Ukrainian airlines in January 2019 serviced 77.1% of flights of the total number of flights serviced at Ukrainian airports within the 15 minute deviation from the timetable, while in November 2018 the figure was 79.4%, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry has reported. According to the ministry, in January Ukrainian airlines serviced 3,687 flights.
The Infrastructure Ministry said that the punctuality of foreign airlines in January compared with November decreased to 75.1%, while the number of flights totaled 2,659.
Of the Ukrainian airlines that made more than 50 flights a month in January, Motor Sich remains the most punctual, although last month its figure dropped to 87.3% from 95.6% a month earlier, with the number of flights 236.
Windrose is second with 83.2% and with the number of 274.
Punctuality of Ukraine’s largest airline in the market – Ukraine International Airlines – was only 71.4%, while the number of flights serviced was 2,708.
The indicators in January for SkyUp, Bravo, Yanair and Azur Air Ukraine were 63% and 61.2%.
Jordan Aviation, Air Malta, Aegean Airlines, Iraqi Airlines and Alitalia were ranked the top of the January punctuality rating among foreign airlines with the 100% punctuality, although the number of their flights is small – from four to 19 per month.
Pegasus Airlines had the best performance among low cost airlines – 77.6% with 107 flights, while Irish Ryanair and the Italian airline Ernest turned out to be next in the rating – 71.2% with 226 flights and 70.6% with 126 flights respectively. The figure of Hungarian Wizzair was 68.1% with 457 flights.
Among other foreign airlines that serviced more than 100 flights from Ukraine in January, Belavia had the best result – 87.3% with 237 flights. Polish LOT had 83.7% with 349 flights, and Austrian Airlines – 72.1% with 122 flights.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv) has been assigned with the right to fly on the Kyiv-Addis Ababa route, the Ukrainian Air Transport Association (UATA) has reported.
The press service of the airline confirmed the fact to Interfax-Ukraine, adding that at present, they cannot say when the airline will start flying to Ethiopia, as the negotiations have not yet been completed.
The airline will fly from the Boryspil international airport.
As reported, in December 2018, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine approved all applications of UIA for servicing regular flights from Kyiv to Riyadh (seven flights a week), Dammam and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) three times a week with unlimited duration.
UIA was founded in 1992. According to the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market and the public register, 100% directly or indirectly is controlled by Cypriot-based Ontobet Promotions Limited which beneficiaries are not disclosed. The fleet consists of 45 airplanes of different modifications.
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv) in 2018 carried more than 8 million passengers, which is 15% more than in 2017.
According to the airline, the share of transfer passengers on UIA regular flights was 53%.
During this period, the carrier performed 61,500 flights, which is 9% more than in 2017, and the occupancy of passenger seats was 81%.
“The expansion of the network of long-haul routes and the fleet with wide-bodied aircraft made it possible to take another step forward in increasing transit traffic through Ukraine and the further growth of the hub at Boryspil International Airport,” Yevhenia Satska, the spokeswoman of UIA, said.
The volume of cargo and mail transportation reached 21,350 tonnes, which is 12% more than in 2017.
In 2018, the airline expanded the geography of international flights and began operating flights from Kyiv to Copenhagen, Cairo, Delhi, and Toronto. The map of domestic routes was complemented with the regular flight Kyiv-Vinnytsia.
Ukrainian airlines carried around 12.5 million passengers in 2018, which is 18% more compared with 2017, according to tentative data from the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine posted on its website. According to the report, passenger flow via the country’s airports first in the history exceeded 20 million passengers, growing by 25%, to 20.55 million people.
Transportation of cargos and mail grew by 21%, to 100,000 tonnes.
The share of low cost airlines of the total services provided increased to a record hitting 30%.
Growth in passenger flow at the Lviv international airport was 48%, and 1.598 million passengers used airline’s services. The passenger flow of the Boryspil international airport was 12.6 million passengers in 2018, which is almost 20% more than in 2017.
As reported, in January-September 2018, Ukrainian airlines boosted passenger transportation by 18.1% year-over-year, to 9.671 million people.

According to the ministry, this happened despite the reduction in the number of flights from 4,540 to 3,790.
The Infrastructure Ministry said that the punctuality of foreign airlines in November compared with October decreased slightly from 84.9% to 83.7%, while the number of flights decreased from 2,720 to 2,510
Of the Ukrainian airlines that made more than 50 flights a month in October-November, Motor Sich remains the most punctual, although last month its figure dropped to 86.2% from 95.6% a month earlier, with the number of flights dropping to 239 from 250.
Windrose is second with a decline from 93.4% to 83.4% and with the number of flights falling from 482 to 356.
Punctuality of Ukraine’s largest airline in the market – Ukraine International Airlines – deteriorated from 86.6% to 80.9%, while the number of flights decreased from 3,161 to 2,681.
The indicators in November for SkyUp, Bravo, Yanair and Azur Air Ukraine were from 70% to 60% (in order of deterioration).
Czech Airlines, Swiss International Airlines and Air Arabia were ranked the top of the November punctuality rating among foreign airlines with the 100% punctuality, although the number of their flights is small – from 15 to 21 per month.
Pegasus Airlines had the best performance among low cost airlines – 96.2% with 105 flights, while Hungarian Wizzair and Irish Ryanair with significant lags turned out to be next in the rating – 81.5% with 406 flights and 79.7% with 222 flights respectively. The figure of the Italian airline Ernest was 76% with 96 flights.
Among other foreign airlines that serviced more than 100 flights from Ukraine in November, Belavia had the best result – 90% with 230 flights. Polish LOT had 86.3% with 314 flights, Turkish Airlines – 79.5% with 263 flights, Lufthansa – 77.6% with 170 flights and Austrian Airlines – 76.4% with 110 flights.
Ernest Airlines (Italy) plans in March 2019 to begin regular flights from Kyiv Sikorsky Airport (Zhuliany) to Genoa (Italy), the press service of the airport has reported.
According to a press release, this decision was announced by the regional manager of the airline during the opening of Kyiv-Rome and Kyiv-Milan (Malpensa) flights on October 19.
Earlier, Kharkiv International Airport announced the opening of regular flights of Ernest Airlines to Rome and Milan from March 21, 2019.
At the moment, the airline’s website has a timetable until the end of March 2019, in which flights from Ukraine to Milan, Rome and Naples are made from Kyiv and Lviv airports, as well as Kyiv-Bologna and Lviv-Venice destinations.
Ernest Airlines is an Italian airline headquartered in Milan. The main operations center of the company is located in Tirana (Albania). The airline is a low cost carrier. It serves Italian and Albanian markets. Currently, the airline’s fleet includes two Airbus-319 and Airbus-320 aircraft, but it is planned to replenish it with two more Airbus-320 aircraft by the end of this year.
