The number of structural units of Ukrainian banks in the third quarter of 2023 decreased by another 55 to 5,098 due to the closure of branches of the liquidated Concordbank and Ukrbudinvestbank, according to information published on the NBU website.
According to the information, the second largest state-owned Oschadbank by assets in the third quarter reduced the number of branches by one to 1182, retaining its first place among all banks in the country by this indicator.
PrivatBank, the largest bank by assets, kept the number of branches at the same level in July-September – 1131.
Raiffeisen Bank rounds out the top three, adding five branches to its 324 operating branches, becoming the leader in terms of branch growth in the third quarter of this year, while at the beginning of the year its network shrank by 27 branches to 323.
The fourth-ranked Ukrsibbank significantly reduced its network in July-September, from 230 to 222, and now FUIB, which closes the top five and whose network remained the same in the reporting period, is only one point behind it.
Two other banks have more than 200 branches: Ukrgasbank (218, minus one for the quarter) and A-Bank (202, no changes).
Sense Bank, which was nationalized in July, reduced its network by two branches to 138, making it one of the top ten banks with the largest networks in the market, followed by Accordbank (147) and Credit Agricole Bank (141).
OTP Bank (down to 71), Metabank (down to 25) and Piraeus Bank (down to 13) each had one less branch.
At the same time, RadaBank opened three branches in July-September and increased its network to 28 outlets, while Asvio Bank opened two outlets and its network reached 30 branches across the country.
TAScombank, Cominbank, MTB Bank, RBC Bank and Unex Bank each opened one outlet in the third quarter, expanding their networks to 94, 54, 43, 21 and 19 outlets, respectively.
In general, the rate of decline in the number of bank branches in the third quarter of this year accelerated to 1.1% from 0.8%, which is, however, lower than the 2.7% in the first quarter, as in the fourth quarter of last year it was 3.3%, in the third quarter – 7.9% and in the second quarter – 8.1%.
In February of this year, the National Bank proposed to the Ministry of Finance, as the owner of state-owned banks, to impose a moratorium on the reduction of their branch network during the war.
According to the updated data, since the beginning of 2022, the number of branches has decreased by 420 at Oschadbank, 366 at PrivatBank, 50 at Ukrgasbank, and 5 at Ukreximbank, to 48.
As of the beginning of October 2023, state-owned banks accounted for 53.3% of all bank branches in Ukraine.
As reported, the number of structural units of Ukrainian banks in 2022 decreased by 20.2%, or by 1349 branches, to 5,336 thousand.
Nova Post Polska will open 10 branches in Poland by the end of March, raising the total number of branches in the country to 30, Nova Post Polska CEO Dmitry Vergun told Interfax-Ukraine.
“By the end of March we plan to open 10 more new ones. In particular, in Olsztyn, Radom, Kielce, Opole, Częstchowa, Bielsko-Biala. The offices in Jelenia Góra and Białystok will open already on March 27. All 16 voivodeships will be covered in June,” said Vergun.
According to him, all branches will accept shipments of up to 100 kilograms.
“According to plans, there will be 50 outlets in Poland by the end of June, and we may reach even more by the end of the year,” the CEO of Nova Post Polska said. Specifically, he said, there will be about 10 branches in Warsaw in the medium term and 15 by the end of the year.
Currently, there are six branches in Warsaw. Since October 3, the company has launched 20 branches (also in Krakow, Gdańsk, Poznań, Łódź, Lublin, Riaśwa and Katowice) and received an official document granting it the official status of postal operator in Poland.
From October 3 to March 1 Nova Post Polska dispatched over 150 thousand packages. The company’s services during this period were used by 132,000 customers, including 8.5 per cent of Polish citizens.
The Nova Poshta group of companies has opened two more branches in Poland – in the cities of Gdansk and Wroclaw, the company’s press service reported on Monday.
“In particular, the new branches of Nova Post are located… in Gdansk and Wroclaw,” Nova Poshta said.
According to the press release, a total of 10 Nova Poshta branches have already been opened in Poland: in Warsaw, Krakow, Rzeszow, Poznan, Gdansk and Wroclaw, each of which employs Ukrainians who can serve both in Ukrainian and in Polish.
By the end of the year, Nova Poshta plans to open seven more post offices in Poland.
In Nova Poshta offices, packing services are available, sending to Ukraine and receiving parcels from Ukraine up to 30 kg, delivery time is from five days.
Only the sender can pay for the parcel in cash, by card or via contactless payment (ApplePay or GooglePay) at the branch.
The Nova Poshta Group of Companies includes, in particular, the companies Nova Poshta, NP Logistic, NovaPay and Nova Poshta Global.
The network has about 10,000 branches throughout Ukraine. The number of deliveries in 2021 exceeded 372 million.
Ukrainian banks in 2021 reduced the number of structural units by 6.3%, or by 449 branches, to 6,685.
According to data on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), in 2021 Oschadbank closed 235 branches (reducing their number to 1,602), PrivatBank – 220 (to 1,497), UkrSibbank – 21 (to 251), Alfa Bank – 17 (to 201), Pivdenny Bank – 10 (to 87), Ukreximbank – 9 (to 53), Ukrgasbank – 8 (268), PIB – 7 (19), Sberbank – 5 (85), Raiffeisen Bank Aval – 4 (to 392).
At the same time, in 2020 banks opened 84 branches, including Accordbank – 28 branches, expanding its regional network to 107 branches, FUIB – 24 (up to 248), Crystalbank – 12 (up to 36), A-Bank – 7 (up to 239), Alliance Bank, CIB and Ukrbudinvestbank – 5 each (up to 30, 43 and 53, respectively).
According to the data of the National Bank, as of January 1, 2022 Oschadbank remains the leader in terms of the number of branches (1,602), the second place is occupied by PrivatBank (1,497), the third is Raiffeisen Bank Aval (392), the fourth is Ukrgasbank (268) and the fifth – UkrSibbank (251).
As in the first half of the year, Prominvestbank (PIB), Albank, Credit Europe and Familny banks, BTA Bank, ING Bank Ukraine, Citibank, Trust-Capital Bank, the Ukrainian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (UBRD), CreditWest Bank, Deutsche Bank DBU, SEB Corporate Bank, Alpari Bank, Avangard Bank and Portal Bank, according to the regulator’s data, operate with one open branch.
Ukrainian banks in 2020 reduced the number of structural divisions by 10.8%, or by 868 branches, to 7,134.
According to the data posted on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), by the end of 2020 Oschadbank closed the operation of 490 branches (having reduced their number to 1,837), PrivatBank – 211 (to 1,717), Raiffeisen Bank Aval – 100 (to 396), Alfa-Bank – 39 (to 218), TAScombank and Sberbank – 16 each (to 87 and 90 respectively), UkrSibbank – 12 (to 272), Credit Dnipro Bank and PIB – eight (to 28 and 26, respectively) and Ukrbudinvestbank – seven (to 48).
It is indicated that in October-December 2020, banks closed 195 structural divisions, in particular Oschadbank – 94, Raiffeisen Bank Aval – 60, PrivatBank – 33.
At the same time, banks opened 79 branches in 2020, in particular state-owned Ukrgasbank – 26 divisions, expanding its regional network to 276 branches, Accordbank – eight (to 79), Bank Sich – six (to 60), FUIB – 16 (to 224), A-Bank – seven (to 232), and Bank Alliance – five (to 25).
According to the National Bank, as of January 1, 2021, Oschadbank remains the leader in the number of branches (1,837), PrivatBank ranks second (1,717), Raiffeisen Bank Aval is third (396), Ukrgasbank is fourth (276), and UkrSibbank ranks fifth (272).
Ukrainian banks in July-September 2020 closed 251 structural divisions, as of October 1 their regional network consisted of 7,329 branches.
According to data posted on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), in the third quarter, Oschadbank ceased the operation of 166 branches (reducing their number to 1,931), PrivatBank some 83 (to 1,750), TAScombank 11 (to 87), Kredobank five (to 83).
In addition, Ukrbudinvestbank (to 47) and UkrSibbank (to 278) closed four branches in the last quarter, the regulator noted.
It is also indicated that in July-September this year, state-owned Ukrgasbank opened 21 offices, expanding its regional network to 269 branches, A-Bank opened five branches (to 235) and Megabank (to 153) and IBOX Bank (to 42) opened three branches each.
According to the National Bank, as of October 1 Oschadbank remains the leader in terms of the number of branches (1,931), PrivatBank ranks second (to 1,750), Raiffeisen Bank Aval ranks third (456), UkrSibbank is in the fourth place (278) and Ukrgasbank is fifth (269).
