Investment company BGV Group Management in 2024 plans to begin construction of a plant to produce graphite concentrate and spherical granite on the basis of Balakhovskoye deposit (Kirovograd region).
“BGV’s team is currently performing the second stage of pilot tests of the processing plant and completing the design of the production complex and graphite pilot tests on the Balakhovskoye project. Next year, the company plans to start building one of the largest production complexes in Europe,” BGV Group Management said in a press release.
According to its data, the facility’s potential capacity will be 50,000 tons of graphite concentrate per year and 19,000 tons of spherical graphite for lithium-ion batteries. The company expects that such volume will be able to cover a significant part of the European Union market demand.
BGV is also working on a pre-feasibility study for the Perzhansky complex beryllium deposit (Zhytomyr region) and expects to present the results to investors soon. According to its data, the deposit has reserves of 2.34 million tons of ore. In addition, it also has reserves of zinc, rare earth elements and other materials.
Investments in extraction and further processing of raw materials are one of the main focuses of the company, BGV Group Management board member Sergii Voytsekhovskii said during the presentation of projects at Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023 in London. According to him, the investments of the group and its founder Gennady Butkevich in the Ukrainian mining projects amounted to over $100 mln in eight years.

Ukraine in January-March this year, Ukraine reduced imports of aluminum ores and concentrate (bauxite) in physical terms by 99.98% compared to the same period last year – up to 202 tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), during this period, imports of bauxite in monetary terms decreased by 99.6% – to $164 thousand.
At the same time, imports were mainly from Guinea (100% of supplies in money terms).
Ukraine did not re-export bauxite in 1Q2023, like in 1Q2022.
As reported, Ukraine in 2022 decreased the import of aluminum ore and concentrate (bauxite) in volume terms by 81.5% compared to the previous year – up to 945.396 tons. Bauxite imports in monetary terms decreased by 79.6% to $48.166 million. Imports were mainly from Guinea (58.90% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (27.19%) and Ghana (7.48%).

Ukraine in 2022 decreased export of titanium ores and concentrates in physical terms by 41.8% compared to the previous year – down to 322.143 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), exports of titanium ores and concentrates decreased by 19.6% in monetary terms – to $130.144 million.
At the same time, the main exports were shipped to the Czech Republic (47.91% in monetary terms), USA (11.94%) and Romania (9.75%).
Ukraine in 2022 imported 196 tons of similar products from Senegal (70.41%) and Turkey (29.59%) for $ 115 thousand (in October-December 2022, imports were not carried out), while in 2021 it imported 1.172 tons for $1.227 million.
As previously reported, Ukraine in 2021 increased the export of titanium ores and concentrates in volume terms by 3% compared with 2020 – up to 553.051 thousand tons, in monetary terms the export of titanium ores and concentrates increased by 17% – to $161.914 million. At that, the main exports were shipped to Mexico (21.23% in monetary terms), China (18.17%) and Czech Republic (14.07%).
Ukraine imported 1.172 thousand tons of titanium ores for $1.227 million from Senegal (87.03%) and Germany (12.97%) in 2021, while in 2020 it imported 1.010 tons for $ 855 thousand.
Ukraine currently produces titaniferous ores mainly at United Mining and Chemical Company PJSC (UMCP), that manages Volnogorsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (VGMK, Dnepropetrovsk region) and Irshansk Mining and Processing Combine (IGOK, Zhitomir region), as well as at Mezhdurechensk Mining and Processing LLC and Valki-Ilmenite LLC (both Irshansk, Zhitomir region).
In addition, the production and commercial firm VELTA (Dnipro) has built a mine at the Birzulovskoe deposit with a capacity of 240 thousand tons of ilmenite concentrate per year.

In Ukraine, at present, titanium-bearing ores are mined mainly in the PJSC “United Mining and Chemical Company” (OGCC), under whose management the Volnogorsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (VGMK, Dnepropetrovsk region) and the Irshansky mining and processing plant (IGOK, Zhytomyr region) were transferred .), as well as LLC “Mezhdurechensky GOK” and LLC “Valki-Ilmenit” (both LLC – Irshansk, Zhytomyr region).
In addition, the production and commercial company “Velta” (Dnepr) built a mining and concentration complex at the Birzulovsky deposit with a capacity of 240,000 tons of ilmenite concentrate per year.
