A presentation of new books by writer Sergei Petkov took place in “SHINE of Book” bookstore

On July 21, 2023, in support of the collection for the mobile hospital, the bookstore “SHINE of the Book” hosted a presentation of new books by writer, scientist, military officer, specialist in the theory and history of state and law – Sergei Petkov. There was a discussion on the founding of Kyiv. How many capitals did the state of Rus have? Where did Svyatoslav the Brave die? Where did Russia come from? And other historical questions and myths.

The oldest bookstore, Siaivo Knytsi, filled with the smell of paper and the sound of rustling books, has always been a place where various stories and famous authors meet. This time, Siaivo Knytsi witnessed a meeting between author and writer Serhiy Petkov and readers. Visitors were full of curiosity and desire to see the face of the soldier and author who so skillfully introduced them to the world of the past.

A bookstore filled with books, an audience that the author greeted with a smile, a friendly handshake and words of gratitude for their support. Visitors who have become part of the literary world have responded to the author’s words, to his research and development. And the author knows that it is thanks to readers that his books and research live on, find their fans, arouse interest, and expand their boundaries.

Talking about historical figures, events, favorite princes… the author gets the opportunity to hear direct impressions of his work. He or she feels surprised when readers tell him or her that they were absorbed by each page, how they lived every step of the way with famous figures, felt their atmosphere, and became participants in history.

Such a meeting is an opportunity for readers not only to touch the author, but also to hear about the process of creating a book, to feel the complex and almost magical atmosphere that reigns at the literary table.

The meeting lasted for a long time, but it was like a moment for those who were transported to the world of books and unexpectedly found their creator there. People were saying goodbye to the historian-writer, charged with new impressions, with a glow in their eyes and an undisguised desire to return to his works as soon as possible.

The bookstore, a place where different destinies come together, witnessed a meeting that captured the moment of communication and confirmed that words have the power to bring people together, open up new worlds, and preserve our history.

The moderators of the event emphasized that it is for the sake of preserving Ukrainian culture, Ukrainian language, Ukrainian books… – Ukrainian identity – that Ukrainian soldiers are fighting the insidious enemy. The organizers reminded about the Mobile Frontline Hospital project – https://front.hospital – run by the Charitable Foundation for Reconstruction and Development of Ukraine under the leadership of Artem Honcharenko. The mobile hospital has already been transferred to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine since November 2022. The proceeds from each book that is currently being popularized in the Siaivo bookstore are used to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine will win. Glory to the Armed Forces! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

Interior Ministry investigators have collected evidence of embezzlement of more than UAH 250 mln by former head of Delta Bank Lagun

Investigators have collected evidence of embezzlement of more than UAH 250 million in 2012-2015 by the head of the supervisory board of Delta Bank in collusion with deputy heads of the board of directors and the director of a controlled legal entity, the Interior Ministry said in a telegram Monday.

“Throughout 2012-2013, the head of the supervisory Board of Delta Bank ordered his subordinates to issue a loan to a legal entity controlled by him: 430 million UAH, of which they did not return 199”, – said law enforcers.

They added that there was also concluded a knowingly unfavorable agreement on the assignment of claims under the loan agreement at a price significantly lower than the real value, as a result of which the officials took possession of about UAH 29 million, and in 2014-2015 under a similar scheme – UAH 19 million.

The investigation on other criminal facts continues, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It specified that the indictment was sent to court, the defendants face imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.

Delta Bank was founded in 2006. Its largest shareholders at the beginning of 2015 were Mykola Lagun (70.6059%) and Cargill Financial Services International, Inc. (29.3941%).

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of January 1, 2015, Delta Bank ranked 4th in terms of total assets (UAH 60.303 billion) among 158 banks operating at that time.

Delta Bank was classified as troubled in October 2014, and on March 3, 2015 – as insolvent due to the fact that the owner of the bank did not take timely and sufficient measures to improve its financial condition.

During the preparation for the heating season, Ukraine’s gas storage facilities have already accumulated 11.7 billion cubic meters of gas, and by the beginning of the autumn-winter period, it is planned to reach the figure of 14.7 billion cubic meters, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

The Department of Communications of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers said on July 21 that he said this after a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov, Head of NJSC Naftogaz Oleksiy Chernyshev, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance.

At the meeting, issues of repairs, accumulation of fuel resources, and safety of thermal power facilities were discussed. Reports were heard from the Ministry of Infrastructure and NJSC Naftogaz on the plan for the preparation of thermal power plants for the autumn-winter period 2023/2024 and on the state of implementation of this plan for CHPPs, boiler houses, and thermal power plants.

“As the Ministry of Infrastructure reported, each enterprise has its own equipment repair plan, they are being implemented under the schedules. Those responsible for their observance have been identified. The state of readiness of housing and municipal services facilities has been considered. At the start of the heating season, they should reach 100%. This guarantees a stable winter,” Shmyhal said.

Former Alfa-Bank has new management board

Olena Zubchenko, Oleksiy Shklyaruk, Inna Tyutyun and Andriy Sokolov have become board members of Sence Bank (Kyiv, formerly Alfa-Bank) after its nationalization at the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance, according to the information on the website of the financial institution.

More detailed information about them is not yet available, but it is known that Zubchenko headed the Department of Financial Policy of the Ministry of Finance.

Shklyaruk, according to information in LinkedIn, since 2016 has served as a member of the board of Agroprosperis Bank and was responsible for the direction of risk management, before that he worked in Credit Agriclole – also in the field of risk management.

Sokolov, according to data in LinkedIn, has worked at Pivdennyi Bank since late 2017, including as head of the corporate business department since April 2020.

Tyutyun, according to information in LinkedIn, since June 2018 was deputy head of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Fintech and Innovation Companies, and previously deputy head of the board of Ukrgasbank.

As reported, the new head of the Board of Sense Bank became Dmitry Kuzmin, who for about half a year time headed a bank with foreign capital Universal Bank before its sale in late 2016 to Serhiy Tihipko’s TAS group. Prior to that, he worked at Raiffeisen Bank Aval and, even earlier, at Citibank, where he was chief accountant for more than a decade. After 2020, he was an independent member of the supervisory board of AS PrivatBank.

As reported, Sense Bank ranks 11th among 65 operating banks in Ukraine in terms of assets (about 3.4% of the assets of the entire banking system). It was nationalized in the last few days under a specially adopted law as a systemically important bank with majority shareholders from Alfa Group caught up in sanctions.
