UKRAINE HAS SOWN 93% OF PLANNED AREA WITH AGRICULTURAL CROPS

During the sowing campaign-2022, Ukraine sowed 13.4 million hectares of land with the main agricultural crops, which is 93% of the 14.4 million hectares planned for the current season, including 0.22 sown during the week (June 3-9) million hectares, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food announced on Friday.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy clarified that the area sown this season has already amounted to 81.7% of the indicators of last year, in which 16.92 million hectares were sown.
The ministry stressed that harvesting of winter crops will begin in some regions from next week. They were sown in 2021 on a total area of 7.7 million hectares, including 6.5 million hectares under winter wheat, 1 million hectares under barley, and 0.16 million hectares under rye.
As reported, due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine this season, a reduction in the acreage of high-margin crops (sunflower and corn) is expected while increasing the acreage of crops that are easier to produce, but important in terms of food security – peas, barley and oats.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced on April 20 that Ukraine will sow approximately 14.2 million hectares of agricultural land this season, which is 80% of last year’s figure of 16.9 million hectares.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy estimated the sown area under spring crops in 2022 at 13.44 million hectares compared to 16.92 million hectares in 2021.
Rostislav Shurma, Deputy Head of the President’s Office, called the goal of Ukraine in 2022 to harvest at least 70% of last year’s volumes.

In addition, the sown area under potatoes is 1.07 million hectares (90% of 1.19 million hectares), soybeans – 728,600 ha (78.6% of 1.25 million ha), sugar beet – 182,000 ha (88% of 206,900 ha), spring rapeseed – 28,400 ha (95.3% of 29,800 ha), millet – 32,100 ha (51.5% from 62,300 ha), buckwheat – 37,400 ha (46% of 81,600 ha).
“The sowing season in Ukraine continues. As a result, almost 98% of the areas projected for spring wheat have already been sown,” the Ministry of Agrarian Policy said in a statement.

During the sowing season-2022, Ukraine sowed 3.02 million hectares of land with the main agricultural crops, which is 20.1% of the 14.4 million hectares planned for the current season, the data on which were adjusted upward by 7.1% the day before (from 13.44 million hectares previously announced), the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said on Friday.
According to data published on its website, over the past week from April 15 to April 21, the area under crops increased by 56%, from 1.94 million hectares to 3.02 million hectares.
It is clarified that by now the total area sown with spring barley is 802.2 thousand hectares (+59 thousand hectares per week), sunflower – 896 thousand hectares (+462.3 thousand hectares), spring wheat – 164.4 thousand hectares (+18 thousand hectares), peas – 107.2 thousand hectares (+6.7 thousand hectares), oats – 127 thousand hectares (+15.4 thousand hectares).

UKRAINE BEGINS HARVESTING LATE AGRICULTURAL CROPS

Ukraine continues to harvest grain and leguminous crops, as of September 9, the total harvest of grain and leguminous crops amounted to 45 million tonnes from a total area of 10.3 million hectares, farmers have also begun harvesting sunflower, sugar beet and soybeans, the Ministry of Agrarian policy and Food said on its website on Friday.
According to the ministry, 32.9 million tonnes of wheat were threshed, 10.94 million tonnes of barley, 2.8 million tonnes of rapeseed, and 0.57 million tonnes of peas. The highest average yield of wheat and rape is in Khmelnytsky (6.52 tonnes per ha and 3.5 tonnes per ha, respectively), barley – in Kyiv region (5.72 tonnes per ha), peas – in Volyn region (4 tonnes per ha).
The leaders in the threshing of grain and leguminous crops were Odesa region with an indicator of more than 4.12 million tonnes, as well as Kharkiv (3.55 million tonnes), Dnipropetrovsk (3.38 million tonnes), Mykolaiv (3.25 million tonnes), Zaporizhia (3.23 million tonnes), and Kherson (3.11 million) regions.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also announced the completion of the harvesting of rapeseed: in total, 2.8 million tonnes of seeds were harvested from an area of 1 million hectares. Its average yield was 2.79 tonnes per ha.
Farmers from 13 regions harvested 715,400 tonnes of sunflower from 344,000 hectares (5% of the planned area) with an average yield of 2.08 tonnes per ha.
Agrarians from 15 regions threshed 34,300 tonnes of buckwheat from 27,940 hectares (one third of the planned area), and agricultural producers from 11 regions harvested 88,680 tonnes of millet from 39,840 hectares (51%).
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, sugar beet harvesting has started in Vinnytsia, Rivne and Cherkasy regions. A total of 148,000 tonnes were harvested from 3,300 hectares (1% of the planned area).

UKRAINE SOWS 91% OF FORECASTED WINTER CROPS

As of November 2, Ukrainian agricultural producers sowed the main winter crops on an area of 7.5 million hectares (91% of the forecast of 8.2 million hectares), 371,000 hectares were sown in a week.
According to a report on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture on Tuesday, the following crops were sown: wheat – 5.65 million hectares (92% of the forecast), barley – 867,000 hectares (92%), rye – 118,800 hectares (89%), rapeseed – 862,600 hectares (85%).
According to the State Statistics Service, the sown area of winter crops for the harvest in 2020 amounted to 8.9 million hectares, which is 0.2% more than the area for the harvest in 2019.
Winter wheat was sown on 6.4 million hectares (0.6% less than in 2019), winter barley – 1 million hectares (+ 3.9%), rye – 135,000 hectares (+ 16.7%) and rapeseed – 1.3 million hectares (+ 0.3%).
