Ukraine in January-August 2020 increased import of crude oil (according to foreign trade activity code 2709) 1.9 times (by 419,371 tonnes) compared to the same period in 2019, to 901,526 tonnes.
According to the State Fiscal Service, in January-August, crude oil was imported for $293.75 million, which is 17.7% more than in the same period a year earlier ($249.578 million).
Some crude oil for $199.827 million came from Azerbaijan (the share is 68.03%), the United States for $48.338 million (16.46%) and Libya for $45.555 million (15.51%) and other countries for $0.03 million (0.01%).
In January-August 2019 and January-August 2020, Ukraine did not export oil.
The actual selling price of crude oil and gas condensate used in determining royalty for subsoil use in August 2020 amounted to UAH 8,887 per tonne, which is 0.5% more than in July.
The relevant data are published on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine.
In January 2020, the actual selling price of oil and gas condensate amounted to UAH 11,114 per tonne, in February UAH 9,648 per tonne, in March UAH 5,913 per tonne, in April UAH 3,960 per tonne, in May UAH 6,199 per tonne, in June some UAH 8,115 per tonne and in July it was UAH 8,847 per tonne.
JSC Ukrtransnafta, having checked the quality of U.S. crude oil (the Bakken formation), which was delivered by a tanker late last week, has started pumping it into the pipeline towards Ukraine’s Kremenchuk oil refinery.
“After the compliance of the crude oil was confirmed, Ukrtransnafta began pumping oil for its further transportation through the Odesa-Kremenchuk oil pipeline to the Kremenchuk refinery,” Ukrtransnafta said on Facebook on July 13.
As reported, the first batch of crude oil from the United States arrived in Odesa on July 6. It was delivered by the Wisdom Venture tanker.

Ukraine reduced imports of crude oil (HS Code: 2709) by 29.1%, or 110,767 tonnes, in January-May 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, to 269,429 tonnes.
Crude oil imports were estimated at $138.115 million, which was 32.8% less than in January-May 2018 ($205.489 million), Ukraine’s State Fiscal Service said.
Crude oil from Azerbaijan was imported to the tune of $135.679 million (the share of total imports was 98.24%), shipments from Latvia totaled $2.321 million (1.68%), and those from Hungary stood at $82,000 (0.06%), and other countries – $33,000 (0.02%).
Ukraine did not export crude oil in January-May this year.

Transit shipments of crude oil by pipelines through the territory of Ukraine to European countries in January-August 2018 decreased by 4.5%, or 409,500 tonnes, compared to the same period in 2017, to 8.692 million tonnes, PJSC Ukrtransnafta has said. The volume of oil pumping to the country’s oil refineries in January-August 2018 increased by 5.5%, 71,900 tonnes, 1.386 million tonnes, according to estimates of Interfax-Ukraine. Thus, the share of transit shipments in the total volume of oil transportation (10.077 million tonnes) in the eight months of 2018 was 86.2%, the share of pumping to the country’s oil refineries was 13.8%.
In August 2018, transit shipments of crude oil by pipelines through Ukraine decreased by 10.4% (125,000 tonnes) from August 2017, 1.08 million tonnes, pumping to the country’s refineries fell by 0.6% (1,100 tonnes), to 184,700 tonnes.
As reported, transit of oil through Ukraine to European countries in 2017 increased by 0.8% (by 114,900 tonnes) compared to the same period in 2016, to 13.937 million tonnes. The volume of oil transportation to the refineries of Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 2.097 million tonnes, which is 1.5-fold (690,600 tonnes) more than last year.
The growth of supplies inside the country is connected with the resumption of work of the Odesa-Kremenchuk section from March 10, 2017, which supplies Azeri Light oil to PJSC Ukrtatnafta. As reported, Ukrtransnafta, 100% managed by NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, is the operator of the country’s oil transportation system.
Ukrtransnafta’s trunk oil pipeline system, which includes pipes from 159 mm to 1,220 mm in diameters, stretches 4,767 kilometers and through 19 Ukrainian regions. It has annual capacity to accept 114 million tonnes for shipment and to supply 56.3 million tonnes to Europe.
Ukraine increased imports of crude oil (foreign trade code 2709) by 36.8% or 102,260 tonnes in January-May 2018 year-over-year, to 380,196 tonnes.
The State Fiscal Service reported that oil for $205.489 million was imported, which is 66.8% more than in January-May 2017 ($123.194 million).
Ukraine in January-May 2018 imported crude oil for $194.853 million from Azerbaijan, $7.176 million from Algeria, $1.844 million from Iran and $1.616 million from other countries.
The country did not export crude oil in January-May.
