Ukraine for 9 months reduced scrap procurement by 73.5%

In January-September of the current year, enterprises engaged in operations with ferrous scrap reduced the procurement of scrap metal by 73.5% compared to the same period last year – up to 830 thousand tons from 3.135 million tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (“UAVtormet”), the export of scrap metal for the specified period amounted to 35.2 thousand tons, which is 12.9 times less compared to 9 months-2021 (455.5 thousand tons ). At the same time, scrap imports amounted to 1.6 thousand tons, while in January-September 2021 – 17.2 thousand tons.
The supply of scrap to the country’s steel enterprises for 9 months-2022 decreased by 70.1% compared to January-September-2021 – to 755.5 thousand tons from 2.530 million tons.
As of October 1, 2022, the level of scrap metal stocks at Ukrainian steel enterprises is estimated at 35-40 thousand tons.

Ukraine reduced export of semi-finished products from carbon steel by 68.9%

Ukraine in January-September of this year reduced the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel in kind by 68.9% compared to the same period last year – up to 1 million 665.909 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel over this period decreased by 67% – to $1 billion 55.080 million.
The main exports were to Bulgaria (23.38% of deliveries in monetary terms), Italy (13.6%) and Poland (12092%).
In addition, Ukraine imported 5,540 thousand tons of such products in January-September, which is 65.4% less than in January-September 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 64.7% – to $ 3.588 million. Imports were carried out from the Russian Federation (98.16% of supplies), Romania (1.23%) and China (0.59%).
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 reduced the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel in physical terms by 9.5% compared to 2020, to 6 million 776.44 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the export of semi-finished products from carbon steel increased by 48.8% over the year to $4 billion 93.02 million. The main exports were to Italy (30.90% of supplies in monetary terms), Turkey (12.77%) and the Republic (8.02%).
In addition, Ukraine imported 38.97 thousand tons of such products in 2021, which is 2.6 times more than in 2020. In monetary terms, imports increased by 3.9 times – up to $25.95 million. Imports were carried out from the Russian Federation (97.73% of deliveries), Turkey (1.15%) and Uzbekistan (1.08%).

Ukrainian enterprises reduced imports of copper and copper products by 62%

Ukrainian enterprises in January-September this year reduced imports of copper and copper products in value terms by 62% compared to the same period last year – to $47.502 million.
According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, exports of copper and copper products over the specified period decreased by 55.5% to $71.226 million.
In September, copper and copper products were imported in the amount of $5.758 million, exported – in the amount of $7.083 million.
In addition, Ukraine in January-September 2022 reduced imports of nickel and products from it by 44.4% compared to January-September 2021 – to $49.3 million (in September – $4.664 million), aluminum and products from it – by 30.8%, to $239.539 million ($32.357 million). At the same time, it reduced the import of lead and products from it by 65.1% – to $2.395 million ($146 thousand). The import of tin and products from it fell by 8% – to $2.789 million ($322 thousand), and the import of zinc and zinc products – by 58.5%, up to $28.225 million ($2.090 million).
Exports of aluminum and products from it for the first nine months of 2022 decreased by 36.4% compared to January-September 2021 – to $75.861 million (in September – $9.406 million), lead and products from it by 67.2% – to $9.370 million ($0.684 million), nickel and products – by 69.2%, to $1.079 million ($0.141 million).
Export of zinc for the reporting period amounted to $1.302 million (no export was carried out in August-September), while in January-September 2021 it was $132 thousand. Export of tin and products in January-September 2022 amounted to $420 thousand (in September – $24 thousand) against $87 thousand for January-September-2021.
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 increased copper imports in value terms by 59% compared to 2020 – up to $183.161 million, exports of copper and copper products over the specified period increased by 2.4 times compared to 2020 – up to $206.390 million.
In 2021, Ukraine also increased the import of nickel and products from it by 45.8% compared to 2020 – up to $119.154 million, aluminum and products from it – by 30.2%, to $511.190 million. At the same time, it reduced the import of lead and products of it by 7.8% – up to $8.512 million, increased imports of tin and products from it by 75.2%, up to $4.977 million, and also increased zinc and zinc products – by 62.9%, up to $93.635 million.
Exports of aluminum and products from it in 2021 increased by 53.9% – to $169.094 million, lead and products from it by 52.8% – to $38.229 million, nickel and products – by 55%, to $4.856 million.
Zinc exports last year amounted to $550 thousand, while in 2020 it was $69 thousand (an increase of eight times). Export of tin and products in 2021 amounted to $346,000 against $117,000 in 2020.

FC “Dynamo” donated a hovercraft to border guards

Dynamo football club donated a hovercraft to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“Dynamo players Georgiy Bushchan, Vladislav Supryaga, Valentin Morgun and vice-president of the football club Vitaliy Sivkov visited the border guards with a gift,” the message on the Telegram channel of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said on Friday.
It is noted that the fighters of the State Border Service decided to name the new airship “Dynamovets”.
It will become a reliable assistant in the protection and defense of the border, the department stressed.

Ukraine for 9 months reduced iron exports by 56%

Ukraine in January-September this year reduced the export of pig iron in kind by 55.9% compared to the same period last year – up to 1 million 77.356 thousand tons.
According to statistics published by the State Customs Service (SCS), over the specified period, the export of pig iron in monetary terms decreased by 56.5% – to $550.490 million.
At the same time, exports were carried out mainly to the USA (41.75% of deliveries in monetary terms), Poland (34.1%) and Turkey (8.7%).
In January-September 2022, Ukraine imported 15 tons of pig iron from Germany for $25,000, while in 9 months-2021 it imported 149 tons of pig iron for $163,000 from Germany (64.42%), Russia (28.22%) and Slovakia (7.36%).
As reported, in 2021 Ukraine increased the export of pig iron in physical terms by 4.2% compared to 2020 – up to 3 million 235.772 thousand tons, the export of pig iron in monetary terms increased by 78.1% – up to $1 billion 642.596 million At the same time, exports were carried out mainly to the USA (53.61% of deliveries in monetary terms), Italy (22.08%) and Turkey (9.74%).
In 2021, Ukraine imported 185 tons of pig iron worth $226 thousand from Germany (74.34%), the Russian Federation (20.35%) and Slovakia (5.31%), while in 2020 it imported 593 tons worth $417 thousand.

Ukrainian enterprises reduced export of ferrous scrap by 12.9 times

Ukrainian enterprises in January-September of this year reduced the export of ferrous scrap by 12.9 times compared to the same period last year – up to 35.275 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, the export of scrap metal over this period decreased by 13.9 times – to $12.640 million.
At the same time, over nine months, the country reduced the import of scrap metal in physical terms by 11.1 times – up to 1,554 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the import of scrap decreased 9.7 times to $3.279 million.
The import of scrap metal in January-September was carried out mainly from Turkey (78.87% of deliveries in monetary terms), the Russian Federation (14.09%) and Cyprus (5.4%); export – to Turkey (59.42%), Poland (15.34%) and Germany (9.41%).
In addition, in January-September 2022, Ukrainian steel enterprises did not import products of direct reduction of iron from ore under code 7203 – hot briquetted iron (HBI), which is a substitute for pig iron and scrap metal, but exported 258 tons of these products to India (100%) in the amount of $48 thousand
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 increased the export of scrap metal by 17.2 times compared to the previous year – up to 615.687 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the export of scrap metal increased 25.2 times – up to $238.895 million.
In 2021, the country reduced the import of scrap metal in physical terms by 13.1% to 22.964 thousand tons. In monetary terms, the import of scrap increased by 72.4% to $44.883 million.
The import of scrap metal in 2021 was carried out mainly from Turkey (60.42% of deliveries in monetary terms), the Russian Federation (33.44%) and Belarus (1.57%); export – to Turkey (84.85%), Romania (6.66%) and Poland (3.45%).
In addition, Ukrainian steel enterprises in 2021 imported from the Russian Federation 1,603 thousand tons of products of direct reduction of iron from ore under code 7203 – hot briquetted iron (HBI), which is a substitute for pig iron and scrap metal, in the amount of $653 thousand, while in 2020 – 2,648 thousand tons for $805 thousand. At the same time, the export of these products to India amounted to 288 tons for $91 thousand.
