KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Winter crops in Ukraine have been sowed on 6.6 million hectares of the 7.4 million hectares projected by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food.
According to the ministry, winter wheat and triticale were sown on 5.6 million hectares (or 91% of the forecast), rye on 145,000 ha (or 92% of the forecast), and barley on 879,000 ha (84%).
Winter rapeseeds were sown on 649,000 ha with the forecast being 823,000 ha.
A survey of the area sowed with winter crops as of November 27, 2015 showed that sprouts had been obtained on an area of 5.3 million hectares, or 80% of crops. Crops on 3.4 million hectares (64%) are in a good and satisfactory state, those on 1.9 million ha (36%) are weak and thinned.
As reported, the ministry expects the area sowed with crops for the 2016 harvest to reach 7.4 million hectares, which is 17.5% less than the harvest in 2015.
