city of Kyiv. Together with them, dilution bank, syringes and boxes for the safe disposal of medical waste will be delivered.
