Consultant of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in the field of energy efficiency – Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting – in August-November this year carried out seven energy audits of production units of the Ukrainian company.
As Ukrzaliznytsia said in a report on Friday, these are the first results of DB’s work within the framework of cooperation on the development of an energy management strategy for the electrification of the Ukrainian railway.
Based on the results of the first months of work, DB will provide Ukrzaliznytsia with standard recommendations for conducting energy audits in all of the company’s entities.
In addition, in the first quarter of 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive analytical tools to analyze the consumption of material and technical resources and expert recommendations on management decisions to finance energy efficiency measures.
DB will also develop an energy efficiency investment plan for Ukrzaliznytsia in accordance with commitments within the framework of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka railway electrification project and will provide a roadmap for obtaining ISO 50001 certification and training employees.
These measures will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to reduce operating costs, improve the quality and reliability of railway transport services and reduce its impact on the environment. The project is scheduled to be completed in February 2023.
DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH was approved as an energy efficiency consultant for Ukrzaliznytsia based on the results of a tender held according to the rules and procedures of the EBRD.
To implement the agreement with DB, the EBRD’s Shareholder Special Fund (SSF) agreed to provide Ukrzaliznytsia with a non-refundable grant in the amount of about EUR 370,000, which fully covers the amount of payment for the consultant’s services.
