RADIATION IN KYIV IS WITHIN NORMAL RANGE – KYIV CITY STATE ADMINISTRATION

Smoke is possible in Kyiv due to fires in the Kyiv region, in particular, in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, according to the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City State Administration on Wednesday.
“The State Agency for the Management of the Exclusion Zone informs that the radiation state is within control levels. Smoke may move towards Vyshgorod and Kyiv, both from fires in the exclusion zone and from fires near Ivankov and the village of Strakholesye outside the exclusion zone. Extinguishing complicated by the wind, limited technical resources due to the consequences of the occupation – theft and destruction of a large amount of equipment and fuel, as well as the threat of mine explosions,” the report says.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, as of 17:00, the air quality on the right and left banks of the capital is within the normal range, no excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants was found.
At the same time, the city authorities urge the people of Kiev to close windows in case of smoke and, if possible, not to be in the open air. In addition, if available, air conditioning and air purification systems should be turned on. In case of smoke, experts advise to carry out wet cleaning, increase indoor air humidity, increase fluid intake up to 2-3 liters per day for adults.

DARNITSA LAUNCHES PRODUCTION OF DRUGS AGAINST RADIATION

Darnitsa pharmaceutical company (Kyiv), within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council, has registered and produced the drug Potassium Iodide-125-Darnitsa, designed to protect people from radiation, Dmytro Shymkiv, the chairman of the board of directors of Darnitsa Group, wrote about this on Facebook.
He said that the drug was created in accordance with the regulations for iodine prophylaxis in the event of a radiation accident.
In addition, Shymkiv said that last week Darnitsa donated 525,000 packages (5.25 million tablets) from the first batch of Potassium Iodide-125-Darnitsa to the public health center of the Ministry of Health for free. This will make it possible to carry out iodine prophylaxis if necessary for more than 5 million people.
Potassium iodide is used to protect the thyroid from radiation buildup. The risk of radiation damage to the thyroid gland can be reduced or even leveled with the timely appointment of iodine prophylaxis. The optimal effect of iodine prophylaxis is achieved with preventive intake of potassium iodide for 6 hours or less, as well as simultaneously with the intake of radioactive isotopes of iodine or entering the contaminated zone.

RADIATION LEVELS IN CHORNOBYL EXCLUSION ZONE IS WITHIN NORM

Radiation levels on the territory of the Chornobyl exclusion zone, in Kyiv region and in Kyiv are within the norm, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has said.
“Radiation levels in the city of Kyiv, in Kyiv region, and in the exclusion zone are within natural background levels,” Director of the State Emergency Service’s Emergency Response Department Volodymyr Demchuk said during an online briefing on Monday.
One of four fire beds has been contained in the Chornobyl zone as of this morning, Demchuk said.
“The most difficult fire bed is located near the village of Rudky, where all possible measures are being taken to prevent the fire from spreading to the territory of the Republic of Belarus,” he said.
The other two fire beds in the exclusion zone, near the village of Rosokhach and Kryva Hora, pose no threat to the forests and other territories in the exclusion zone, Demchuk said.
“The Confinement facility, the spent nuclear fuel storage facility and the other facilities of the state agency managing the exclusion zone are functioning normally, he said.
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service is maintaining contact with the Belarusian Emergency Situations Ministry as concerns joint firefighting measures, Demchuk said.
