Erdogan ready to organize summit of leaders of Ukraine, US, Russia, and Turkey – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the parties discussed the current diplomatic situation and the opportunities it opens up.

“President Erdogan confirmed his country’s readiness to organize a summit between the leaders of Ukraine, the US, Russia, and Turkey,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.

According to him, Erdogan said that any negotiations without Ukraine would not bring stable peace.

“We all understand the risks and threats equally. A fake, rather than honest, peace will certainly not last long and will encourage Russia to seize even more territory. I noted that we are ready for any format of meeting in order to stop the killings and end the war,” the Ukrainian president added.

The parties also discussed high-level events that Ukraine is preparing during the UN General Assembly and Turkey’s participation in them.

According to the Turkish Presidency’s Twitter page, during the conversation, which took place at the request of the Ukrainian side, bilateral relations between Turkey and Ukraine, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

“Recognizing the valuable progress achieved in direct talks in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia, President Erdogan expressed his hope that the next rounds of talks would yield meaningful results for a ceasefire on the path to lasting peace. Noting that Turkey is ready to host a summit at the leadership level, President Erdogan expressed his conviction that the establishment of working groups in the military, humanitarian, and political spheres will pave the way for the summit,” the statement said.

Erdogan also stressed that Turkey continues to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As reported, last Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that his meeting with Vladimir Putin would take place on August 15 in Alaska.

Zelensky signed law on Ukrainian citizens deported from Poland in 1944-1951

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law recognizing Ukrainian citizens who were forcibly resettled from the territory of the Polish People’s Republic in 1944-1951 as deportees. The relevant law card No. 4540-IX with the signature of the President of Ukraine has been published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga noted that this law restores historical justice regarding this “horrible crime.”

“President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has just signed an important law restoring the memory of Ukrainians forcibly deported from Poland in 1944-1951. This is a correct and dignified step that restores historical justice regarding this horrific crime. I thank the president for supporting this decision, as well as the members of parliament who developed and implemented it,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The minister noted that “many witnesses of those tragic events have already passed away,” but in order to protect the rights of “those who still live with us and their descendants,” Ukraine guarantees the provision of assistance as provided by law.

Zelensky wants to replace prime minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Monday and offered her the position of prime minister and asked her to significantly revamp the government.

“I had a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. There was a report on the implementation of agreements with European and American partners on support for Ukraine, which were reached at the recent conference on Ukraine’s recovery. We must implement as quickly as possible everything that can support the stability of our state and society,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Monday.

According to him, during the meeting with Svyrydenko, they discussed “specific measures that could strengthen Ukraine’s economic potential, expand support programs for Ukrainians, and scale up our own weapons production.”

The president noted that to this end, we are beginning to transform the executive branch in Ukraine. “I have offered Yulia Svyrydenko to head the Ukrainian government and significantly revamp its work. I look forward to the new government’s action plan in the near future,” he wrote.

Zelensky expects Rada to quickly consider bills on multiple citizenship

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted the importance of productive meetings of the Verkhovna Rada next week in his evening address on Saturday.
“A law on multiple citizenship has already been passed, and this is an important issue, particularly for those who are fighting for Ukraine. I am eagerly awaiting the unblocking of this law so that it can be signed without delay,” the head of state said.
He also said that two significant decisions on international agreements had been prepared: “First of all, the agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Russian Aggression must be ratified, and it is also worth supporting our country’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention on Landmines. Russia has never been a party to this convention and actively uses all types of mines. We in Ukraine need parity in defense — in particular, the political and legal foundations for such parity,” Zelensky explained.
In addition, “a bill on a military ombudsman has already been prepared for its second reading, and this new systemic step is necessary to implement the necessary changes in the army. I will be grateful to the people’s deputies who support these and other decisions that are extremely important for our state this week,” Zelensky added.
