President of Finland may join Zelensky for meeting with Trump

Finnish President Alexander Stubb is likely to join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a meeting with US President Donald Trump, according to the Politico news website, citing unnamed diplomats and a source familiar with the matter.

“According to two European diplomats and a person familiar with the matter, there are plans to send at least one of Trump’s favorite interlocutors, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, along with Zelensky when he arrives in Washington on Monday for a meeting with Trump. The idea is that Stubb can help prevent any conflicts between Trump and Zelensky and convince the US president to include Europe in any further negotiations,” Politico writes.

“President Donald Trump’s friendly attitude toward Vladimir Putin on Friday has raised concerns among European leaders that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not receive the same warm welcome. And they are taking steps to improve Kiev’s chances,” the publication notes.

As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to discuss all the details of ending the war with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, August 18.

Zelensky to meet with Trump on Monday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to discuss all details regarding the end of the war with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, August 18.

“I intend to discuss all details regarding the end of the killings and the end of the war with President Trump in Washington on Monday.

I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Saturday after a telephone conversation with Trump.

The president said that the long and substantive conversation with the American leader was first one-on-one and then also with the participation of European leaders. In total, the leaders spoke for more than an hour and a half, about an hour with Trump.

“Ukraine once again confirms that it is ready to work as productively as possible for peace. President Trump informed me about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of the conversation. It is important that America’s strength influences the development of the situation,” Zelensky said.

He noted that Ukraine supports Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia.

“Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the leadership level, and the trilateral format is suitable for this,” the Ukrainian president added.

He also stressed the importance of involving Europe at all stages to ensure reliable security together with the US.

The leaders discussed positive signals from the US side regarding participation in ensuring Ukraine’s security.

“We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” the president concluded.

US is considering trilateral summit between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky

The White House is looking for a venue for a possible meeting at the end of next week, where the US, Russia, and Ukraine could discuss resolving the conflict — with Ukraine actively demanding its participation in any negotiations.

CBS News representatives confirm that the US administration is looking for a venue for a meeting between Presidents Trump, Putin, and Zelensky, which could take place as early as next week.

The summit between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska, which the US administration is calling a fact-finding meeting, with no clear promises to end the conflict.

Erdogan ready to organize summit of leaders of Ukraine, US, Russia, and Turkey – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the parties discussed the current diplomatic situation and the opportunities it opens up.

“President Erdogan confirmed his country’s readiness to organize a summit between the leaders of Ukraine, the US, Russia, and Turkey,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.

According to him, Erdogan said that any negotiations without Ukraine would not bring stable peace.

“We all understand the risks and threats equally. A fake, rather than honest, peace will certainly not last long and will encourage Russia to seize even more territory. I noted that we are ready for any format of meeting in order to stop the killings and end the war,” the Ukrainian president added.

The parties also discussed high-level events that Ukraine is preparing during the UN General Assembly and Turkey’s participation in them.

According to the Turkish Presidency’s Twitter page, during the conversation, which took place at the request of the Ukrainian side, bilateral relations between Turkey and Ukraine, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.

“Recognizing the valuable progress achieved in direct talks in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia, President Erdogan expressed his hope that the next rounds of talks would yield meaningful results for a ceasefire on the path to lasting peace. Noting that Turkey is ready to host a summit at the leadership level, President Erdogan expressed his conviction that the establishment of working groups in the military, humanitarian, and political spheres will pave the way for the summit,” the statement said.

Erdogan also stressed that Turkey continues to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As reported, last Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that his meeting with Vladimir Putin would take place on August 15 in Alaska.

Zelensky signed law on Ukrainian citizens deported from Poland in 1944-1951

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law recognizing Ukrainian citizens who were forcibly resettled from the territory of the Polish People’s Republic in 1944-1951 as deportees. The relevant law card No. 4540-IX with the signature of the President of Ukraine has been published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga noted that this law restores historical justice regarding this “horrible crime.”

“President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has just signed an important law restoring the memory of Ukrainians forcibly deported from Poland in 1944-1951. This is a correct and dignified step that restores historical justice regarding this horrific crime. I thank the president for supporting this decision, as well as the members of parliament who developed and implemented it,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The minister noted that “many witnesses of those tragic events have already passed away,” but in order to protect the rights of “those who still live with us and their descendants,” Ukraine guarantees the provision of assistance as provided by law.
