SHAKHTAR DONETSK BEATS REAL MADRID 3-2 IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Shakhtar Donetsk beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the first round of the Champions League group stage.
In the first half, Shakhtar, played in a weakened line-up due to the early detection of coronavirus (COVID-19) in a number of team players, managed to score three unanswered goals against the Royal Club. Brazilian Tete, Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, and Shakhtar’s Israeli midfielder Manor Solomon scored a goal.
At the beginning of the second half, Real managed to win back two goals after accurate hits by Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior. In the last seconds of the match, Madrid managed to score the third goal after hitting Federico Valverde, but the goal was canceled after the referee watched a video replay due to offside position of one of the Spanish team’s players.
This group also includes the Italian Inter and the German Borussia (Mönchengladbach).

FC SHAKHTAR DONETSK TO PLAY IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WITH ENGLISH MANCHESTER CITY, CROATIAN DINAMO ZAGREB AND ITALIAN ATALANTA

Shakhtar Donetsk Football Club will play in the group stage of the Champions League of 2019-2020 season with the English Manchester City, the Croatian Dinamo Zagreb and the Italian Atalanta.
These are the results of the draw, which took place in Monaco.
The champions of Ukraine played with Man City in the same group in the previous season and received 0:3 home defeat, and 0:6 in an away loss.
Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malynovsky plays for Atalanta from this season.

PORTUGUESE COACH PAULO FONSECA LEAVES UKRAINIAN SHAKHTAR DONETSK TO HEAD FC ROMA

FC Shakhtar Donetsk has announced that Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca left the Ukrainian club. “FC Shakhtar thanks Paulo Fonseca and his coaching staff for their excellent work. We wish them every success in their further career, more outstanding achievements, and great victories!” a report posted on the club’s website reads.
Italy’s Roma, in turn, reported on its website that Fonseca had been appointed the club’s head coach.
After taking the helm at Shakhtar on June 1, 2016, over three years Paulo has become one of the most successful coaches in the club’s history. With the team, he claimed three golden doubles and brought the absolute leadership in Ukrainian football back to Shakhtar. Over the years, the Orange-and-Blacks won three league titles, raised three Ukrainian Cups and secured a Ukrainian Super Cup.
In total, under the leadership of Fonseca, the team had 139 games, winning 103 of them.
