Electricity consumption in Ukraine, taking into account in-process losses in power grids, decreased 2.6% in 2020 compared to 2019, to 146.394 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy has told Interfax-Ukraine.
Excluding in-process losses electricity consumption in 2020 fell by 2.1%, to 117.656 billion kWh.
The country’s industry, excluding in-process losses, reduced electricity consumption by 3.8%, to 49.196 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgical industry consumed 27.105 billion kWh (5.5% less compared to 2019), fuel industry some 3.225 billion kWh (5% less), machine building industry some 3.126 billion kWh (14.7% less), chemical and petrochemical some 4.144 billion (10.6% more), food and processing some 4.34 billion kWh (3.3% less), construction some 2.332 billion kWh (3% more), others some 4.924 billion kWh (0.5% more).
In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 3.814 billion kWh (2.8% more), transport some 5.719 billion kWh (13.4% less), developers some 949.8 million kWh (1.8% less).
In 2020 the country’s population consumed 36.436 billion kWh (3.4% more), households some 14.179 billion kWh (5.9% less) and other non-industrial consumers some 7.363 billion kWh (1.6% less).
The share of industry in total electricity consumption in 2020 fell from 42.6% to 41.8%, while the share of the population grew to 31% from 29.3%.
In December 2020, electricity consumption, taking into account in-process losses, decreased 7.3% compared to 2019, to 15.043 billion kWh, and excluding in-process losses it fell by 4.9%, to 11.435 billion kWh.

Ukraine in January-September 2020 increased gross natural gas consumption by 3.7% (by 710 million cubic meters) compared to the same period in 2019, to 20.01 billion cubic meters, according to the data of the quarterly monitoring of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC).
According to the calculations of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, in the third quarter of this year, consumption increased by 13.6% (by 520 million cubic meters) compared to July-September 2019, to 4.35 billion cubic meters.
The use of natural gas by household consumers for the nine months of 2020 amounted to 5.31 billion cubic meters, which is 6% less than in the same period last year.
Thus, the share of household consumers in the overall structure of gross consumption for the nine months of 2020 amounted to 26.5% against 29.3% in January-September 2019.
As reported with reference to the NEURC data, Ukraine in 2019 reduced gross natural gas consumption by 6% compared to 2018, to 28.29 billion cubic meters. Consumption of natural gas by household consumers in 2019 decreased by 21.6% compared to 2018, to 8.33 billion cubic meters.
Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-November 2020, taking into account in-process losses, decreased by 3.6% (by 4.917 billion kWh) compared to the same period in 2019, to 131.305 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy has told Interfax-Ukraine.
Excluding in-process losses, electricity consumption over 11 months decreased by 3.2% (by 3.456 billion kWh), to 105.864 billion kWh.
The country’s industry, excluding in-process losses, reduced electricity consumption by 4.6%, to 44.768 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgical industry consumed 24.767 billion kWh (6.4% less compared to January-November 2019), fuel industry 2.791 billion kWh (5.6% less), machine building industry – 2.791 billion kWh (16.5% less), chemical and petrochemical – 3.953 billion kWh (11.7% more), food and processing – 3.953 billion kWh (3.7% down), construction materials – 2.116 billion kWh (1.9% more), others – 4.422 billion kWh (4.1% more).
In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 3.411 billion kWh (0.2% more), transport – 5.103 billion kWh (14.5% less), construction – 831.2 million kWh (4% less).
The population of the country consumed 32.583 billion kWh (2.4% more), household consumers – 12.719 billion kWh (6.7% less), other non-industrial consumers – 6.449 billion kWh (down by 3.9%).
According to the results of 11 months, the share of industry in the total volume of electricity consumption decreased from 42.9% to 42.3%, while the share of the population increased from 29.1% to 30.8%.

Excluding in-process losses, electricity consumption in the first 10 months decreased 3.2%, to 95.88 billion kWh.
The country’s industry, excluding technological losses, reduced electricity consumption by 5%, to 40.614 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgical industry consumed 22.527 billion kWh (7.4% less compared to January-October 2019), fuel industry some 2.654 billion kWh (5.8% less), machine building industry some 2.504 billion kWh (17.1% less), chemical and petrochemical some 3.482 billion (14.4% more), food and processing some 3.553 billion kWh (4.2% less), construction some 1.9 billion kWh (1.1% more), others some 3.553 billion kWh (0.5% more).
In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 3.116 billion kWh (0.6% more), transport some 4.595 billion kWh (14.8% less), developers some 745.2 million kWh (4.5% less).
In January-October 2020 the country’s population consumed 29.498 billion kWh (2.8% more), households some 11.454 billion kWh (6.9% less) and other non-industrial consumers some 5.858 billion kWh (3.8% less).
The share of industry in total electricity consumption in the first 10 months fell from 43.2% to 42.4%, while the share of the population grew to 30.8% from 29%.
In October 2020, electricity consumption, taking into account in-process losses, decreased 4.6% compared to the same month of 2019, to 11.79 billion kWh, excluding in-process losses it fell by 0.8%, to 9.641 billion kWh.
Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine reduced the consumption of natural gas by 1% in January-September this year compared to the same period last year, which accounted for 1.39 billion cubic meters.
According to the information from the Ukrmetalurgprom association, electricity consumption by metallurgical enterprises amounted to about 8.22 billion kWh for this period (95% compared to January-September in 2019).
As reported, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises reduced consumption of natural gas by 2% in 2019 compared to 2018, which accounted for 1.8 billion cubic meters. Electricity consumption by metallurgical enterprises amounted to about 11.2 billion kWh in 2019 (95% compared to 2018).
In 2018, metallurgical enterprises, including those in the temporarily uncontrolled territory reduced consumption of natural gas by 4% compared to 2017, but increased it by 4% without the uncontrolled territory, which accounted for 1.840 billion cubic meters. Electricity consumption by metallurgical enterprises amounted to 11.76 billion kWh in 2018 (102% of the consumption in 2017 with uncontrolled territory, and 106% without it).
