KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine as of November 4 had threshed 55.9 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from 12.8 million hectares (90% of the forecast), whereas a year ago as of November 3 it collected 55.6 million tonnes from 13.3 million hectares (95% of the forecast).
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food, this year the average yield of cereals rose to 43.5 centners per ha from 40.2 centners per ha last year.
Corn harvest from 2.8 million hectares (67% of the forecast) amounted to 16.9 million tonnes, the yield increased to 59.7 centners/ha from 53.4 centners/ha.
Buckwheat was collected from 148,000 ha (99%) in the amount of 189,000 tonnes compared to 141,000 tonnes past year, in particular due to the rise in yield from 11.4 centners/ha to 12.7 centners/ha.
Millet was harvested from 103,000 ha in the amount of 187,000 tonnes (98%), whereas in the past year the country harvested 210,000 tonnes of this crop due to a higher yield (20 centners/ha against 18.2 centners/ha this year).
The country is continuing to harvest sunflower: with the forecast being 5.9 million hectares the crop has been harvested from an area of 5.7 million hectares (96%) in the amount of 12.6 million tonnes. Its yield rose to 22.2 centners/ha compared to 21.4 centners/ha last year, when farmers harvested 10.6 million tonnes.
The harvest of soybeans by November 4 amounted to 3.7 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares (90% of the forecast) with a substantial increase in yield to 22.4 centners/ha from 17.3 centners/ha last season, when the figure stood at 3.5 million tonnes.
