Winter rapeseed sowing lags behind last year’s pace by 15.5%

Farmers in 17 regions have started sowing winter rapeseed and, as of September 1, have sown 377,000 hectares, according to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture.

As of September 2 last year, 446,200 hectares had been sown with winter rapeseed in Ukraine, meaning that the lag is 15.5%.

It is noted that the leaders in terms of sowing rates are currently Vinnytsia (85,000 hectares), Ternopil (78,000 hectares), and Volyn (45,000 hectares) regions.

The Ministry of Economy also published forecast figures for the area sown with winter crops for the 2026 harvest. The ministry expects Ukrainian farmers to reduce the area sown with winter crops by 5.1% to 5.368 million hectares. In particular, the area under winter wheat will be reduced by 4.4% to 4.778 million hectares, winter barley by 2.7% to 576,100 hectares, winter rapeseed by 5.5% to 1.114 million hectares, while winter rye crops will increase by 7.6% to 69.3 thousand hectares.
