Ukraine is actively adding beds with oxygen for patients with COVID-19, it can allocate up to 15,000 more beds, head of the Center for Health Economics of the Kyiv School of Economics Yuriy Hanychenko said at a weekly online briefing.
“Ukraine has not yet allocated all the beds. If we compare with the spring wave, then Ukraine is able to allocate another quarter of the beds to those that have already been allocated, this is about 15,000 beds,” Hanychenko said.
He said that in general, the situation with the load on the healthcare system is not critical at the moment, however, in some regions of Ukraine, the occupation of beds with oxygen has reached a critical level.
“We are not talking about the maximum load on the entire health care system, but, as we know, in some regions the situation in terms of the percentage of bed occupancy is nearly critical,” Hanychenko said.
Currently, more than 14 million doses of vaccines for vaccination about COVID-19 are available in Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin said. “For the moment, more than 14 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine are available in all regions of Ukraine, and everyone can choose one of three vaccines of different types. If one does not suit you, then there is always a choice. A person cannot have contraindications to all three types of vaccines,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.
Kuzin said that 97% of people who were hospitalized with COVID-19 were not vaccinated.
He reported that 7.9 million people were vaccinated with at least one dose, and 6.4 million people are fully vaccinated.
Almost 81% of teachers in Ukraine have already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet said.
“Today, 81% of school workers have already been vaccinated with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Over the past five days, the number of teachers vaccinated with the first dose in Lviv region has increased by 18%, by almost 14% in Dnipropetrovsk region,” Shkarlet wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to him, 67.9% of teachers passed the full vaccination cycle in Luhansk region, in Cherkasy region – 64%, in Poltava region – 62.8%, in the city of Kyiv – 62.6%, in Sumy region – 59.7%. At the same time, the minister says that Kherson, Rivne and Odesa regions have not yet demonstrated tangible progress in vaccination rates.
Over the past day, 132,246 people were immunized, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on Telegram.
“A total of 132,246 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 over the past day on September 28, 2021. One dose was received by 75,188 people, 57,058 people were fully immunized,” the message said on Wednesday morning.
It is noted that 897 mobile teams, 3,063 vaccination points, 345 vaccination centers worked during the day.
The Ministry of Health reported that 6,926,719 people have been vaccinated since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, of which 6,926,717 received one dose, and 5,565,270 people received two doses (two of them received one dose abroad).
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has supplied innovative drugs for COVID-19 to the regions, in particular 20,000 bottles of Bamlanivimab and 40,000 bottles of Etesevimab, the Ministry said with reference to Deputy Health Minister for European Integration Oleksandr Komarida.
“In June, the working group made a decision on the readiness to include in the treatment protocol [for patients with COVID-19] the drugs Bamlanivimab and Etesevimab, if available in Ukraine. Today, the drugs are already in the regions, and accordingly the updated protocol will regulate their use,” said Komarida.
The drugs were delivered to Ukraine on September 4 with the assistance of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States as a humanitarian aid provided by the American charitable organization Direct Relief.
According to Health Minister Viktor Liashko, the latest agreements on receiving this assistance were agreed upon during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the United States.
The ministry notes that the mechanism of action of the drugs is to block the attachment of the virus to the cell membrane, which makes it impossible for SARS-CoV-2 to enter human cells, neutralizes the effect of the virus and helps prevent the development and treatment of COVID-19.
Ukraine has registered 2,265 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 565 recoveries and 44 deaths in the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Health Ministry’s press service said.
“Ukraine recorded 2,265 new cases of COVID-19 (including 275 children and 22 medical workers) over the past day, September 20, 2021. In the past 24 hours, 1,255 persons were hospitalized, 44 died, and 565 recovered,” the ministry said on Telegram.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Ukraine has seen a total of 2,350,646 coronavirus infections, including 2,231,417 recoveries and 54,919 deaths.
