METINVEST TO INVEST UAH 2.3 BLN IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MEASURES

The Northern Mining and Processing Plant (Northern GOK, Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region), which is the part of the Metinvest Group, will invest UAH 2.3 billion in environmental protection measures in 2020.
Metinvest Kryvyi Rih said on Facebook on Thursday, August 20, that Northern GOK continues seeking effective ways of environmental protection.
“This time peat hydroxide reagent was successfully tested during the blasting operations in the mine. Earlier, spraying of the reagent in the Hannivsky mine helped to reduce dusting by 30% and gas emission by 70%,” it said.
As reported, Metinvest plans to invest UAH 3.1 billion in the modernization and overhauls of equipment and construction of strategic facilities at Northern GOK in 2020.
Northern GOK is a part of the Metinvest Group, the main shareholders of which are JSC System Capital Management (SCM, Donetsk) (71.24%) and Smart Holding group of companies (23.76%).
The holding company of the Metinvest Group is Metinvest Holding LLC.

ARCELORMITTAL PASSES 50 MLN TONNES OF SMELTER SLAG FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN UKRAINE

PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) has passed 50 million tonnes of smelter slag to state-run enterprise New Technologies of Road Construction.
The metallurgical complex said on Thursday that after processing into slag crushed stone and sand smelter slag will be used for road construction and repairs under the Big Construction state program.
“We want Ukravtodor and local authorities to use more actively smelter slag provided by ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih the characteristics of which fully comply with the national standards of road construction. It can be used in the base layer and as fine and coarse aggregate for concrete and asphalt roads,” the enterprise’s chief engineer, Andriy Babenko, said.
He also noted that active use smelter slag will improve the quality of road surface, as well as resolve the environmental problems related to accumulation and disposal of waste.
“Moreover, this is an economically reasonable solution, as road construction using such a technology will cost the government less than the use of natural materials,” Babenko said.
According to ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukravtodor plans to use around 500,000 cubic meters of smelter slag for road construction in 2020. As of the middle of August, it has used more than 100,000 cubic meters of smelter slag in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions.

UIA TRANSPORTS 113,300 PASSENGERS, 390,200 TONNES OF CARGO SINCE RESUMPTION OF FLIGHTS IN JUNE

As of the middle of August, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) transported 113,345 passengers and 390,185 tonnes of cargo since the resumption of flights in the middle of June.
“Starting from mid-June until mid-August, we carried out around 1,238 regular and charter flights, of which 86% departed on schedule,” UIA President Yevhen Dykhne said on Facebook.
He also recalled that in the first half of the year the UIA transported around 1 million passengers, while last year this index reached almost 4 million.
“This means that aviation in fact has to start from zero, and the interest and persistence of employees alone are worthy of attention,” Dykhne said.
He also said that the airline has a range of plans for autumn, adding that he expects the company’s results would only grow.
As reported, earlier the UIA reduced its August flight schedule due to the extension of a ban on entering the Schengen zone for Ukrainian citizens by the EU.

VUSO INSURER RAISES GROSS PREMIUM COLLECTION BY 2.5% IN H1

PrJSC Insurance company VUSO (Kyiv) in January-June 2020 collected UAH 454.027 million of gross premiums, which is 2.52% more than in the same period in 2019, the rating agency Standard-Rating reports, confirming the company’s financial strength rating at “uaAA” on the national scale, based on the analysis of the company’s performance for the first half of 2020.
According to the agency report on its website, income from individuals increased by 23.53%, to UAH 323.406 million, and from reinsurers, on the contrary, decreased by 56.64%, to UAH 24.531 million. Thus, the share of individuals in gross premiums increased to 71.23%, while the share of reinsurers decreased to 5.40%, while individuals continue to prevail in the insurer’s client portfolio.
Insurance premiums sent to reinsurers for the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019 decreased by 2.81%, from UAH 185.871 million to UAH 180.644 million. As a result, the coefficient of dependence on reinsurance companies decreased from 41.97% to 39.79%, or 2.18 percentage points.
The insurer’s business activity indicators in the period under review showed a growing trend: net premiums increased by 6.38%, to UAH 273.383 million, and premiums earned by 39.34%, to UAH 330.473 million.
For the six months of 2020 VUSO paid out to its clients UAH 16.846 million of insurance compensations, which is 35.57% more than the volume of payments for the same period in 2019. At the same time, the level of payments increased from 27.62% to 36.53%, or by 8.91 percentage points.
The company’s assets as of June 31 increased by 8.92%, to UAH 693.585 million.

OSCHADBANK TO START SELLING NPL AT AUCTIONS FROM AUTUMN 2020

Oschadbank (Kyiv) is preparing to start selling non-performing loans (NPL) at open auctions starting in the fall of 2020, in particular, the bank is currently identifying and agreeing on the relevant assets for sale, the bank’s press service has told Interfax-Ukraine.
The press service clarified mechanisms for managing problem assets have become more accessible thanks to the decree of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) dated April 13, 2020 (No. 49) and the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated April 15, 2020 (No. 281).
It is clarified that these documents determine that the relevant auctions should be held according to the Dutch model (to lower the price) and include the stages of submitting closed price offers and a price offer subject to a number of conditions.
The press service added that such conditions include a ban on the purchase of a lot by the debtor or a person related to him, setting the starting price at the level of the gross book value of the financial asset, and the minimum at a level not less than the minimum economic benefit.
It is noted that the changes adopted by the NBU and the Cabinet of Ministers also determine the procedure for writing off bad assets by state banks. In particular, in accordance with them, Oschadbank in the first half of 2020 wrote off non-performing assets by UAH 22 billion, which led to a decrease in the share of NPL in the total credit portfolio from 55% at the beginning of the year to 48%.
