According to Fixygen, the People’s Bank of China (PBC) has added eight banks to the list of institutions authorized to conduct transactions with the digital yuan, bringing the total to 30.
The list includes Ping An Bank, Hengfeng Bank, China Bohai Bank, Bank of Shanghai, Bank of Hangzhou, Huishang Bank, Bank of Changsha, and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Bank.
This move is aimed at increasing the accessibility of digital yuan services and meeting public demand for secure, convenient, and efficient digital yuan services, according to a statement from the PBC.
The new operators will be connected to the central bank’s digital yuan system and will begin providing services after completing operational and technical preparations, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The PBOC stated that it will continue to expand the number of operators to create an open, inclusive, and fair competitive environment for the development of the digital yuan.
