UKRAINE INCREASES EXPORTS OF TITANIUM ORE IN KIND BY 57% IN 2016

KYIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine in 2016 increased exports of titanium ore and concentrate in real terms by 57.1%, compared to 2015, to 463,386 tonnes.

According to customs statistics, made public by the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, exports of titanium ore and concentrate in monetary terms in 2016 rose by 16.7%, to $83.979 million.

Major exports were made to the Russian Federation (35.33% of the supply in money terms), the United States (18.35%), and the Czech Republic (12.40%).

Ukraine in 2016 imported 160 tonnes of titanium ore and concentrate, mainly from Senegal (90.63%), Germany (6.25%) and Vietnam (2.08%) for $90,000, while in 2015 the country imported 4 tonnes for $3,000 from South Africa.

As reported, Ukraine in 2015 reduced exports of titanium ore and concentrate in natural terms by 10.2% compared to 2014, to 295,024 tonnes, in monetary terms by 28.7%, to $71.955 million.

The produce was mainly exported to the Russian Federation (27.43% of the supply in money terms), the United States (16.47%), and the Czech Republic (15.82%).

Vilnohirsk state mining and metallurgical plant (Dnipropetrovsk region), Irshansk state mining and processing plant (Zhytomyr region), Valki-Ilmenite and Mezhdurechensk Mining and Concentration Complex (MMC, both are located in Irshansk, Zhytomyr region) are mainly produce titanium ore in Ukraine.

Dnipro-based Velta production and commercial firm built a mining and processing complex at the Birzulivske ilmenite deposit, which has a 240,000-tonne ilmenite concentrate capacity per year. At the first stage of production in October 2014 there was a large fire which destroyed 50-60% of total production.
