AgriAcademy has launched free course on biosecurity to combat African swine fever

AgriAcademy, a professional online course platform for agribusiness, announces the launch of a new free online course, ‘Biosecurity for Hunting Farms’, developed by experts from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in response to one of the most serious threats to livestock and food security – African swine fever (ASF).

African swine fever remains one of the key biological risks for Ukraine. The virus is highly resistant in the environment and circulates continuously among wild boar populations, posing a constant threat to domestic livestock, hunting farms and related sectors.

That is why FAO experts have developed a specialised training course based on international experience in combating ASF, adapted to Ukrainian realities and wartime conditions.

What the course is about

The course focuses on the practical aspects of biosecurity for hunting farms in Ukraine, using ASF control as an example. It examines in detail the logical and effective sequence of actions applied in EU countries and other regions of the world:

  1. stopping the epidemic wave to prevent further spread of the virus;
  2. promoting the natural mortality of the virus to reduce the density of the infected population;
  3. controlling and reducing the residual population after its collapse to avoid a re-emergence.

Who is this course for

The training is designed for:

  • users of hunting grounds;
  • employees of the hunting and forestry industries;
  • veterinary specialists;
  • representatives of local communities and management bodies.

Practical outcome for participants

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • implement biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of ASF;
  • develop strategies to contain and eliminate the disease;
  • assess the risks of virus spread and organise safe carcass disposal;
  • effectively communicate and coordinate actions between hunters, veterinarians and communities.

Training format

The course includes video lectures, analytical materials, practical tools, real-life case studies and a final test. Training is conducted online in a convenient 24/7 mode.

Course author and lecturer

Oleksandr Revnivtsev, FAO international consultant on animal husbandry.

“Greenhouse Business Without Mistakes” — new course from AgriAcademy

Greenhouse business without mistakes: take the new course “Greenhouse Agro Solutions” from leading industry experts at AgriAcademy

A new professional online course, “Greenhouse Agro Solutions,” created by a team of leading experts in Ukraine’s greenhouse sector, is now available on AgriAcademy, a platform offering free certified courses for Ukrainian agribusiness.

This innovative course for the greenhouse business was created by the winner of the national competition for the development of online training courses for SMEs in the Ukrainian agricultural sector — the Green Agro Solutions Public Association. The course is already available for enrollment, and its first online presentation attracted more than 100 farmers and representatives of agricultural companies, which indicates a high demand for modern professional content for agribusiness.

A year ago, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, announced an open call for proposals for the development of online training courses. This initiative is funded by Ireland through the EBRD Small Business Facility and the FAO. The EBRD Small Business Promotion Fund is financed by Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, the TaiwanBusiness – EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund, and the United States of America.

The goal was to develop online training courses to address the shortage of professional knowledge and skills in the agricultural sector, food and processing industries, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine. The competition received 74 preliminary applications and 54 sets of documents, of which 35 were selected for final evaluation by an expert commission. Vitaliy Vorontsov, head of the Green Agro Solutions advisory service, received a certificate for funding the development of the course from the FAO.

“It is a great honor for our team that the idea of the Greenhouse Agro Solutions course won the competition and was selected by AgriAcademy for implementation. We are sincerely grateful to the organizers and partners of the project for their trust and the opportunity to create a training product that will help Ukrainian farmers gain the most up-to-date knowledge,” said Vitaliy Vorontsov, head of the agricultural advisory service of the Green Agro Solutions public association.

The course program is designed to provide entrepreneurs and farmers with systematic knowledge on the creation, modernization, and management of greenhouse farms — from engineering and microclimate to economics, innovation, and sustainable development.

“In the course of our work, we sought to create a truly unique course — one that had never been seen before in Ukraine. A course that combines engineering, agronomy, biosecurity, economics, and innovation. To this end, I assembled one of the strongest teams of specialists in the greenhouse sector—practitioners, engineers, scientists, and experts who work every day in greenhouses, on projects, and in real production conditions. Our task was simple and at the same time very important: to create a course that would be understandable, practical, and useful for small and medium-sized businesses, farmers, students, and anyone who wants to develop modern greenhouse production in Ukraine.

I believe that this course will become a new growth point for the greenhouse industry, help develop the professional community, and support those who are building the future of the Ukrainian agricultural sector,” emphasizes Vitaliy Vorontsov.

About the course: practical tools, innovations, and adaptation to the new realities of the greenhouse sector

The course program has been developed taking into account the challenges faced by Ukrainian greenhouse farms—climatic risks, energy costs, lack of technical information, and the consequences of war on production infrastructure.

The training covers ten key modules:

  • climate risks and adaptation models;
  • choice of greenhouse design and type;
  • soil and soilless cultivation technologies;
  • ventilation, irrigation, heating, automation;
  • nutrition and bioprotection;
  • microclimate management;
  • greenhouse production economics;
  • innovations: IoT, LED lighting, vertical farms;
  • practical case studies;
  • prospects for the development of the greenhouse industry.

Course developers: the team shaping the greenhouse sector

The course was created by experts with many years of experience in applying technologies for the greenhouse business:

  • Vitaliy Vorontsov – Chairman of the Green Agro Solutions Public Association, advisor on management and organic production.
  • Oleksandr Kiyanovskyi – Founder of the ECO TEK GROUP engineering company, expert in greenhouse design and construction.
  • Viktor Shuleshko – CEO of GREEN FUTURE ENGINEERING, specialist in vertical farming and LED technologies.
  • Mykola Teteruk – expert in biological protection and plant nutrition, commercial director of BIO Center.
  • Olena Boltovska – expert in pollination and integrated biological protection, project manager at Rosana Biological Solutions.

It was thanks to this victory that the team of expert practitioners was able to go the whole way – from concept to the creation of a full-fledged training program, which was developed, tested, and prepared for launch in 2025.

The course gives farmers access to the tools they need to modernize their greenhouses, reduce costs, increase yields, and implement energy-saving solutions.

Accessible technical education contributes to the restoration of production, increases the competitiveness of farmers, and strengthens the country’s food security.

The program is shaping a new culture of greenhouse management, where engineering, technology, and environmental approaches work together.

The course is free and already available on the AgriAcademy platform!

The platform also offers over 30 certified online courses for Ukrainian agribusiness.

New free course from Astarta on pea biology: what agronomists need to know for high yields

A new free certified course has been launched on the AgriAcademy educational platform: ‘Peas. Biological characteristics of the crop’, dedicated to one of Ukraine’s key legumes. The curriculum has been developed by specialists from the agro-industrial holding company Astarta.

What is the course about?

The new training module takes a detailed look at the biological characteristics of peas that determine their yield potential. Students will learn:

  • what temperature conditions are required for seed germination;
  • how light requirements and moisture levels affect the initial stages of development;
  • how the biology of the crop shapes the future harvest and what to look for during cultivation.

The course will be useful for both practicing agronomists and managers, students or farmers who want to improve their approach to pea cultivation technology.

Who created the course?

The lead expert is Volodymyr Kuryachiy, one of the most renowned agronomists in the Poltava region with over 40 years of experience in production. At the Astarta-Kyiv agricultural holding, he headed the crop production department of the Dovzhenko Agricultural Firm for over ten years and has been working as the chief agronomist of the Poltava region since 2019.

The following people also worked on the course:

  • Olga Veiler – developed an interactive presentation;
  • Svitlana Semenyuk, who developed the course methodology.

Certificate and accessibility

All AgriAcademy courses, including this one, are free of charge.

Students receive:

  • interactive presentations;
  • video lectures;
  • practical assignments;
  • the opportunity to take a final test and receive a certificate.

The course is available at any time, allowing farmers to study at their convenience without taking time off from their daily work.

Why is this important?

The demand for legumes is growing both due to the development of export markets and the need to restore soil fertility. Peas remain one of the most effective crops in crop rotation, and a proper understanding of their biology directly affects yield stability even in difficult climatic conditions.

The new course from Astarta and AgriAcademy provides agricultural producers with practical, scientifically based knowledge that can be applied as early as next season.

Registration is now open!

Farmers can join via the link on the AgriAcademy platform and start learning immediately after registration.

Other training courses from Astarta specialists are also available on the platform:

Astarta is a vertically integrated agro-industrial holding in Ukraine, a public European company that conducts socially responsible business and produces food products with a focus on global markets. AgriAcademy has launched free courses for farmers

On November 19–20, 2025, Kyiv became the center of discussion on the future of food security and technological development in the agricultural sector. In parallel with the AgroExpo 2025 exhibition, the IV International Conference “Food from Ukraine” was held, organized by the Ministry of Economy, Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Ukraine in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The large-scale exhibition and business forum brought together those who are shaping the future of the agricultural sector: from representatives of the EU, G7, African countries, and the Global South to Ukrainian government officials, leaders of industry associations, manufacturers of machinery and equipment, and companies in the domestic food industry. It was a space where international diplomacy, innovative business, and science came together in direct dialogue. The organizers set themselves an ambitious goal: to show the world that the Ukrainian agricultural sector, despite the challenges of war, remains a driver of innovation. That is why special attention was focused on demonstrating modern technologies in production and processing, new solutions in agricultural engineering, and promoting Ukrainian food products to global markets.

Education has become a critical element linking technology, business, and practical development in the agricultural sector. That is why, for the first time, the exhibition featured the capabilities of AgriAcademy, a free online platform for agricultural education and certified online courses from leading Ukrainian and international experts. AgriAcademy.org is a free online learning platform for agricultural workers and students of agricultural education institutions, launched by the EBRD in December 2022 as part of its food security support program in Ukraine. Its goal is to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainable development of agriculture, which has suffered significant losses due to the war.

AgriAcademy as a navigational beacon amid technology, innovation, and the challenges of war

Visitors to the exhibition could see AgriAcademy information banners with QR codes that led directly to the course catalog. This format attracted considerable attention—farmers actively tested the QR codes, photographed the banners, and many participants learned for the first time about the possibility of certified free training in Ukrainian.

The AgriAcademy team handed out flyers with direct links to certified courses, and this simplicity of interaction became an advantage: specialists from various companies were able to register on the spot without delay.

According to many participants, today, when the industry is experiencing a shortage of personnel and technologies are changing faster than businesses can adapt, quality education is no longer an option — it is a necessity for recovery and growth.

Why interest in AgriAcademy is growing

After the war began, thousands of agricultural workers lost access to structured forms of training. AgriAcademy has become the answer to this problem — a platform that provides:

  • over 30 certified courses for agribusiness,
  • free access,
  • new materials from leading Ukrainian and international experts and companies,
  • flexible online learning,
  • official certificates after passing tests.

You can register and take courses here: https://agriacademy.org/courses-catalog/

The training programs cover areas such as crop production, berry growing, horticulture, agronomy, irrigation, animal husbandry, crop processing, organic production, and sustainable development.

By the end of 2026, AgriAcademy plans to launch 20 new courses that meet current market demands.

“Grow with us — with AgriAcademy!”

This message, present at the exhibition, became a key reminder that the future of agribusiness is impossible without continuous learning.

The labor shortage, which is getting worse every year, requires investment not only in technology but also in people. Companies that work with modern knowledge are more efficient, productive, and competitive.

AgriAcademy responds to staffing challenge: new course on animal welfare and rational use of antibiotics

In the context of the war, Ukrainian dairy farms are facing an acute shortage of staff. Forced migration, mobilization of workers, and reduced opportunities for professional training have created serious challenges for the development of the industry.

This was stated during the XVII International Dairy Congress by Valery Lototsky, associate professor of the Department of Animal Reproductology at Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, head and co-founder of the AVM Advisory Center and Veterinary Service Centers, and AgriAcademy expert.

The International Dairy Congress, organized by the Association of Milk Producers (AMP), is the most powerful event of the year in the dairy industry. This year, it brought together hundreds of leading industry representatives: producers, scientists, and businesspeople to exchange experiences and the latest achievements in the dairy business.

“Today, dairy farm managers are forced not only to maintain production, but also to invest in knowledge to compensate for staff shortages and adapt their work to European requirements for animal welfare and product safety,” the expert emphasized.

That is why, in November 2025, the educational platform AgriAcademy will launch a new certified online course, “Best Practices for Cattle Welfare and Responsible Use of Antibiotics to Prevent the Development of Antibiotic Resistance.”

Three key risk periods and how to control them

The author of the course, Valery Lototsky, notes that the training will help farm workers understand where mistakes are most often made when using antimicrobial drugs and how to avoid them.

The course covers three critical stages in cattle breeding:

  • The transition period for cows – 21 days before and after calving: preparation for calving, prevention of postpartum diseases;
  • Rearing young stock – from birth to 8 months, with a particularly sensitive period up to two months of age;
  • Lactation period – prevention and treatment of mastitis.

“During the third module, participants will learn to identify critical points for the onset of mastitis, follow the milking protocol, select the right antibiotics, and develop their own treatment and prevention plan,” said Valery Lototsky.
