Passenger flow of the Kharkiv international airport in April 2018 totaled 65,300 people, which is 5% more than in April 2017 (61,900). The press service of the airport reported that total passenger flow in January-April 2018 grew to 236,900 people, which is 20% more than a year ago (196,800).
In April, Wizz Air low cost airline returned to the airport. From April 5, 2018, the airline launched direct flights to Dortmund (Germany). In April, the UIA airline also started flying on the Kharkiv-Milan (Italy) route. In addition to new flights, seasonal flights to Antalya (Azur Air Ukraine, UIA and Windrose) were launched. Traditionally popular destinations were Istanbul (Pegasus, Turkish Airlines and Atlasglobal), Kyiv (UIA), Sharm El-Sheikh (Azur Air Ukraine, Windrose and Bravo Airways), Warsaw (LOT), Tel-Aviv (UIA) and Minsk (Belavia).
Kharkiv airport has a runway 2,500 meters long and 50 meters wide. There are two passenger terminals with the capacity of 100 and 650 people on its territory. DCH manages the airport through New Systems AM.
The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport intends to expand Terminal A for servicing growing passenger flow, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said. “In the coming years we predict growth of passenger flow and the new large-scale reconstruction being conducted by Master-Avia (the company that manages the airport) is linked to this. In 2019, the airports arrival and departure capacities would be doubled,” he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. He said that at present, the international flight arrival zone has been re-equipped and expanded, and in the middle of May 2018 the large-scale reconstruction of Terminal A will start at the airport.
“Previously, the airport used Terminal D only for servicing domestic flights. Unfortunately, the domestic passenger traffic decreased significantly. IT practically came to nil. It was decided to re-equip a part of the facilities for servicing the arriving passengers from international flights. I cannot name the exact cost of reconstruction, as we are in the process. This is about UAH 20 million,” Kostrzhevsky said.
He added that two galleries have already been built that joined Terminals D and A. The number of passport control posts doubled, the area for staying passengers has been expanded significantly. The number of luggage delivery belts was doubled.
“It is planned to add more areas, about 9,000 square meters, to Terminal A, which will double the number of check-in counters, to 40. Also, the number of passport control desks, security checkpoints will be doubled, and, as a result, the number of passengers served simultaneously will grow 2.5-fold. Now it is about 700 passengers per hour, and there are plans to bring it up to 1,500,” Kostrzhevsky said.
State-owned enterprise (SOE) Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), the largest airport of the country, plans to service 12.55 million passengers in 2018, which is 19% more than in 2017, when 10.555 million people were serviced. This is outlined in a financial plan of the airport approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 11 and a copy of which has been sent to Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the document, this year the airport seeks to boost passenger flow on international routes by 16.8%, to 11.31 million and on domestic routes – by 42.7%, to 1.24 million people.
“The decrease in the airport fees in the Boryspil airport since June 2017 and the introduction of a program to stimulate growth in volumes by the number of carriers allow us to maintain high growth rates of passenger traffic,” the airport said in an explanatory note to its financial plan.
In 2018, the Boryspil airport plans to serve 101,466 flights, which is 16% more than in 2017. The number of international flights is planned at 89,363 (17.6% more), domestic – 12,103 (5.4% more).
